The Australian masked owl is a barn owl of Southern New Guinea and the non-desert areas of Australia.

I was outside doing yard work and walked past the old shed and saw Mama raccoon watching me from within the shed. I thought it was funny that it was reversed and she was inside and I was outside. I liked how it came out with the reflection of the trees in the window.

Maybe once, we will ask ourself why people where masked in the street. Maybe once, Covid19 will be a story like 'Spanish Flu' in 1918.

From 1918 to 1919, a particularly virulent and contagious influenza virus called "Spanish flu" broke out in the United States, then in Europe, before spreading to all continents. Contrary to the name attributed to it, Spain is not, however, at the origin of the Spanish flu. The virus was named so because at that time Spain, which was not engaged in World War I, was not subject to censorship. Unlike her neighbors who seek to hide their dead, she freely and publicly publishes information about this disease, hence the name "Spanish flu". A real human and health disaster, the Spanish flu will last two years. More deadly than the Black Death of the 14th century, the Spanish flu claimed two to five times as many victims as the First World War which took place at the same time...

Happy Fence Friday and wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!!

A fly mask is a piece of gear used on horses heads to cover the eyes, jaw, and sometimes the ears and muzzle to protect them from flies and other biting insects. Fly masks can also provide UV protection to the face and eyes of a horse and there are even fly masks that are treated with insect-repellents.

Masked Flowerpiercer is a striking and easily recognized bird, characterized by its largely ultramarine plumage with a contrasting and rather large black facial mask and bright red irides. Masked Flowerpiercer usually is considered to be resident, but there are suggestions that it makes seasonal altitudinal movements or migrations, at least in parts of its range. This species is omnivorous, consuming fruit, nectar, and insects. Despite being widespread and common, shockingly little is known about the breeding biology of Masked Flowerpiercer. Picture taken at Quito, Ecuador.
