An image taken at Ogwen falls, down the side of the bridge. I enjoyed investigating this little properly as there were lots of varying compositions with using the water to lead the eyes through the image to back. Like the overall dark feel of the landscape, wrapping around the water.

The mallard is a medium-sized waterfowl species that is often slightly heavier than most other dabbling ducks. It is 50–65 cm long – of which the body makes up around two-thirds – has a wingspan of 81–98 cm and weighs 0.72–1.58 kg. Among standard measurements, the wing chord is 25.7 to 30.6 cm. The bill is 4.4 to 6.1 cm and the tarsus is 4.1 to 4.8 cm.

A seductive play of highlights and shadows and to increase the dynamics of the shadows a sheet of white paper is used as a reflector or better as a reflecting panel illuminated with an adjustable LED flashlight: then everything became abstract as Wassily Kandinsky says: “Form itself, even if completely abstract ... has its own inner sound.”

The gyrfalcon is a very large falcon, being about the same size as the largest buzzards. Males are 48 to 61 cm long, weigh 805 to 1,350 g with average weights reported as 1,130 or 1,170 g and have a wingspan from 110 to 130 cm. Females are bulkier and larger, at 51 to 65 cm long, 124 to 160 cm wingspan, and of 1,180 to 2,100 g weight, with average weights of 1,585 or 1,752 g.

One more from the island, shot with the Samyang 14mm @f/8.0.

It's really cool walking on those overpasses. You can spend a whole day walking around the city from a building to overpass to another and to the next overpass and never touch the ground...

Adult breeding males have a colorful and complex plumage pattern. The head and neck are dark slate blue with a large white crescent marking in front of the eye, a small round dot behind the eye, and a larger oval spot down the side of the neck. A black crown stripe runs over the top of the head, with chestnut patches on either side. A black-bordered white collar separates the head from the breast. The body is largely a lighter slate blue with chestnut sides. A black-bordered white bar divides the breast vertically from the sides. The tail is black, long and pointed.

Another shot from Micheldever woods taken a few weeks ago. Taken shortly after sunrise.

Micheldever is very close to where I grew up and I always enjoy the chance to photograph English woodland which is very different to the Wicklow landscape I normally shoot.

A medium-large shorebird, the lesser yellowlegs measures 27 cm. The legs are yellow. Compared to the greater yellowlegs, the bill is shorter (visually about the same length as the head), slim, straight, and uniformly dark. The breast is streaked and the flanks are finely marked with short bars. A vagrant in Iceland and a new lifer for me species no. 156.

The rusting remains of the SS Gairloch’s bow can be seen on the beach at Ōakura. The Gairloch was one of the vessels of the Northern Steamship Company, which ran a coastal shipping service between Onehunga, New Plymouth, Wanganui and Nelson in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Designed especially for the North Island coastal service, the Gairloch was launched in Glasgow in 1884. Late at night on 5 January 1903, it ran ashore in stormy weather, 10 kilometres south of New Plymouth. No lives were lost, and many of the ship’s fittings and much of the cargo were eventually salvaged.

Yes this is a 10 years old image. In fact this year I did plan to visit Egypt one more time during Christmas. However, with the current COVID situation, it is very unclear if that trip will also be cancelled or not. Like it happened during my Easter visit to Morocco. So I found this image from the archive and though of sharing it.

Very classic image of one of the oldest standing monuments of human history. A feat of engineering that still makes you wonder.

Egypt is a classic place and probably the one I have fantasized about the most during childhood. The fantasy was waved more with The Mummy movie. I was studying in college and the move really made me feel that I have to visit Egypt once in my life. With the wheel of time when I finally reached Egypt for the first time in 2008 it was very different than what I saw in the movie. But still it had its own charm. I just purchased the Canon 5D during that time. My first serious camera. With almost no experience I took horrible images. I was happy with those images though at that time. But within few months I realized that I messed up completely. So I had to get back to Egypt for another attempt. The second trip was much better from photography point of view; but due to small age of my son, I couldn't spend too long in the white desert.

After that the problem started in Egype. But now things seems to be under control. So this time I will spend more time in the desert. At the same time hopefully I will be able to manage some videos of this amazing country as well. Too bad that done is a complete no no in Egypt. This is a place where areal views would have been very interesting. But well, I will try the best I can if I manage to get there.

I intend to take the same picture this time as well. Only that I will wait for more camels and I will go there not during mid day rather more close to evening so that I get a nice a dark shadow on the left wall of the Pyramid making it look more 3D. But 10 years back, all those ideas were far from reality. But still I am happy with what I did manage to capture that time specially if I compare that with my 2008 attempt!

Have a nice weekend.

Hope you will enjoy the picture.

Any suggestions or criticisms are always welcome.

This is a widespread and often abundant small pipit, 14.5–15 cm long and 15–22 g weight. It is an undistinguished looking species on the ground, mainly brown above and buff below, with darker streaking on most of its plumage; the tail is brown, with narrow white side edges. It has a thin bill and pale pinkish-yellow legs.

one of ullswaters many islands bathing in the early morning light.

Adults are 17–19.5 cm in length with a 35–41 cm wingspan. They have a grey-brown back and wings, a white belly, and a white breast with one black neckband. They have a brown cap, a white forehead, a black mask around the eyes and a short orange and black bill. The legs are orange and only the outer two toes are slightly webbed.

Snapped this one last week on an outing to Bungan Beach on Sydneys North Shore. Headed out with my bud Darren for a hope of some great skies.....but instead..not a cloud to be seen as we turned up. Eventually a small patch came passed and showed enough to get a capture.

Thanks for Looking
