Lovely to see these back in the garden for the season.
A Masked Lapwing at Seletar Country Club.
Note: The Masked Lapwing is not a native of Singapore. It's a native of the northern and eastern parts of Australia, New Zealand and New Guinea. These are escapees which have successfully established a feral colony in certain parts of Singapore.

This photograph showcases the Masked Tityra (Tityra semifasciata), taken in San Pablo de Borbur, Boyacá, Colombia. The bird’s striking black mask and bright red eye-ring stand out against its pale body, offering a sharp contrast against the rich greenery of the forest background. I captured this moment with a Canon camera at ISO 800, 1/125 second, and f/16, balancing the low-light conditions while maintaining clarity in the bird's plumage and environment.
From a technical perspective, the lighting was diffused through the forest canopy, creating a soft, natural feel. The decision to shoot at f/16 ensured that the bird’s features were sharp while keeping enough depth of field to subtly reveal the texture of the background foliage. This image emphasizes the importance of precision in bird photography, where timing and technical settings play a crucial role in highlighting the beauty of a species.

Vanellus miles
The vocal, noticeable and unmistakeable Lapwing of north and eastern Australia.
This is the northern subspecies with the larger facial wattles.
Masked Lapwing parent sitting on 2 of 3 chicks.
Vanellus novaehollandiae.
The original Babysitting (as one of the 5year olds said). The Plover's wing spurs are clearly visible: you don't want to be dive-bombed by an angry Plover!
The Plover family set up 'home' in my work's carpark. At the beginning and end of the day they spend their time aggressively defending their three chicks from children, parents and cars! Traffic cones are in place to try and protect them but the chicks are starting to wander so my very brave boss relocated the 3 chicks to a grassy strip beside the building. The parents complained loudly and swooped but have accepted the move.

Masked Lapwing at Stanwell Park NSW Australia.
Taken in 2014 when I first started doing Photography sort of seriously, I took lots of bird shots, I don't know why, as I don't have much interest in taking photo's of birds anymore.
I have a new website which I have just finished building, well the basics anyway. A shop is in the near future. I hope you take the time to have a quick squiz. It is sort of the same as the other one, but a little different, I stayed with the same theme as I really like it, and well, I am not really in the mood for a steep learning curve with a different theme. The link is below.

Having more time at home has allowed me to go back and review photos from past trips that I hadn’t had time to go through before now. These Red-masked Parakeets were from a park in Lima on the first day of a trip to Peru back in 2010. They preened each other for quite some time allowing for some nice photographic opportunities. It’s pretty easy to anthropomorphize these two and it’s difficult to think that there isn’t any emotional connection between these two.

Out of Ecuador. This cute little guy seems to be showing off his Yoga moves, what balance. He is aa Masked Flowerpierce. They were named flowerpiercer because they pierce the bottom of the flower to get to the nectar.

These birds always look grumpy, not one you want to be swooped by! They have absolutely adorable babies though.
