Excerpt from ontarioconservationareas.ca/conservation-areas/rockway/:

Part of the Niagara Escarpment and offers history and beauty in a remote setting. Hike the trail into the Fifteen Mile Creek valley to experience mature Basswood, Sugar Maple, Black Walnut and Sycamore trees.

Two spectacular waterfalls plunge from heights of 19.5 meters and 12.2 meters. The watercourse continues downriver, surging over a series of rapids. Boasting some of the best quality and quantity of salt in Ontario, the salt spring dates as far back as 1792.

I see fires in the night

The Epitome of Canada, the red maple leaf. Well I hope it is.

Maple having a little rest, and posing for the camera, on our walk through a local ravine last week. He was VERY happy to have a change of scenery.

Fortunately his front leg is covering his 'happiness'.

Just your typical Sugar Maple in the backyard. No biggie :)

We can get some awful weather up here and have some real clunkers of days even in the summer. I ran out in a thunderstorm and stood under a big maple for this poor shot of a lone F working the local west on June 17, 1977. Ya I know its not smart standing under a tree in a thunderstorm but damn it was an F and I wasn't there long:).

2225-B scoots along with 7 cars while the crew give me an amused look...."hey look, there's Chuck out in a thunderstorm shooting pictures":). Sorry about the grainy garbage shot but it is F-unit Friday.

It's fall in Central Park.

When we moved here 25 years ago, there wasn't a tree in the back yard. My dad dug up a maple sapling off his property and brought it to us. We planted it and watched it struggle to survive and then thrive becoming a showpiece of our yard. Dad will be gone 10 years in April but his tree lives on in his memory. Thanks Dad!

It became the season of maple red in Shizuoka.

A lot of maple trees can be seen in the slope of mountain.

I was sitting watching birds when I realized that watching this tree as the sunlight caught the leaves was even better.

My aunt gave me this Japanese Maple. I like to post pictures every so often so she can see how it is doing. Taken April 22, 2008.

Taken from below at Butchart Gardens, where the subtle backlight emphasized the red of the maple seeds against the leaves. Simplified with Topaz to help bring out shapes and depth of what was a somewhat chaotic image.
