Duck, Kale sprouts

G'day food lovers

I'm not feeling terribly hungry today. That said, I need to dedicate this meal to a work mate. Today we were discussing some taboo foods and when I mentioned that I was planning duck tonight my friend exclaimed that I shouldn't eat duck because ducks communicate. She explained there are ducks in literature which speak and she sent me a picture of a duck named Jemima which is apparently a famous duck for children. I've never heard of Jemima the duck so I'm dedicating this meal to my work friend and naming my sous vide duck breast, Jemima.

Jemima was cooked sous vide for 2 hours at 76 °C. I chilled Jemima in the refrigerator and then removed Jemima from the vacuum bag and dried Jemima's surfaces with kitchen towel. I heated up a frypan so it was smoking hot and seared Jemima all over. I then sliced Jemima with my Dick™ butchers knife and ate Jemima with some oven roasted Kale sprouts which I'd doused with rice bran oil and iodised salt before exposing to 200 °C dry heat for 15 minutes.

Jemima was delicious. Have a good one.

Can anyone tell me how to avoid the really nasty crunchiness you get when you resize things in photoshop or you know, how flickr does when you upload? Even just point me at some resources if you know of any.

Cheers!

122 - I am officially a third of the way through my project! I also officially have manflu (caught from Andy) :(

I cancelled my riding lesson tonight as I didn't fancy being outside when I am not feeling great so I thought I would make good use of my time and write my Christmas cards. I forgot how long it takes having to write and address them all! I have run out of cards now and not managed to do any for the neighbours, should I buy some more or just not bother since we are moving after Christmas?!

Day 33

Let's face it, my stuff's been rubbish since I've got back from Iceland. And now I've come down with a particularly bad case of the manflu and inspiration is at rock bottom.

Then I thought of doing this. Nice, quick shutter speed. Pocketwizards doing their thing with my 430EXII at arm's length to my left, the wife assisting by holding the stream of water where I needed... and job done!

Today was the first day I really couldnt be bothered to find a shot to take for this 365. But I needed to do one so gathered together my haul from Morrisons earlier. It is my patented (or not) cure for the common cold, which I seem to have picked up from somewhere :( I blame the NEC!

It's suposed to have departed by now, but I still feel as rough as houses. I was supposed to finish my self isolation today, but there's no way I would risk other people's health by going back out into the real world whilst I feel like this.

This picture basically sums up how I am currently feeling. I've got a baaaad case of Manflu.

I hope everyone enjoys the blairwitch I got going on with my nose. I'm too ill to type any more.

Song of the day 'The Maccabees - Toothpaste Kisses'. A nice soothing song to listen to when you are feeling poorly :^(

The Video is pretty good too;

Today is my birthday! Yippee!. I'm 31 years young.

As luck would have it, I have a cold :( Sneezes, sniffles, and aches and pains (I think it's turning into manflu to be honest). The whole family are ill in one way or another too. So I spend my day today sipping hot lemsips from a mug, wrapped in a duvet.

Not to mention the electric shots I took getting this shot! I could have powered half of Manchester! (The duvet rubbing on my t-shirt I think).

Ah well, birthdays are overrated anyway. There'll always be a next year.....wont there?

...with a cold and 'throat'. Conventionally in these circumstances one has chicken soup. Indeed I did ask for such a soup made just as my mother used to. I was given to understand said soup was not available at such short notice. If at all.

The soft boiled eggs were very good, nourishing for both the soul and the body but I have suggested 20 seconds less next time.

I'm fairly new in my job and so I'm still withing the compulsory probationary period (six months!) before being made permanent. I'm enjoying the job too, and should be fine when it comes to my appraisal.

There is one little annoyance with this probationary period, though; they won't pay me sick leave during these months. I'm sure they have reasons for such a rule but there is a very obvious consequence.

Today (Friday) I'm as sick as a dog. The ManFlu has me and my nose is running like a gooey tap, and yet here I am sat at work. I can't afford to drop a day or two's pay from my wages, so here I am in the office infecting everyone else. I should be sat at home feeling sorry for myself like everyone else would, but no.

Not even the mighty Lemsip is making any difference to the green outpourings from my nose. Let's up it clears up soon.

6 hours of headache.

I've got a cold and much as I wanted to head into the downs with the cold temperatures, I'm a man so I'm going back to bed to die a long, slow, agonising and snotty death... Probably.

Taken from my balcony this morning while running in and out from the warm, wearing a hat, coat and scarf. I look forward to seeing other peoples pictures while I'm hitting the Beecham's...

Rubbish...

The front row in the fight against the dreaded man flu. You've got to be a bloke to understand how tough it can be! Pass the tissues.

Sniff. Sniff. Sniff.

I haven't slept until 8:00AM in forever, and I made this mark easily both Saturday and Sunday. I have had a chest cold for the last couple of weeks, and it kicked up a notch coming back from NZ last Wednesday. I bought some cold tablets last Friday and I have mostly following the schedule. Starting to feel better!

We have also been without phone and internet for the last 3 days, so I am behind posting, viewing my contacts and commenting.

It isn't man flu yet, I'm keeping going. This is just a cold. I should have been out and about today with my camera, but decided that discretion was the better part of valour and stayed in the warm with my Lemsip and throaty pastilles.

Remember, this isn't ManFlu. ManFlu is MUCH worse...

We had an almost impromptu photoshoot at the Boyle Camera Club last night and I wasn't feeling 100% (Possibly a touch of Manflu) so I just went into St Joseph's Church which shares it's grounds with the club. I liked the wooden roof which reminded me of a Roulette wheel.
