NOV 8, 2011 -- Elliott sends an email in the middle of a seminar. Students at Western Kentucky are constantly looking for time to finish tasks.
Now imagine Brennen outside with a 4 foot yagi over his head...
But seriously, our inverter blew up so we drove around looking for a power outlet. The Briggsdale public library was open for another 30 mintues and they had one power outlet in the ceiling of a reading room. We stretched out every cable we had to get power and still receive decode the messages from the radio using the computer.
Ok, it's really a MacBook Pro, I know. Old habits die hard. Anyway, I'd forgotten that a certain little girl had changed my desktop wallpaper - until I booted up whilst seated in the airport departure lounge. My attempt at trying to impress passers-by with my technology didn't quite go to plan..
nevermind the other clamp, i had to use that to keep the case shut for the photo
plastic covers on the clamp removed
My three year old macbook came up on lease at work so we traded them in for new 15" pros on Friday.
Dual GPU, 7200rpm HDs, anti-glare screens .... a sweet machine all around.
The office bought a new MacBook Pro today, and I got to play with it... and configure it for someone else.
The new 15" Macbook Pro. Reflected light off of some colored construction paper to give a warmer feel.

So today I decided to get a bit of work done in one of our libraries. I then thought I wanted to take a photo of me on my laptop. I wasn't carrying my gorillapod nor my tripod so I had to improvise with my UBC hoodie.
This proved more difficult than I imagined. I propped the camera on the hoodie and estimated where I was sitting. First time was a fail. My head was cut off (see photo #1). So I tried again. This time there was too much space above my head (see photo #2). The third time was a charm. I was soo happy with this photo, I didn't crop it at all, just some light adjustments.
Right now my Canon 50mm f/1.4 is broken so I'm using my 50mm f/1.8. What it has done is forced me to be more creative to understand its limitation, to know that the picture won't look as nice without me helping out and giving it lots of love.
Definitely having to use my original 50mm lens f/1.8 is the best thing to happen to me. I am also focused on natural lighting - leaving my biggie flash at home.
This is the retina MacBook Pro 15" I didn't keep. It was too big of a difference for me coming from a MacBook Air. Plus the screen had a little defect so I ended up returning it to Apple. They were exceptionally good about taking back the product and I am totally happy to be getting my MacBook Pro 13" after this.

Macbook Pro unboxing.
2008 15" Macbook Pro packaging on the left, 2003 iBook G4 on the right. The iBook's logic board does not work anymore; probably will recycle or sell for it parts.
A partir de la semana pasada en el “Apple Keynote”, Cupertino ha respondido a la convocatoria de una actualización del MacBook Pro, dando al buque insignia (MacBook Pro), una transformación tanto en el exterior, como en el interior... Continúa leyendo
I've been spending some time running apps on both of these new Apple notebooks, to see how far apart they really are in terms of performance.
Jonathan Ive is very proud of this feature: when the sleep light is off, it looks like solid metal, but when the sleep light is on, it shines through very small laser-cut holes in the case, thus cleverly avoiding the need to mar the case with an unsightly gash. Shame that this happens RIGHT NEXT TO THE UNSIGHTLY IR RECEIVER GASH EH? GEEZ.
