17 Photos coming up taken by my father on the 1st of August 1964 (which doesn't look like a Summers day!). I have tried to use his notebooks to get them in the correct order. this is the first taken at Exeter Central and the rest are taken at St James Park Halt.

I think the time of this one is between 11am and 12 noon and Merchant Navy 35029 Ellerman Line is shunting coaches within the station.

The loco was allocated to Nine Elms at this time, having been new in February 1949. It was withdrawn in September 1966 and what is left of the loco is now a static exhibit at the NRM

The Marella Discovery was built in France in 1995 and given her current name in 2017. She is owned and operated by Marella Cruises and is registered in Valletta, Malta.

SR 'Merchant Navy' Class Pacific No. 35018 'British India Line' with its TOPS number (98818) on the cabside and 35018 chalked on the smokebox door (but thankfully shorn of the 'Bodmin' nameplates) wheezes past Keerholme on the Carnforth/Hellifield/Preston/Carnforth loaded mainline test circuit on 6 July 2017.

Both pacifics worked up to the end on the Southern Region of British Railways, 35030 pulling the very last BR steam train into London Waterloo station in July 1967. The year before it had headed a steam special to Nottingham on the last day of through services on the Great Central Railway in September 1966 - 50 years ago.

The present-day Great Central Railway plans a mini-Gala over the weekend of 2nd-3rd September to commemorate the end.

Ex Southern Railways Merchant Navy class No. 35028 "Clan Line" powers through Stoke Canon hauling the return working of the Torbay express back to Bristol Temple Meads.

9 July 1967 was the last day of steam from Waterloo, and no-one could have thought that, 55 years later, it would be still be possible to see fast line long-distance steam workings there! With the sunset 'glint' option now having passed owing to late running, the signals provide the burnishing on the train as Bulleid 'Merchant Navy' 35028 'Clan LIne' accelerates hard through West Byfleet from its Woking stop. Signal problems at Weymouth had delayed its start by 48 minutes but it arrived at Waterloo only 14 minutes down. 8k video frame.

Merchant Navy class 4-6-2 35028 Clan Line casts a pall of smoke across an otherwise bucolic scene as it heads a steam special back to Paddington through rural Gloucestershire.
