Do Something Different With Ham – Maple Leaf Tendersweet Apricot Stuffed Ham
Interesting concept in 1966, but a hot mess in 2010. We’re not sure that today’s dinner party guests would applaud the hog-tied look – the string is a little gross, and the whole ham looks like a leaky sofa. And we would have to close our eyes to all that American pinkness.
Okay, let’s recap. This recipe has a little bit of everything: some chunks of fish and chips; a few dollops of chow mein; one or two splashes of fruit salad; all served awkwardly and wastefully in half a pineapple. There’s also cornstarch. We’ve got an idea: if the Rupert Brand people give us a trip to Hawaii, we’ll try this dish.
Getting 5 busy doctors together was impossible so I did this patient perspective photo-illustration using a mix of provided and original photography. My favorite part is the 6th doctor: McCoy from Star Trek (on the T.V. in the background).
Cream Of Rice: This Is As Hearty A Dish - We’re not sure what a ‘bland diet’ is, but we’re not surprised that Cream Of Rice is involved - and not in a good way.
Cover for our annual best of the best issue. Decided to turn our cover model into an actual award. The result: a golden moment!

Chase & Sanborn Coffee - Some folks want to bring back the good old days. Shelf Life would like to point out that for some people – eg the targets of everyday racism – the good old days were probably crap.
Cover package about a plastic surgery practice where the partners both served in the military during the Iraq war. Kudos go out to photographer, Fred Lopez. Great work!
Ritz Crackers: Nothing Fits The Occasion Like Ritz -- Interesting concept: ‘mock apple pie with Ritz as the filling’. Our first thought: they’re kidding, right? Second thought: they’re serious. Next thought: we’re just curious enough, and gobsmacked enough, to actually try this cockamamie recipe.
