Just before the heavens open… SR Merchant Navy Class steam locomotive No. 35028 'Clan Line' arrives at Bristol Temple Meads with a Belmond Pullman rail tour from London Victoria on 19th May 2021.
Belmond British Pullman is a private luxury train that operates day and weekend journeys around Britain and also conveys passengers of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express between London and Folkestone, as part of their journey to Venice and other European cities.
Restored to their former glory, British Pullman's carriages are as famous today as in the heyday of train travel.

Bulleid Merchant Navy class pacific 35028 Clan Line coasts down the Brighton mainline, blower on and safety valves lifting, with its Railway Touring Company charter from London Victoria to Eastings and Hastings... no sun (for a futher 5 minutes at least) but it had brightened and stopped snowing at least. Always nice to see this loco that my father and grandfather helped purchase and worked on still going strong on the mainline.

Henry's Story
Henry Hunt was my Great uncle and he was a Merchant Sailor from Partick a suburb in Glasgow . Henry was a modest man didn't make a fuss he had done what had to be done and that was all . In reality Henry had survived being torpedoed 7 times during the second world war . On one occassion a telegram was delivered that Henry's ship had be sunk and he had been lost at sea , the family had been devastated at the news except his Mum my Great Granny Jessie she proclaimed if henry was deed i would know .
the family thought poor soul and she would come to accept it through time . Three weeks later my Granny Marjorie was on a bus and who did she see walking down the street in an American uniform Henry ! When his ship had been hit he was injured but had been rescued by an American ship and had been well looked after for three weeks by his hosts when everybody had been worried well except one Lady who just said i told you so.
Sadly in 1950 Henry was diagnosed with cancer but before he passed away the family contacted the authorities and he got his medals before he died

February 14th, 1912 …
Under their sunshades the ladies relax with good books and Christian thoughts …
It is Saint Valentine’s Day and after dinner there will be dancing on the deck. The ladies in their Paris-designed silk dresses; their cards already filled. The names on their cards represent noble gentlemen and, let’s be honest, the names of rogues with dashing dark eyes.
The ships sails on ...
… and the age of elegance is about to slip away …
… but, first, happy Saint Valentine’s Day …
Saturday 29th February, a leap year day and Merchant Navy No.35018 "British India Line" is heading south over the Settle Carlisle line at Greenlands between Langwathby and Culgaith. Another bitterly cold day with high winds and some occasional sunshine. The dark clouds in the distance are the beginnings of Storm Jorge rapidly closing in.

Credit must be included to 10F MPD with his photo here of 48151 and 35018 last year. I particularly like the assortment of buildings on the distant Dales brought in nicely with the telephoto lens. Mike's shot is far better and the sun really had moved round too far for me.

I thought this was a clagless wonder as the shutter fired, pleasantly surprised to see the fireman had just started firing when reviewing the results!

A rare combination indeed. 19 December 2009 at Gomshall, in the Surrey hills. A perfect day for a heavy steam train with the exhaust trail hanging in the freezing air as the train climbs the long 1 in 100 bank.

Shown coming alongside Blairmore Pier on a damp and misty summer afternoon. The famous and well-known Waverley was launched in 1946. She is still registered in the city in which she was built - Glasgow. She is the last ocean-going paddle steamer in the world.
Liberty Ships were designed in the US for mass production at the end of the war.
They were a wonderful idea.
An American president described them as the ugliest of ships.
Even American presidents can be in grave error. Ships are like women, they are all beautiful, it is merely that some are more beautiful than others. :)
