^^^^

This coin is a tribute to a hero of the War of 1812: The Regulars of Charles-Michel de Salaberry's colonial army, called the Canadian Voltigeurs, formed a corps of light infantry that distinguished itself in combat and became one of the most famous units of the war of 1812. At the end of the summer of 1812, the American command orchestrated a campaign to seize the city of Montreal. Charles –Michel de Salaberry immediately organized solid defences that ensured him a quick and decisive victory: his Voltigeurs and their native allies routed the invaders, even if they were twice as numerous. Despite the legend arising around de Salaberry and the Battle of Châteauguay, including the assertion that 300 allies had forced the retreat of 7,000 Americans, regardless of historical exaggeration, the actions and heroism of de Salaberry and the Voltigeurs remain key moments in the War of 1812. In 2013, the Royal Canadian Mint issued a 25-cent commemorative coin embossing the effigy of Lieutenant Colonel Charles-Michel de Salaberry, the hero of the war of 1812.

“Got you a surprise”: Jokey is the village prankster. Jokey almost always used the same form of "joke"; yellow- and red-wrapped present boxes that he offers to his victims, saying that it is a "surprise". When opened, the "present" box explodes with a sizable quantity of black smoke which blackens the receiver's face. Gargamel is naturally a favorite target, and Brainy is as well. His birthday coincides with Halloween.

What is not seen, what is imagined, in this space of vision let us try to see and find a personal and intimate meaning in objects that are perhaps very banal; let us observe these objects, especially in the details, in the colours and their shadows and let us try to bring out the unsaid, the hidden and why not, perhaps the "Beauty!” Will it be possible?

ENGLISH CAPTION: "Thor's Hammer". A thunderstorm hovers over the ruins of the Epecuén Touristic Village, Adolfo Alsina County (Buenos Aires Province, Argentina). In November 10, 1985, and after a breach in the city earth embankment, the village was completely flooded by the waters of the Epecuén Lake, remaining completely submerged under water for nearly 25 years. During the last years, the waters have been slowly receding, leaving a devastated landscape of ruins, rubbles and high amounts of rusted metals, which during thunderstorms act as lightning rods, attracting electrical discharges from the storms passing through the area.

ENGLISH CAPTION: "Beam of Light..." Almost one hundred years have passed since the end of the nitrate mining boom at the Atacama Desert (Chile). Today, only ruins and ghost towns remain as witnesses to its former glory. In the vastness of the desert, these old mines (called "Oficinas") were true towns where people work and live, often in conditions very close to slavery.

This night shot was made with the help of the moonlight and two flashlights in the ruins of the "Oficina Tricolor", located near the settlement of Agua Verde, about 80 km east of the city of Taltal, in the second Region of Antofagasta.

ENGLISH CAPTION: "Stellar" When I was just a kid, someone told me that who sees the first star of the evening has the opportunity to make a wish... Since then, every time I witness a sunset, I try to wait for that sole moment when the first star of the evening makes its appearance; no longer waiting for the chance to make a wish, but simply to enjoy that brief but unique moment where the day turns into night, and the warm sunset colors are mixed with the cold darkness of the night.

This shot, made in the outskirts of the city of Taltal (Second Region, Chile), is trying to portray that one unique moment. In the frame you can see the Moon, Venus (the evening star), and the constellation of Orion overlapping with the last moments of the sunset. The image is completed with the light trails of the passing trucks on Route 5. I hope you like it!

ENGLISH CAPTION: "Road to the stars" This week (from April 13 to 19) is the International Dark Sky Week 2015, a worldwide event carried with the aim of creating awareness about how the misuse of urban lights is making us lose the beautiful sight of the night sky.

To make this photo, I had to drive over an hour from my home to the shot location with the hope of finding a dark sky to capture, yet the clouds are illuminated by the lights of the city of Magdalena (Buenos Aires, Argentina), located about 10 km to the left of the picture...

But light pollution is much more that not to see the stars, it produces alterations in plant growing rates and changes in animal habits, including man. And the craziest thing of all this is that is not a very expensive nor complex thing to solve!, it is all a matter of optimizing resources and do some thinking ahead urban development.
