This is the gift that was just a tiny bit too big for MM. A gorgeous little red elephant which I believe my friend brought from a trip to India. Another gift from a neighbour, a little pot of 4 leaf clover. I picked one to give to the elephant to hold, it seems to carry it with joy!

I've always had good luck when it comes to light at Badlands National Park. This morning I remember driving into the park about an hour before sunrise and trying several different locations before settling at the yellow mounds area. This is actually looking west but the clouds looked really nice, framing the distant hills along with the natural pastel colors of the foreground mounds.

As the weather today returned to normal spring weather, a bit below normal actually, I rewatched "The Joy Luck Club". (I’ve read the book, too.) And it hit me just like the first time I saw it. I was sobbing by the end. Big, deep, almost hyperventilating, sobs. At the theatre this made my then boyfriend and his mother nervous and embarrassed. And had them asking why should this affect me so? Adding, "You’re not Chinese." Geez. Really?! I could relate to so many of the issues between the mothers and daughters. The assumptions. The misunderstandings. The inability to speak their truths. The wanting what is best for your daughter, but going about it all the wrong way. That is universal.

Bon Bon actually became quite alarmed and crawled into my lap and put her forehead to mine and stayed there for the longest time. She licked the tears off my cheeks.

Here’s to Sundays and good cries.💙

After living more than four years in Charleston, SC, privileged to have shot for the first time, Palmetto Railway running the street at N. Charleston from Navy Yard to one of the customers. There is no fixed timing for this movement and even the long term local train spotters have barely able to catch this train.

This is a four-leaf clover that I dried about 30 years ago and then sealed in plastic. I carry it in my wallet as a lucky charm. A little luck never hurts.

Luck's corner shop was built in 1937. This was owned by a butcher for many years. It is now the site of a popular restaurant, "The Black Cow". Naturally the restaurant specialises in steaks.

The many beautiful cascades in the Fjords of New Zealand. We lucked out with beautiful weather on our days in both Doubtful and Milford Sounds!

This image is not my preferred one of the Rock Ptarmigan, but it is a bit special to me. My husband and I had spent most of the evening looking for them and did not have much luck. We got back at the hotel just before midnight and my husband spotted the bird perched in the distant surrounding hills. I was quite tired and thought what are the chances I can sneak up on this bird hauling my 600 mm +1.4x up the hill ... And have the bird waiting for me?

I don't know if the bird was just hyptnotised by the beauty of the night, just like I was but the bird, did not fly away... Not my preferred picture of the Icelandic trip but quite a magic moment.

No luck with the freight trains at the right times.

A pronghorn buck decided to cross a dirt road as we watched nearby from our car.

The FEC started a new train tonight, train 117. As luck would have it, the two Susan G. Koman GP's were on the point. With the sun almost gone, I broke out the lights and nabbed this.

I just couldn't believe my luck today, when I lifted a sheet of tin next to the car bonnet and this brick red snake was under it. It was a mere two days after finding that stunning orange Copperhead not more than 2 metres away! Portrait of a stupendous, adult male, red phase Lowland Copperhead (Austrelaps superbus) found thermoregulating under cover at lunchtime today. The weather conditions were mild, with full cloud cover and 19 deg. C. at that time. The sheet of tin he was under has been strategically placed to attract such beauties right near the front door, and it did not disappoint. I had not yet been acquainted with him prior to this meeting, so we got to know each other a little better over a quick photo shoot before he was returned to his tin palace. I really love how the coal-coloured interstitial skin is offsetting those raised, plate-like, scarlet red scales. What a glamourous pair of neighbours I've got!! I'm so lucky!

(101/366) I brought back 2 more stones from the Hook peninsula in Wexford to add to my collection of "lucky stones" on the mantelpiece (the flat yellow one left of centre & the purple one behind it). I've 24 in total now, all from beaches in Ireland. They don't seem to be bringing me much good luck lately but hopefully that will change soon & a new buyer for our house will come along. Record crowds lined the streets of Manchester to celebrate Chinese New Year and watch the city's famous Dragon Parade in what has been described as the busiest year yet. A huge 175ft long dragon, dancing lions and traditional Geisha artists were among the hundreds of participants in the parade through the city centre.

They were watched by thousands of people who crammed along Oxford Street, Portland Street and through China Town which were all closed to traffic for the celebration on Sunday. Naturally it was the dragon dancers - formed of two parts - that drew the biggest gasps from the hundreds of youngsters lining the streets with their families.

The dragons swept over and around the crowds chasing the "Pearl of Wisdom" - a large globe on a pole which is symbolic of the dragon chasing wisdom and knowledge. Manchester's civic dignitaries earlier bestowed the dragon with red ribbons to usher in good fortune.

2024 is the Lunar Year of the Dragon - which is a symbol of good luck, health and strength in Chinese culture. The reason why dragon dances are performed at the start of the Lunar New Year is because they are believed to chase away evil spirits and welcome in prosperous times.

City centre spokesman Pat Karney hailed it a "record year" for Chinese New Year celebrations saying: "The best ever Chinese New Year Celebrations. Record crowds have been treated to a feast of dance and musical performances and the Dragon had kids in absolute awe."

I know.. I know... "CK, NOT ANOTHER PINHOLE IMAGE!"

I'll try and take a shot of the actually camera. But this is the tin I used:

Handholding at bird shot with a 600mm lens at 1/160th is a recipe for disappointment. Luckily in this case both the the goldfinch and I remained still enough to capture this in dawn light at Bombay Hook NWR in Delaware
