The EC-130H Compass Call is an airborne tactical weapon system using a heavily modified version of the C-130 Hercules airframe. The system disrupts enemy command and control communications and limits adversary coordination essential for enemy force management. The Compass Call system employs the offensive counterinformation and electronic attack capabilities in support of U.S. and Coalition tactical air, surface, and special operations forces. Programmed upgrades will expand its mission by procuring a secondary Electronic Attack (EA) capability against early warning and acquisition radars.
Airborne electronic warfare consists of three major 'players' forming a triad of capability: the EC-130H Compass Call, the EA-6B Prowler, and the F-16CJ Fighting Falcon suppress enemy air defenses while jamming communications, radar and command and control targets. Compass Call is in demand with all unified commands, and therefore, subject to worldwide deployment in support of operations on very short notice.
The EC-130H fleet is composed of a mix of Block 30 and state-of-the-art Block 35 aircraft. All aircraft will transition to the Block 35 baseline configuration by fiscal 2011.
For Block 30 EC-130H, the upgrade achieved a major redesign of the mission compartment and operating system software of the Block 20 aircraft. Its primary focus was to provide a reprogrammable capability against target C2 systems.
For Block 35 EC-130H, the upgrade provides the Air Force with additional capabilities to jam communication, Early Warning/Acquisition radar and navigation systems through higher effective radiated power, extended frequency range and insertion of digital signal processing. The Block 35 will have the flexibility to keep pace with adversary use of technology. It is highly reconfigurable and permits incorporation of clip-ins with less crew impact. It promotes enhanced crew proficiency, maintenance and sustainment with a common fleet configuration, new operator interface, increased reliability and better fault detection.
Compass Call integrates into tactical air operations at any level. The versatile and flexible nature of the aircraft and its crew enable the power of electronic combat to be brought to bear in virtually any combat situation
Crew
The EC-130H aircraft carries a combat crew of 13 people. Four members are responsible for aircraft flight and navigation (Aircraft Commander, Co-Pilot, Navigator and Flight Engineer), while nine members operate and employ the EW mission equipment permanently integrated in the cargo/mission compartment. The mission crew includes the Mission Crew Commander (Electronic Warfare Officer), Weapon System Officer (Electronic Warfare Officer), Mission Crew Supervisor (an experienced Cryptologic Linguist), four Analysis Operators (linguists), one Acquisition Operator (Cryptologic Linguist) and an Airborne Maintenance Technician

Explored the old American Adventure Theme Park mostly demolished now.
The themepark opened in 1987 and was funded by Granada Media, with the inclusion of none themed rollercoasters.
Soon after 1997 American Adventure was sold to Ventureworld headed by former Alton Towers developer John Broome, this did not last long as the park was then sold to THG Group.
Around the year 2005/06 the themepark started selling its previous rides to other themeparks and staff cuts continue until the park was no longer able to run and was closed at the end of 2006.

A Blue Flower Wasp of some sort on Kunzea ambigua flowers. It had interesting yellow markings behind the eyes that set it apart from most other Blue Flower Wasps I have seen. Hoping to get an exact I.D. for it soon. [Lower Blue Mountains, NSW]

Accident markings show an arrow pointing the direction of the train and a horizontal red arrow from which the word 'auto' has been worn away.
There is barely a week which passes without reports of road vehicles being hit by trains at level crossings despite warning bells and lights. This is Trousko station where a shrine out of picture on the left commemorates two young men who were killed here some years ago. More recently a car couldn't wait for a stopped unit to get on its way and drove in front of it with, fortunately, less drastic damage.
Hooray! I had a knack for catching animals heeding the call of nature. But the ranger pointed out that male lions actually have rearward facing genitals to help them spray their urine over a larger area to claim their territory.

I don't know what kind of material it is made of but it feels like varnished cardboard. They are very hard to read. It says:
OSUHR

Patented U.S.A. Aug 31 1926
Patented GR.Brit. NR 276738 1926
Brevet Brevetto Patente
Some of these older clocks with this type of back are not marked Osuhr but are marked:

While wandering along the river, I found a curious obelisk-shaped stone. I placed it on the riverbank and aligned it with the setting sun.
Happy vernal equinox everyone.
Ampex sign - marking Gateway to Silicon Valley and peninsula midpoint between SF and SJ. While Stanford goes about retrofitting the previous Excite buildings, for its new hospital in Redwood City, the Ampex sign remains in place: fixed, immovable, immutable, nada, sorry can't move - for the exclusive use of its tenants - and a continuing si vly landmark.
Just wondering out loud - is it even on the state register of historic locations yet? (...should be on the county's historic spots, if it isn't already, hint, hint.)
Yesterday, late afternoon... The sun was going down. Lots of things were going on!
The tree-murderers finally finished their job destroying the trees, bushes and plants that used to inhabit this space and put the rent-a-fence back in place. What's done is done... The good news is that Mother Nature is gonna return with a vengeance! The place will be green in no time. Well, relatively speaking... In the meantime, the hill, with the pale brown earth now in full view, seems so empty and bare ! ! !
This shot demonstrates another timely event: the beginning of Yom Kippur, which was to begin in about an hour, at sundown. The Jewish Orthodox neighbor walking along the rent-a-fence is wearing his cloth shoes, which are de rigeur on this particular Holy Day. He's clearly on his way to the synagogue for an evening of prayer. G-d bless him...and all of us!
Meanwhile, some neighbors are hungry and ordered pizza... The man on the bicycle, wearing a safety helmet, has just delivered a pizza and perhaps more. Now he's on his way back to the pizzeria, to pick up another delivery.
I was on my way downtown to a (disappointing) show at my favorite dance venue, the Dance Theatre Workshop, noticed the fence and my neighbors, and decided to mark the moment...

U.S. Consul General Launches Access to Credit Initiative for Punjab’s Micro, Small and Medium Sized Businesses
Lahore, October 26, 2015 – U.S. Consul General in Lahore Zachary Harkenrider highlighted U.S. support for small and medium enterprises at an event marking the Punjab launch of the U.S. - Pakistan Partnership for Access to Credit Program. Supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the program will provide credit to qualified micro, small and medium-sized Pakistani businesses through a partnership with four Pakistani banks.
“One of our top assistance priorities is helping Pakistan achieve sustained economic growth and development. Today we come together to celebrate the Punjab launch of an important program designed to do just that,” stated Consul General Harkenrider. He added that this partnership with Pakistani banks is part of a larger program of support that will provide direct assistance to SMEs to help them grow, expand, and find new markets for their products and services.
The U.S. - Pakistan Partnership for Access to Credit is a partnership of USAID with the following four banks: Bank Alfalah Limited, J S Bank Limited, Khushhali Bank Limited, and First Micro Finance Bank Limited. The program was launched at the national level earlier this year.
Of the approximately 3.2 million businesses in Pakistan, nearly 3 million are small and medium sized. These small and medium sized businesses produce more than 30 percent of Pakistan's GDP and 25 percent of the nation's total export earnings. The sector could contribute even more growth, but is constrained principally by a lack of access to credit. Pakistani banks often perceive the sector as high-risk and are reluctant to make loans to small and medium sized businesses. To change this perception and demonstrate the financial viability of lending to this sector, USAID through the U.S.-Pakistan Partnership for Access to Credit program has partnered with local banks to provide up to $60 million in loan capital to micro, small and medium businesses. Of this amount, $12.1 million has been set aside for educational institutions.
The United States has a long track record of support to small and medium enterprises in Pakistan. In the last three years, USAID has supported job creation for 23,000 Pakistanis through cooperative projects and more than 85,000 micro, small and medium sized enterprises have received business development services from various U.S. initiatives in Pakistan.
