How bad is the H1N1 outbreak in California? Last week, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell announced new protective measures for schools. This includes a CDC recommendation that school nurses caring for ill students should wear gloves and an N95 respirator face mask, like the one shown here. The CA Emergency Management Authority recently received a pair of federal grants to buy millions of sets of masks and gloves.
I made two masks this week to donate to the fashion sale at the school- they turned out great- the theme of the event is "The Secrets of Marie Antionette" and both masks have the 18th century Commedia dell'arte look.

This African Mask hung on our wal for years before I decided to mosaic it. It's a little over 3 feet long and 1 foot wide. I still have to grout it... that should be FUN!
