The idea of this work appears in my mind when my brain was melting and evaporating under the strong sun of South India. Being there for the 5th time suddenly i caught myself thinking about changes, which have taken place in such wild and distant from civilization regions. Later i`ve heard locals talking about abnormal heat and lack of rains during recent monsoon. This also reminded me the man from Kashmir, complained about the cold snaps in the Northern India, while we drank chai on the street of Delhi. Later i remembered how we were lucky to enjoy the coldest winter in Florida ever, during the mural project in Gainesville, expecting to warm up after cold NYC. So now im sure that climate change is a fact.

ART MATters

Gorilla Yogis + SooVac join forces for a yoga-mat art contest

Join us at SooVAC June 4th starting at 6pm!

Art and asanas combine on June 4th at the new SooVac space at 2638 Lyndale Avenue S., Minneapolis. Gorilla Yogis are joining forces with Soo Visual Arts for a very special exhibit, yoga paired with artful yoga mats.

It starts outdoors, where the Gorillas will lead the practice in Soo’s parking lot with musical styling of DJ Sheik—in the highly visible intersection of 27th and Lyndale Ave South.

Inside the brand new and re-envisioned space, Soo is sponsoring what may be the first of its kind—original art on yoga mat creations. Artists include Isaac Arvold, Peter Bekke at Burlesque North America, Erin Currie, Tara Costello, Jennifer Davis, Bethany Kalk, Mousesaw, Terrence Payne, Amy Rice and Sean Tubridy.

Attendees will vote on their favorite designs, and the winner will be put into production by SooVAC + Gorillas. In addition, there will be a drawing for each mat, with proceeds partially benefiting SooVAC, a non-profit gallery that is devoted to emerging artists.

I cycled up to London to see a friend in Charlton, then back into the centre to try out my new lens at the Tate / Millennium Bridge. I planned to go to the Black Lives Matter protest, but heard it was off due to the threats from the far-right and football ‘firms’, as they planned to protect statues. Whilst I didn’t see it, I heard they stood by Churchill’s entombed statue and gave nazi salutes - you can’t argue with ignorance like that. Anyway, I made my way to Trafalgar Sq. and was met with police lining the streets and closing the road. They sent me on my way and after the third blockade, I found that they would let people through from Charing Cross Road, by St. Martin’s in the Fields. I asked a policeman if it was okay to go through, it was, so long as I didn’t mind being kept there. I didn’t know what protest was taking place at that point, so was very relieved to find the Black Lives Matter protest, albeit, somewhat smaller as they’d moved the official protest forward to Friday. The police were right, I did get held in while they organised the move of the protest. It got a little tense, as persistent members of the far right were being turned away by police. The horses moved in, I moved up the steps of the church with my camera and bike and an explosive went off, from where I do not know, but didn’t seem to add to the tension. Then wave by wave, the police lines moved the protest on to Leicester Square with no further trouble. I left them there and headed to China town for more pictures, then cycled home. All in all, I was happy to be on the BLM side of the dividing line and next time I’ll leave my bike at home and join them properly.

Gender Equality

14:00 - 16:00, Event Room 1, Level 2, EBRD Headquarters

Why it Matters?

In this 25th anniversary year of the EBRD and the year of the introduction of the Bank’s first gender strategy, this discussion looked at how gender equality has fared over the past 25 years in the EBRD’s countries of operations, and what still needs to be done to achieve more in the next 25 years. Why is progress on this issue so important? What policies are needed? What can be done at the corporate level to ensure improved opportunities and equality for women and men?

The discussion was followed by a ceremony to present the Awards for the Promotion of Gender Equality.

Agenda:

One hundred and forty-six years ago, one of America's greatest presidents established Thanksgiving amidst a national crisis; civil war. No matter our own crisis; economic, emotional, sickness or personal, Abraham Lincoln's thoughts still apply. Comfort, peace and rest are found when we surrender to the Almighty God and thank Him regardless of our circumstances. I am thankful to Abraham Lincoln for establishing this day as a reminder that every day I need to be thankful to God for all He has done.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Proclamation Establishing Thanksgiving Day

October 3, 1863

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequalled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle, or the ship; the axe had enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years, with large increase of freedom.

No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.

It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and voice by the whole American people. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the city of Washington, this third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the independence of the United States the eighty-eighth.

Though the Tesco Roundabout in Ilkeston is a busy hub-junction of the Manor , Heanor , Awsworth , Lord Haddon , Bath Street and Chalons Way roads , it can sometimes seem attractive - as the above sunlit scene might suggest .

However , whether its motorist users can ever appreciate its potential beauty is

very much another matter .

I'm musing today on gratitude over at Mortal Muses. I'd love to hear what you think.

I'm still working on the secret code in this protest sign. I'll let you know when I crack it.
