Last Snow......
A heavy snow fell early March 2019 covering everything with a thick layer of fresh fluffy white snow. We got up early and headed to the park where we found ourselves in a scene from the movie Narnia; snow was falling from the branches above every time the wind blew. at times it was as if it was still snowing... with so much snow falling from the heavy laden branches overhead.

A large stork with a long yellow bill that curves down at the tip, like that of an Ibis. Adult is primarily white with black striped markings on the wings and bright pink on tertials. Also note the bright orange face, pinkish legs, and speckled band across the chest. Immatures are duller, with a brown wash, and lack the chest band. These storks typically fly with their head and neck drooping almost at or below the belly level. Often seen near water bodies such as wetlands, marshes, and flooded agricultural fields. Breeds in crowded colonies, often with other waterbirds. (eBird)

We saw a lot of these lovely storks on our first birding day in Thailand. They were busy fishing in the salt pans around the Gulf of Thailand. After that, we saw Asian Openbill storks instead.

Rockjumper Birding Tours.
A group of us spent the last sunset of an awesome New Zealand South Island adventure pier-hopping and chasing the light until we ended up in front of some wonderful melted wood at the tranquil Lake Wakatipu (just down the road from Queenstown).
The tranquility was soon after turned on its head by one of our number jumping into the water to light paint the pier and spell some choice words, but that's another story.
Steam Locomotive - Leander @ Bangor Station.
Bangor railway station is a railway station in Bangor, Gwynedd, operated by Transport for Wales Rail. The station, which is 24+3⁄4 miles east of Holyhead, is the last mainland station on the North Wales Coast line between Crewe and Holyhead.
Hares must always be on the lookout checking for predators even when resting or eating. The contrasting markings on the back of hares' ears can be used as signals to other hares even in low light at dusk. During the lockdown I am missing visiting my favourite place for watching hares.
The underwing markings of the White Admiral have to be one of the most beautiful of all our butterfly species imo.

The great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) is a medium-sized woodpecker with pied black and white plumage and a red patch on the lower belly. Males and young birds also have red markings on the neck or head. This species is found across the Palearctic including parts of North Africa. Across most of its range it is resident, but in the north some will migrate if the conifer cone crop fails. Some individuals have a tendency to wander, leading to the recent recolonisation of Ireland and to vagrancy to North America. Great spotted woodpeckers chisel into trees to find food or excavate nest holes, and also drum for contact and territorial advertisement; they have anatomical adaptations to manage the physical stresses from the hammering action. This species is similar to the Syrian woodpecker.
Simha is beautiful all over, but the white markings on his paws, chest and belly make him even more beautiful. However, the most outstanding part of his body is his amazing amber eyes.

Of course this isn’t that at all. This beautiful animal is in fact marking his territory. Rhino are territorial and patrol their ‘borders’ in the morning marking and scraping the area. It was such a privilege to watch this.
Lions are my favorites of the big cats. They like to hunt, fight, play, love, bond and, unfortunately, sleep. Males are protective of their territory and leave a message at the proverbial post office, whenever they pass by. It was fun watching even young males stop by the post office and check the mail, even if they didn’t leave their own personal scent message. This big guy checked the post office for messages and left one of his own. (Panther leo) (Sony a1, 70-200mm lens @ 121mm, f/5, 1/500 second, ISO 640)
I think Flint's facial markings make him look like he could be a member of the band Kiss. So for grins I fed an image into ChatGPT and asked to give Flint a black wig and playing guitar for Kiss. Pretty amazing and amusing to me. (The original photo is in the first comment)
The Golden Tanager (Tangara arthus) is a vibrant gem of the Andean cloud forests, and capturing this species at La Minga Ecolodge near Cali, Colombia, was a rewarding experience. The soft morning light filtered through the dense canopy, illuminating the tanager’s striking yellow plumage contrasted by its deep black facial markings. Perched against a natural backdrop of lush green foliage, the bird’s pose reflected both elegance and alertness, creating a visually dynamic scene.
From a technical perspective, I relied on a fast shutter speed of 1/350 sec to freeze the tanager’s subtle movements, while an aperture of f/6.7 provided a shallow depth of field, beautifully separating the subject from its surroundings. An ISO setting of 400 allowed for optimal detail retention without introducing unwanted noise, essential in the low-light forest environment. The interplay of natural light and thoughtful exposure choices helped emphasize the bird’s vivid coloring while preserving the surrounding environment’s atmospheric mood. This photograph reminds me of how patience, preparation, and respect for nature converge in a perfect photographic moment.

Marking time - The abandoned fishing trawlers at Salen on the Isle of Mull under a moody, dark and brooding sky.
There is a melancholy beauty to these wrecks as they mark the passage of time, slowly rotting, crumbling to an ever perilous state of decay; hinting at an existence and former island life that once was.
A Hebridean tradition, boats are often left to decay on the shoreline where they come to rest at the end of their working lives.
Salen, Isle of Mull, Scottish Inner Hebrides
