These mason bees take advantage of existing holes drilled in trees to deposit their eggs in chambers, each walled from the next with a wall of mud, and each provisioned with a supply of pollen. These logs include empty holes, partially-filled holes, and finished holes (sealed shut with a protective daub of masonry).

The Mason descendant who spearheaded the preservation was my great-grandfather's brother, Stuart, who knew the cemetery existed even though the owner of the property it's on denied that anybody was buried there. So, to prove it, Stuart went over and dug up some human bones.
