Native Masked Bee (Hylaeus Rhodohylaeus) male

It is the time of year when we see a few of these Masked Bees in the garden. This fellow took a brief rest on the Jade plant today so I was able to get a couple of shots,

Happy Saturday everyone!

Mount Molloy, Australia-1806

A raccoon in the early morning darkness of the forest.

Thank you for viewing.

How much things have changed over the past 7 months, right? I think 2020 will be a year that will never be forgoten due to this ongoing pandemic. Pretty much all aspects of modern life have been affected. From little every day things like going out all the way to dining to restaurants, working and traveling. So as a person that tries to capture every day moments I need to have some shots that show that. A walk around Newburyport's river front was a very good opportunity on that Sunday morning. Lots of people enjoying the good weather and going out while taking all the appropriate measures (wearing masks and practicing social distancing). It's the pandemic times.. Thank you all for viewing and for commenting. Happy new week!

These Masked Cardinals were putting on a nice show in the mangrove forest at Caroni Swamp in Trinidad during our visit earlier this month. They were some of the first birds we saw upon arrival and served as a nice welcoming committee.

We will be doing this trip again in spring of 2019, if you think you might be interested more information is available here: www.texastargetbirds.com/group-photo-trips/2019-trinidad/

Tityra semifasciata

Mount Molloy, Australia-1805

[Ecuador 2021] The female is brown instead of the male's green; both have red bellies. Tandayapa.

From Wiki: Tityridae is family of suboscine passerine birds found in forest and woodland in the Neotropics. The 45 species in this family were formerly spread over the families Tyrannidae, Pipridae and Cotingidae (Flycatchers, lmakekins, contimngas). As yet, no widely accepted common name exists for the family, although tityras and allies and tityras, mourners and allies have been used. They are small to medium-sized birds. Under current classification, the family ranges in size from the buff-throated purpletuft, at 9.5 cm (3.7 in) and 10 grams (0.35 ounces), to the masked tityra, at up to 24 cm (9.5 in) and 88 grams (3.1 ounces). Most have relatively short tails and large heads.

Cyclochila australasiae - Blue Mountains, Australia

These beauties spend a number of years underground and then only have a few weeks to live above ground.

The males flex their "tymbals" (organs in their abdomens) to attract a mate.

This is a bumper year for Masked Devils - on my bushwalks (the Australian term for hiking) I have seen them whizzing through the air and landing in a nearby bush or at the ground near my feet.

The noise was earsplitting as I tried to take this photo.

Common Yellowthroat (Geothlypis trichas)

Roque Bluffs State Park, Maine, U.S.A.

Common yellowthroat hops in and out of the bushes.

Found someone's den. He is pretty friendly and that is a problem. There are a lot of people at this park and a lot of parties with small kids. Because people who think that the Racoon can't survive on his own feel the need to feed he, he has become fearless of humans. There are signs everywhere that say don't feed the animals. But people just don't listen.

Female Southern Masked Weaver or “African masked weaver”, Chobe District - Botswana

The Southern Masked weaver is 11-14.5 cm long and it is found in open savannah and gardens throughout southern Africa.

The male Southern Masked Weaver build a nest and try to attract a female to the nest. When the female accepts the nest, she will line the nest with feathers, grass and leaves. The female Southern Masked Weaver lays between 2 and 4 eggs and the chicks hatch after 12 to 14 days.
