I got my new MacBook Pro this weekend and love it. It was hard to see my old iMac and MacBook go, but having just one computer at home is really, really nice.

Also, this sticker is hilarious. They stuck it on my box after I said I'd like to just have my receipt emailed to me. Leave it to Apple to make a clever security sticker.

Blogged here.

More of the same. The new thing is a Final Cut Pro HDV 1080i60 render. Final Cut Pro is not universal yet, but just the render? That sounds pretty contrived to me too. Could be the crappy memory bandwidth of the G4 for all I know.

Where is the Photoshop benchmark? Where are the other tasks in Final Cut Pro? Motion? Aperture? MacOffice? and other Pro apps that haven’t been ported?

The strange thing here is the floating point delta is larger than the integer one. Anyone know why? Maybe the extra core doesn't benefit this mark, I seem to remember something about Apple turning of hyperthreading in their Intel v. G5 SPECint marks a couple years back because it slowed SPECint down. Related? If so, it shows why contrived marks like this are full of shit.

(Not that I don’t think the MacBook Pro is a fast computer, or has the potential to be much faster than a G4 Powerbook here. But let us remember that I am typing this on a 1.5Ghz Powerbook that is one and a half years old. Today’s fastest Powerbooks are 1.67Ghz—a whole 10% faster. It’s easy to blow away a computer that sits at least a Moore's Law doubling behind you.)

But for the low quality, this shot would have gone far.

I installed the Power Support Anti-Glare film on my Macbook Pro.

Installation was a pain. I cleaned the screen four times, used an air can to clean it again, and I still wasn't happy with the results, so I went and got a totally new microfiber wipe from an iMac box. Using the brand new clean wipe worked very well.

But even then, when applying I had one big dust speck, maybe even a dead skin flake from me, end up right in the middle of the screen causing an air bubble. I got a piece of tape and VERY CAREFULLY removed it. Overall it was a difficult install.

The results are very, very nice. The screen is almost exactly like a Powerbook G4 screen. The screen is slightly fuzzier and the colors are a bit muted from the normal glossy look. I'm sure some people won't like that but I'm very happy with it.

We work very hard to ensure all of our Macbook Pro liquid damage battery repair procedures are completed using original or high quality parts.

MacBook Pro Working and Sleeping. How cute is that? :-)

Ordered one of these for my Macbook Pro and put in a 500 gig Seagate Momentus 7200.4, the fastest 500 gig drive I could find. I wanted to have Time Machine with me all the time without carrying around a USB drive, and to put my video podcasts on a separate drive for speed. After I install Snow Leopard (using my current external Time Machine drive) I'll pull out the internal DVD drive and replace it with this hard drive. I almost never use the DVD drive anyway, and I've got an external DVD burner.

Here are the results of a benchmark I ran on the MBP after installing Windows XP using BootCamp. It runs pretty good.

FEM analysis at 3am, ALGOR FEA+RHINO. Geeking off this hour is not a good sign.

This is sacrilegious but i must say windows 7 on a MacBook Pro IS REALLY NAIS. 64bit analysis software runs like a charm after you get the mac Bootcamp drivers updated.

You can see that the desktop pc behind is lagging, that's only on xp 32 bit :P

now if only they made FEM analysis easy on the mac osx

Very excited!

Guess what I'd rather not be doing right now. Apparently I was a tad on the overspecific side when I named my computer CoffeeIsBad.

What a great way to end a 36-hour workday while on vacation.

Macbook Pro 13" 2011

I have been using my MacBookPro as my only production machine at work for about 3 weeks now and love it. I just plug it in to a 20" monitor in the mornings and unplug and take it with me in the evenings.

my first apple notebook ... i love it!

What you don't want to see from your Macbook [Pro].

Worked fine earlier today - I switch it off, do my housework, and then find that it can't find its hard drive any longer. Hopefully the drive itself is fine, as I have data I need to get off here.... :/

How can I fix it? (I fear that taking it to Apple means saying bye bye to my data)

My MacBookPro has been on the fritz- without notice, and under varying circumstances, the keyboard and trackpad go dead. Sometimes it comes back after a while.

It's internal, because my USB wireless mouse (right) and Apple bluetooth keyboard work as they should (the wireless keyboard is lovely to use).

I'm lucky that I am due for a refresh and a new one has been ordered (when repaired this will be a backup machine).

Until then, I am running with extra keyboard and mouse in reach
