The great barbet ( Psilopogon virens ) is an Asian barbet native to the Indian sub-continent and Southeast Asia, where it inhabits foremost forests up to 3,000 m (9,800 ft) altitude. It has been listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List since 2004 because of its wide distribution.

Golden-throated Barbet - Megalaima franklinii , this is the final bird shot from Phulchowki, Kathmandu valley, Nepal. I will post a scenic shot and then move to shots from day 2 of my trip, when we moved from Kathmandu to Koshi.
台灣擬啄木《中華鳥會舊名：五色鳥》Taiwan Barbet【學名：Megalaima nuchalis】鴷形目 / 五色鳥科；俗名：花和尚。
拍攝生態照片，總是有很多爭議性的問題，有人拍鳥是湊個熱鬧，跟隨流行；有人是本身喜歡鳥兒而去拍攝，也無對錯，但若過度干擾，肯定是人出了問題。我雖為鳥攝新手，但絕對尊重大自然法則。
在此分享些心得：
1.著大地色系衣物、帽子等，盡量融入環境的衣著。
2.勿過度接近的拍攝，尤其是育雛時期，鳥兒敏感，切勿留下任何人類氣味，拍不到寧可靜靜觀看即可。
3.安靜拍攝，人類的聲音依舊是會對鳥兒造成壓力，若要談話，也因禮貌性的輕聲細語。
4.勿隨意透露鳥兒出沒地點，如我所言，有些人是為了湊熱鬧而拍鳥，這就不必了。
5.細心觀察並紀錄，瞭解各種生態的變化，有助於對環境變化的瞭解，加強保育觀念。
6.最簡單也最難，那就是對大自然萬物的敬畏，因為人類永遠是最渺小的。以上純自身心得，僅供各位參考及指教。

The Black-browed Barbet or Müller's Barbet (Megalaima oorti) is a bird belonging to the Asian barbet family, Megalaimidae.
It is 20-23.5 cm long. The plumage is mostly green apart from the head which is patterned with blue, yellow and red. There is a black stripe above the eye. The bill is black and the feet are grey-green.
It has a scattered distribution in south-eastern Asia. The subspecies M. o. oorti occurs in Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula. M. o. annamensis is found in eastern Cambodia, southern Laos and south-central Vietnam; it is sometimes treated as a separate species, the Indochinese Barbet.
Three further subspecies of Black-browed Barbet are now commonly treated as two separate species: the Chinese Barbet (M. faber) of southern China (M. f. sini in Guangxi and M. f. faber in Hainan) and the Taiwan Barbet (M. nuchalis) of Taiwan.

It inhabits tropical and subtropical forests. It forages in the upper and middle levels of the canopy. It excavates a nest hole in a tree .

It is a resident found in South Asia and parts of Southeast Asia. Like other barbets, they chisel out a hole inside a tree to build their nest. They are mainly fruit eating but will take sometimes insects, especially winged termites.

Starting a series on pics from India.
The Brown-headed Barbet, which is endemic to the Indian subcontinent, is not uncommon wherever there are trees, even in cities. Its "ku-turr, ku-turr" call is a characteristic sound of Indian woods. Like many other barbets its usually hard to get in the open, but this bird was so busy gorging itself of figs from this Pepul (Ficus religiosa) tree, that it let me get this shot. This was at the District Park in Paschim Vihar (West Delhi), near my parent's apartment. It is a small island of green in an area that is now densely populated on all sides. Like other such urban parks in Delhi, it can be very rewarding to spend some time here. Dec 29, 2015.
The smallest of the Barbets, the Coppersmith ( Megalaima haemacephala ) is a colorful sparrow-sized bird. This is the male, the female is in the nest cavity which is just above the fungus, in the shady area.

Ceylon Small Barbet (Megalaima rubricapillus) is an endemic resident of Sri Lanka. An adult male. Belongs to Capitonidae family. Clicked at Kandawala Lake Ratmalana, Sri Lanka.

Like many other barbets of Asia, these are green, sit still and perch upright making them difficult to spot but easy to capture. During the breeding season which begins at the start of summer their calls become loud and constant especially in the mornings. The main range is along the Western Ghats south from the Surat Dangs and along the associated hills of southern India into parts of the southern Eastern Ghats. These birds are mostly frugivorous, but will take winged termites and other insects opportunistically.

台灣擬啄木《中華鳥會舊名：五色鳥》Taiwan Barbet【學名：Megalaima nuchalis】鴷形目 / 五色鳥科；因鳴聲像和尚敲木魚的聲音而得俗名：花和尚。此為幼鳥 Juvenile ( 雛鳥至幼鳥階段) 。
拍攝時間：2013 / 6 / 30，已離巢。五色鳥寶寶們在等父母親外出覓食的這段時間，到底都在做些什麼？寶寶們輪流探出洞口張東西望的，有鳥影飛過、人靠近走過，甚至狗狗走過；牠們就會馬上縮回去，各種的表情和模樣真的是很古錐。
這次用組圖的方式來呈現牠們可愛的表情和模樣，希望大家會更喜歡牠們，並學習保護及尊重牠們，台灣擬啄木的復育算是相當成功，牠們也適應了都會地區的叢林生活。
