I went and checked on three chicks I'd spotted 3 weeks ago. There was only one left - much bigger but still covered in down.

For some, these Masked Ducks were extremely cooperative, coming very close out in the open. I went looking for them twice one day. The first time they were 100+m away. You could barely see them with a spotting scope! The seond time, there were about 80 away I was using all the telephoto length I had (=1,120mm film equivalent) and this photo is a crop of about have the photo. One or a pair of Masked Ducks that had been hanging out for weeks at Laguna Atascosa NWR, Texas.

While riding the bike trail to work I noticed over a dozen dead shrews littering the path. All probably killed by one feral/pet cat and left in perfect condition.
