Okay, let’s recap. This recipe has a little bit of everything: some chunks of fish and chips; a few dollops of chow mein; one or two splashes of fruit salad; all served awkwardly and wastefully in half a pineapple. There’s also cornstarch. We’ve got an idea: if the Rupert Brand people give us a trip to Hawaii, we’ll try this dish.

London design studio Spin have put Bella to fine use in the design and art direction of Christie’s magazine. Bella (designed by Rick Banks) is currently our #1 best seller, and being Exclusive to HFT it’s even better to see this font being used in context.
So much to marvel at here: the archaic product, the sunny ad copy, the endearingly pointless bit of verse beside the can. But most of all Shelf Life loves the fact that steps one and two were actually illustrated, as if you could get the ‘freezing compartment’ procedure wrong, or screw up opening the can.

Do Something Different With Ham – Maple Leaf Tendersweet Apricot Stuffed Ham
Interesting concept in 1966, but a hot mess in 2010. We’re not sure that today’s dinner party guests would applaud the hog-tied look – the string is a little gross, and the whole ham looks like a leaky sofa. And we would have to close our eyes to all that American pinkness.
