Apparently it is easy to forget to take out the transit packaging when you are a washing machine fitter! At least it turns out it was for our particular fitters!
They arrived without any tools at all, said they couldn't fit it properly as the taps were in the wrong place, left the dishwasher unconnected and tried to escape whiloe the machine was leaking water. They left dad to finish the job for them. However it never occurred to us that they would have left this polystyrene nd plastic packing beneath in the workings of the machine until we had to call out a service engineer because the machine stopped working!
One of our favorite things we used to do (before COVID) was let Sam check out every gumball machine in a mall for extra candy. Now, as COVID has made going to the mall and touch everything impossible, WHO IS CHECKING THE GUMBALL MACHINES? - 3/25/2021

High-functioning robots, self-driving vehicles, artificial intelligence, and many other astonishing technologies have — in the past few years — moved from science fiction into the mainstream economy. What will happen next? And what will these advances mean for job prospects, wages, and well-being, both in the US and around the world? MIT’s Andrew McAfee, coauthor of the 2014 bestseller "The Second Machine Age", will take on these questions. Amid this bounty will also be wrenching change. Professions of all kinds — from lawyers to truck drivers — will be forever upended. Companies will be forced to transform or die. Recent economic indicators reflect this shift: Fewer people are working and wages are falling even as productivity and profits soar.

A seagull at the South Street Seaport concludes that the camera is not food.
On a meta level, if I may: as I work this shot I'm thinking about the way we use our cameras to capture images of things we want, or love, or wish for - in this case, freedom and flight, the elusive state of nature. (I'm assuming here that we don't actually want to be seagulls. I know I don't.)
Adding a texture frame in processing binds the image to the machine, to my eye. To the technology. Makes it more a photographic image, and less a moment on a beautiful autumn afternoon. So: a machine that doesn't fly makes dreams of flying. This appeals to me.
