a bad day started over again....cheered up by a cheap vase that is gonna make a nice lamp someday. a cosmic cookie!
We were enjoying an outdoor meal cooked over a wood fire along the frozen shore of where Trout Creek merges with the Clark Fork deep into the blue hour on February 10, 2024. From our location you could easily see the BNSF’s MRL Sub main over Bridge 55, but with nightfall setting in, it was getting more difficult. Through the stillness of dusk, we could hear a rumble growing in intensity, and it sounded like a westbound was bearing down on our location.
Funny thing too about this spot though. Apparently the mountains are arranged just right to bounce sound off them with amazing redirection. It can’t be a westbound we kept saying— since we aren’t hearing horns at the two grade crossings through Trout Creek to the east. Almost without warning, the crossing bells protecting Marten Creek Road just the other side of the icy inlet start ringing as an eastbound coal train, horns blaring, rumbles across Bridge 55. The fire and food can wait a moment as I try, almost in vain, to capture the scene with a camera in the gathering darkness.

Dicyrtomina ornata is a springtail species from the Dicyrtomidae family. The scientific name of the species was first validly published in 1842 by Nicolet
It is very similar to Dicyrtomina saundersi but differs from this in that the beams on the fifth abdomen segment merge into a spot. Because the mark on the back is variable, it is difficult to distinguish this species with certainty from photo.
This stone buddha has sat in my garden for a long time. Now he looks as though he is merging with the elements, becoming time itself.

It took me 8 months to learn enough Photoshop to process these photos shot directly into the sun from the Galata Tower in Istanbul.
Comprised of two sets of 3 bracketed exposures HDR blended and merged into a panorama in Lightroom. Preliminary post processing in Lightroom, then exposure blended in Photoshop along with rays of light and dodging.
Thank you very much for your kind comments and faves.
The main river of the Altai Mountains - Katun, shrouded in legends and love, merges with the Chuya mountain River
I tried to get everything in focus here and shot at f10. I merged 3 shots to get focus from near to far. One thing I learned from this exercise is that the framing changes when focusing from near to far with this lens. I assume this is why cine lenses exist for pulling focus within a frame.
