The end of season in this small town at Lake Constance in October seems to be symptomatically for Germany right now: The lockdown will be necessary to fight against COVID19.

It's a tongue-in-cheek self portrait. Lockdown has not been so bad for me. I'm semi retired so have time to sit and listen to music, read books, write, daydream and think. I'm a lucky man but possessions are not everything in life. Recent restrictions have had an effect on us all. I suppose I have the advantage of being deep down an introvert, happy with my own company if needs dictate. Others are perhaps not so fortunate.

This morning, a little downcast at the prospect of at least a further three weeks of lockdown, I discovered the seasons first camellia blooms. Soft and delicate in form, with a subtle fragrance, my day took a turn for the better.
Due to coronavirus emergency. kindergarten and schools were closed in Italy on March, 5. Since then, Marina could not play with other kids. She has spent almost every day at home, playing alone or with mum and dad.
It is hard for a little kid. It is really hard.
I am currently in lockdown and photographic subjects are limited. The trusty kookaburra however still comes to visit me.

Mmmm... Freshly-baked rye bread with home-made peanut butter... I can handle a lockdown!
After several abortive and unsuccessful attempts at trying to capture Sirius, the brightest star in the sky, which twinkles many colours, I tried something else.
I put the Intervalometer on to take an image every second, so as to capture it moving across the frame. This sort of worked but the lines of images looked really boring, so I repeated the process, but this time jumped up and down on the deck to cause camera shake. This resulted in loads of just blurry and unusable shots, but also many usable ones, and it did make the star jump around the frame. Bolted together several passes of the star, eliminated the blurred camera shake shots and this is the result.
To me, the resultant image looks quite organic, like a molecule or DNA, or maybe I have been hitting the lockdown wine bottle a little too heavily.
So continuing my adventures into astrophotography and specifically "deep sky" with this view of the Andromeda Galaxy M31. This is a massive step up from my first attempt to capture our close neighbour (its only 2.537 million light years away!). Also in view are M32 and M110 dwarf galaxies.
Not ideal conditions with a first quarter moon and moderate light polution. Looking forward to a new moon next time maybe. So grateful for all those youtube videos on set up and editing. They are invaluable to a newbie like me.

Imaged with the William Optics RedCat 51 and an unmodified Canon 5D MKIII. 1 hour 36 minutes total exposure time with 64 light frames and 45 dark frames @ 90 seconds, f4.9 and is800. Stacked in Starry Sky Stacker and edited with Photoshop and Lightroom.

During the full lockdown we were only allowed our for the 1 hour while taking excercise, hence it was important to get out from time to time. On this night I took the dog out heading into sunset with camera and tripod. Wow, was it worth it!.
Horsham in full lockdown was as pretty as I have ever seen it at dusk, but... most importantly No Vehicles to clone out. No noise.
Moments that I will not forget in a long time, for all the reasons.
How we want this nightmare to end...
