Coming soon.
So what have I been doing with my time recently? Making new images to go with a few old favorites for a full color, 12 month, 2010 calendar. Just in case you haven't gotten your fill of tentacles...
I have a few more images to finish and I'm still deciding on where to get them printed, but stay tuned for additional information!

Change is a matter of life and a matter of sanity. For the last few years I have felt very comfortable and suddenly I am in a new environment, unaware of the positivity that this could actually bring. So to help me adjust I am going to start expressing this through photos again. It hit me hard that this change has taken over in a negative way and we don't want that do we?
Nahhhh.
Now here's to a fresh start and getting myself back on track.
ORLANDO, Fla. – Dozens of Soldiers from the 143d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) joined members of veteran services organizations to honor the families of fallen heroes during the 6th Annual Operation: Love Letters event conducted March 24, 2018, at St. John Vianney Catholic School in Orlando.
Hosted by the Orlando Survivor Outreach Services, a U.S. Army community support program dedicated to helping families cope with grief from losing loved ones who have served their country. Operation: Love Letters provides a forum of fellowship for family members to share their memories of the deceased through food, games, music, arts and crafts. Conceived in Orlando in 2013, this local activity has transformed into a U.S. Army sponsored flagship program for the entire nation with international reach.
The event commenced with full military honors as the 143d ESC’s color guard and the Patriot Riders Guard led the opening ceremony in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Star-Spangled Banner. The color guard then set up a Fallen Comrade table and conducted a “13 Folds” ceremony to honor all American service members who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Miles Espaillat, the youngest of three sons of Maj. Gen. Francisco Espaillat, lit the candle on the Fallen Comrade Table. Espaillat’s father served as the commanding general of the 143d ESC from 2014-2016. He died of a heart attack April 7, 2017, while serving as general officer for the Office of the Chief of the Army Reserve.
After the opening ceremony, the family members shared their most cherished memories of their son, daughter, parent or spouse. Some brought framed photos while others baked their loved ones’ favorite dessert. The 143d ESC Soldiers joined several family members in creating crafts and writing love letters.
Representatives from the USO, Veterans Affairs, Operation Military Matters and the Orlando Vet Center also attended the festivities to share the many free resources such as grief counseling, care packages, and financial assistance tailored to families coping with the loss of a loved one.
Operation: Love Letters concluded with its most cherished tradition as Soldiers, families and volunteers gathered at the school’s courtyard to release dozens of balloons with messages addressed to their fallen heroes.

This is a shot of my mother and brother at the Leaning Tower of Pisa taken in 2012 on our family trip. Going back through photos it's really nice to think about what actually matters. Being able to do what you love with who you love is a gift.
Have a good weekend.

This photo depicts "Black Lives Matter in Hawaii" stickers being sold not only to show support for the movement, but also to take action by pledging to donate the profits to a BLM organization. The photo was taken at a nearby cafe (15 minute drive) called "Coffee Talk". It was so encouraging to see local businesses show their support and stance towards the BLM movement. The topic of Black Lives Matter comes up quite frequently in my immediate community, especially since my church has done sermons series and led discussions on racial reconciliation and justice + mercy. However, I do feel as if there could and should be more intimate and transparent conversations. This is not simply a topic that will die down and eventually disintegrate.

Secretary Landgraf and Public Health Director Dr. Karyl Rattay were joined by state Sen. Bruce Ennis and Reps. Ruth Briggs-King, Dave Wilson and Harvey Kenton in recognizing the 20th anniversary of Delaware’s Statewide Trauma System. “No matter where in Delaware someone suffers a traumatic injury, they enter into the same system of care,” Secretary Landgraf said. “We are only a handful of states to have an inclusive statewide trauma system.”
Dr. Rattay said the state’s trauma system is credited with saving 1,319 lives and caring for 101,000 seriously injured people since 2000, an almost 50 percent decrease in the mortality rate in that time. The Delaware mortality rate is now consistently lower than the national rate reported by the federal National Trauma Data Bank.
Fourteen individuals who have 20 years of continuous service to the trauma system were honored at the ceremony in the House chambers at Legislative Hall:
•Edward L. Alexander III, MD, FACS of Bayhealth Kent General Hospital
•Marilynn K. Bartley, MSN, RN of Christiana Care Health System
•Steven Blessing, MA, Chief, EMS and Preparedness Section, DPH
•Steven D. Carey, MD, FACS of Nanticoke Memorial Hospital
•Dean Dobbert, MD, FACEP, Kent County EMS Medical Director
•Deborah Eberly, BSN, RN, CEN, CNML of Bayhealth
•Gerard J. Fulda, MD,FACS of Christiana Care Health System
•Linda Laskowski Jones, MS, APRN, ACNS-BC, CEN, FAWM, FAAN of Christiana Care Health System
•MarySue Jones, RN, MS, State Trauma System Coordinator, OEMS, DPH
•James P. Marvel, Jr., MD, FACS of Beebe Healthcare
•Ross E. Megargel, DO, FACEP, State EMS Medical Director
•Stephen G. Murphy, MD, FACS of Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children
•Lawrence E. Tan, Esq., NRP, Chief of Emergency Medical Services, New Castle County
•Glen H. Tinkoff, MD, FACS of Christiana Care Health System
Sen. Ennis, who advocated for and helped to push through the enabling legislation, read a joint resolution recognizing the trauma system’s anniversary. Rep. Kenton in honoring Sen. Ennis’ role in creating the trauma system said, “We’ll never know, Senator, how many lives you saved.” Rep. Briggs-King in praising the statewide system of care said, “For a small state, you’ve made a huge statement.”
Trauma survivor Melanie Pertain shared how the system helped her and her family after they were involved in a serious motor vehicle crash on Concord Pike in 2013. “I received tremendous care in the ER and then the OR after we were transported to Christiana Hospital,” said Pertain, who spent two weeks in the surgical ICU after suffering a traumatic brain injury and other injuries in the accident. “My new mantra is ‘Be grateful, not hateful.’”
