Juniper berries or 'coccole,' with a diameter that varies between 4-7 millimetres, is widely used both in cooking and in liqueur making. In cooking they are an indispensable flavouring for the game and, often, for various roasts. Le sujet de cette semaine est vraiment quelque chose qui nous rappelle des moments passés, nos jeux d'enfance, du moins pour les personnes d'un certain âge. Nous n'avions pas beaucoup de jouets, mais nous savions nous amuser avec tout, même avec les pierres que nous trouvions dans la rue, mais nous jouions ensemble et jamais seuls. Ainsi, en plus d'une plus grande créativité, nos jeux avaient également une valeur éducative, car en jouant en groupe, on apprend beaucoup des autres. Au contraire, aujourd'hui les enfants se rencontrent rarement en extérieur, leurs relations sont virtuelles... Alors merci MM pour cette occasion: Dans ces petites sphères, billes de verre coloré, nous retrouvions toute notre imagination d'antan. Merci!

Traditionally Armenians dye Easter hard-boiled red eggs by using the skin of red onions, and then draw bright gold crosses over the coloured eggs symbolizing, the red blood of Christ, of life and fertility. Just like other Christian Orthodox faithfuls, Armenians also have their traditions surrounding this festivity. Cracking eggs which take place before Easter lunch. The breaking begins when each guest plays, holding one egg tightly in their right hand and hitting the tip of the one next to them with the tip of the egg, saying : “Krisdos haryav i merelots" meaning: “Christ is risen from the dead!” and the others answer, “Orhnyal e harutyun’ Krisdosi” meaning: “Blessed is the Resurrection of Christ!” the diners proceed in this way, making the eggs collide between all the guests while the last one, breaks on his forehead. A custom that would like to recall in a popular interpretation a particular moment of the mystery of the resurrection: As written in the Gospels, since it was Saturday, the disciples were unable to adequately embalm the body of the crucified Christ, so that early on Sunday morning, the women went to the tomb hoping to complete the burial, but were surprised to see that the stone in front of the tomb had been broken. For Armenians the pomegranate (in Armenian language “Նուռ” Transliteration: Noor ) and Apricot (Prunus armeniaca) are the most recognizable symbols and emblems of the country. In Armenian mythology it symbolizes fertility, abundance and good fortune. It was a guardian against the evil eye. At weddings in Western Armenia, a bride would throw a pomegranate and break it into pieces. Its scattered seeds ensured that the bride would bear children. In some rural areas exists the tradition for Armenian women who wanted to have a son would eat bread made from dough mixed with pomegranate seeds. Symbol of life, tradition tells us also that each mature pomegranate has 365-366 seeds, one for each day of the year. An austere fruit on the outside and equally rich on the inside. Its importance is attested in historical Armenian manuscripts since from the 5th century AD, together with grapes and their branches, and on Armenian stone-cross carvings (in Armenian “խաչքար” Transliteration: Khatchkar) where it was used as a popular ornament. One of the most iconic Armenian art movies is that of Sergey Paradjanov used this symbolic fruit as the title to his great 20th century masterpiece “The Color of Pomegranates” emphasizing the most symbolic concept for Armenians: in the film, the red pomegranate on a table with its wrinkled skin and fresh pulp stands out as an embodiment of the invincible soul of Armenia. Until the very day pomegranate is a commonly used theme in Armenian art and culture including cuisine. In fact, it has turned into a national cliché. The colour of the pomegranate resembles blood and vitality, and the grains are a symbol of procreation. The symbolism of a pomegranate is due, firstly, to its colour, and secondly, to its shape and thirdly, its internal structure, which embodies the principle of unity and integrity. In recent decades, the grenade is considered to be also the symbol of the Armenian Diaspora scattered throughout the world. Go to any Armemian art exhibition, and you are sure to see two or three (or more) paintings where the pomegranate is featured. During weddings in Yerevan a small dried pomegranate called “taratosik” is given by a bride to unmarried guests as a blessing. After the horrid events of the Armenian Genocide in 1915, many Armenian artists have used pomegranates as a theme in their lyrics and poems to describe a wide range of emotions, from suffering to hope, rebirth and survival of a nation

To shoot this Macro image with backlighting, I used a smooth and clear transparent crystal jewelry box as a base and placed LED lighting inside. Next I arranged the quartz stones on the top face of the crystal box and then shot my macro image with backlighting. The background is a black card.

A seductive play of highlights and shadows and to increase the dynamics of the shadows a sheet of white paper is used as a reflector or better as a reflecting panel illuminated with an adjustable LED flashlight: then everything became abstract as Wassily Kandinsky says: “Form itself, even if completely abstract ... has its own inner sound.”
Un gioco seducente di alte luci e ombre e per aumentare la dinamica delle ombre usato un foglio di carta bianca come riflettore o meglio come pannello riflettente illuminato con una torcia LED regolabile: poi tutto divenne astratto come dice Wassily Kandinsky: “La forma stessa, anche se completamente astratta... ha un suo suono interiore.”
