Notice the peculiar way the ship in the background left has extra wood tied to the quarters at the after end of the vessel.

The newly restored "Merchant Navy" class engine no 35018 "British India Line" makes its maiden ascent of Shap with the Cumbrian Mountain Express on May 12th 2018. It did not disappoint!

Merchant Navy class pacific 35018,"British India Line" ,speeds effortlessly past Waitby some 19 minutes early with the southbound Cumbrian Mountain Express of 12 May 2018. Merchant navy memorial. This statue was unveiled by Countess Mountbatten of Burma on 19th September 1990. In memory of the thousands of merchant seamen who sailed from this port and lost their lives in WWII. Unrecognised, you put us in your debt; Unthanked, you enter or escape, the grave; Whether your land remember or forget you saved the land, or died to try to save. John Masefield.
Bulleid 'Merchant Navy' 35028 'Clan LIne' was back on home turf on 6 November 2021 when it headed a Pullman circular working via from Victoria via Petersfield and Basingstoke, and back to Victoria. The train had been re-routed down the 'Portsmouth Direct' route follwing the Salisbury collision. The train ran on the SWML down fast line from Surbiton to Woking, and is seen here thundering through Weybridge.
Rebuilt Bulleid Pacifics look rather good from a rear three-quarter angle I think - such a scene at London's Victoria station at around 10.00pm on Wednesday 16th May 2018 revived early childhood memories of spotless rebuilt (and only just!) 'Merchant Navy', 'West Country' and 'Battle of Britain' classes 'on the blocks' at Waterloo, a station that I frequently passed through with my parents in the late-1950s and early 1960s. This day trip from North Yorkshire to London was certainly worthwhile, if only to experience this arrival, but I also had the pleasure of the departure earlier that day. 35028 'Clan Line' with the Belmond 'British Pullman' from Bath, helping me to relive those memories of almost six decades ago!

Merchant Navy No.35028 ‘Clanline’ is found on familiar territory with today’s Surrey Hills Belmond Pullman train. She’s seen here working 1Y83 Chertsey - London Victoria.
Being brought up in the area, I decided to go to 'Townshill' in Kirkham to see Braunton getting back into her stride after picking up passengers at Kirkham and Wesham station.
Although the line remains pretty busy, it's certainly a far cry from my childhood days in the 1950/60's spent walking, fishing and playing football around here and spotting a seemingly endless procession of Jubs, Black Fives, Crabs, 8F's etc. and occasional 'foreign' engines from the Northeast and elsewhere, with a particular thrill being the regular 'Fish Train' Express, usually hauled by a Scot or similar, which you could smell approaching on the 'Fast' line.
However, I don't recall seeing any Bulleids back then and was a little dismayed when a 'local' wandered into my composition, but decided to 'live and let live', especially as I think he improved the scene!
