Thanks to Culinary Fool I learned this little bee is a type of bumble bee, and thanks to A Cup of Green Tea, I learned it is a of the Mason Bee variety. the flower it is working on is no more than an inch in diameter, and is a low growing ground cover.

Mason's First Scout Campout

The very top of Mason Bay is about a 30 minute scramble over boulders to a point before you get onto sand. This is the point that needs avoiding at high tide. At this stage, it was 3 1/2 hours from high tide.

Mason Alexander Chancellor

This is my new nephew

Mason bee cocoons in a hollow plant stem. The front entry end was on the left. Each cocoon holds a sleeping bee. Thin mud walls separates each cell / cocoon, hence the name Mason Bee.

The mason who produced this stone block in the early 1800s marked it as a signature.
