Taken from below at Butchart Gardens, where the subtle backlight emphasized the red of the maple seeds against the leaves. Simplified with Topaz to help bring out shapes and depth of what was a somewhat chaotic image.

This impressive maple is just inside the gates of the Seattle Japanese Garden. It's glorious colors made up for the lack of lustre elsewhere.
Edited with Capture NX, which I recommend for Nikon users, not so much as a stand alone, but as an adjunct to something like Elements.
CP #7022, the Navy tribute engine, leads 243 into Maple Lake, Minnesota on the former Soo Line mainline towards the Dakotas with a healthy cut of auto racks on the head end.
I’m very happy that these Japanese maples are coming back to full health. No longer deteriorating, they have been fenced in for a few years to keep people from sitting on their branches. They are even more beautiful in the spring and fall!
