My husband built this birdhouse back in Alaska to specific sizes for swallows. Chickadees used it two years in a row. It stood high on a metal pole away from interlopers.
Then we moved here, birdhouse included, and finally, tree swallows! Sounds like quite a few hungry ones inside.
Photo today by my husband, Howard Marsh, using his D4 and my 500mm f/4 on the Manfrotto monopod.

The sea stack at Waverley Beach - looking at all the cracks in it, I'm not sure how much longer this might be here! Originally it had a full arch connecting to the shore rock but this collapsed several years ago in 2012.

An adult dunlin in breeding plumage shows the distinctive black belly which no other similar-sized wader possesses. The winter dunlin is basically grey above and white below. Juveniles are brown above with two whitish "V" shapes on the back. They usually have black marks on the flanks or belly and show a strong white wingbar in flight.

Mandarin duck the adult male has a red bill, large white crescent above the eye and reddish face and "whiskers". The male's breast is purple with two vertical white bars, and the flanks ruddy, and he has two orange "sails" at the back (large feathers that stick up like boat sails). The female is similar to the female wood duck, with a white eye-ring and stripe running back from the eye, but is paler below, has a small white flank stripe, and a pale tip to its bill. Both the males and females have crests, but the purple crest is more pronounced on the male.
The reclamation of Haarlemmermeer by means of steam power marked the breakthrough of the Industrial Revolution in the Netherlands. “De Cruquius”, commissioned in 1849, pumped Lake Haarlem dry in three years and three months, together with two identical steam-pumping stations. Both other pumping stations were drastically modernised after 50 years, but the Cruquius remained untouched.

The whooper swan is similar in appearance to the Bewick's swan. It is larger, however, at a length of 140–165 cm and a wingspan of 205–275 cm. Weight typically is in the range of 7.4–14 kg with an average of 9.8–11.4 kg for males and 8.2–9.2 kg for females. The verified record mass was 15.5 kg for a wintering male from Denmark. It is considered to be amongst the heaviest flying birds.
