Le Colorado provençal à Rustrel est probablement l'un des plus beaux sites touristiques du Luberon en Provence.
Il s'étend sur plus de 30 hectares. Ses sentiers en terre permettent de découvrir des falaises érodées comprenant plus de 20 teintes d'ocre. Le « cirque de Barriès », le « cirque de Bouvène », les bassins de décantation, les cheminées de fée, le « Sahara », les tunnels, le lit de la Dôa (la petite rivière locale) offrent des décors variés aux randonneurs. Le chemin de grande randonnée GR 6 traverse le site.

The most spectacular of ochre sites is nicknamed “the Colorado Provençal”. The unexpected Colorado of Rustrel ranks among Provence’s most beautiful attractions. Situated on one of the largest ochre quarries in the world, the Colorado of Rustrel was, at one time, one of the best known producers of ochre in France. Today, the hues and the strange looking shapes of the outcrops, shaped by centuries of exposure to the elements, are simply breathtaking.

Eine Welt in Ocker..Ein prächtiger, farbenfroher Rundwanderweg führt durch die Ockerbrüche bei Rustrel im regionalen Naturpark Luberon.Der Naturpark Luberon in der südfranzösischen Region Provence hat gleich zwei Ockersteinbrüche zu bieten: die Brüche von Roussillon und die von Rustrel. Erstere sind die berühmtesten, letztere sind allerdings die größeren und, auch die imposantesten.
Die verschiedenen Teile der Ockerbrüche mit immer wieder wechselnden Farben und mit klangvollen Namen wie "Cheminées-des-Fées" oder "Sahara" verzaubern.
Nach Besichtigung dieses prachtcvollen Ortes erscheint die Welt
...farblos! Schon einmal habe ich diesen faszinierenden Ort besucht.

Cette perdrix est essentiellement aujourd'hui trouvée sur des milieux ouverts, le plus souvent des terres agricoles d'Europe occidentale et d'Asie. Elle était autrefois largement présente en Amérique du Nord et est encore commune dans certaines régions du sud du Canada et du nord des États-Unis. Les femelles peuvent pondre jusqu'à vingt œufs dans un nid construit au sol, souvent en marge d'un champ de céréales, et plus communément de blé d'hiver en Amérique du Nord. Comme beaucoup d'espèces appartenant à cette famille, c'est un oiseau non migrateur (sédentaire) terrestre, qui vit en petites bandes, sauf en saison de reproduction. Elle peut effectuer de petites migrations locales pour fuir une météorologie difficile avant de regagner son habitat.

This partridge is today mainly found in open areas, mostly farmland in Western Europe and Asia. It was once widely present in North America and is still common in parts of southern Canada and the northern United States. Females can lay up to twenty eggs in a nest built on the ground, often on the fringes of a cereal field, and more commonly winter wheat in North America. Like many species in this family, it is a non-migratory (sedentary) terrestrial bird that lives in small bands, except during the breeding season. It can make small local migrations to escape a difficult weather before returning to its habitat.

La Roca de la Virgen, en francés Rocher de la Vierge es un arrecife rocoso de la costa atlántica francesa, coronado por una estatua blanca de la Virgen con el niño rodeado de agua. Se trata de uno de los monumentos más famosos de la localidad costera de Biarritz.
La estatua de la Virgen María se colocó en lo alto de un afloramiento rocoso en el mar en 1864 para conmemorar el regreso seguro de los pescadores locales y actuar como patrona para apoyarlos en el futuro.
Debido al especial cariño de la emperatriz Eugenia por el pintoresco antiguo pueblo de pescadores, la pareja imperial francesa se alojaba regularmente en el palacio de Biarritz (hoy Hôtel du Palais1), recién construido como residencia de verano. De Napoleón III. surgió la idea de conectar la Roca de la Virgen con el continente por medio de un puente. Gustave Eiffel implementó este plan en 1887 y creó un puente de hierro que se puede caminar sobre tablones de madera; además, se hizo un túnel por debajo de la roca.

Cai Rang Floating Market is one of the best known and most visited floating markets in the world. The African moon moth (Argema mimosae) is a giant silk moth of the Family Saturniidae. Similar in appearance to the giant Madagascan moon moth (Argema mittrei), but smaller, this moth can be found widely in Eastern Africa and more locally in Southern Africa, including near the east coast of South Africa. An adult can measure 10 to 12 centimetres (3.9 to 4.7 in) across its wingspan and 12 to 14 centimetres (4.7 to 5.5 in) from head to the tip of its elongated 'tail-like' second pair of wings. Its forward wings have a distinctive grey-coloured 'furry' leading edge, giving a very rough surface, presumably for aerodynamic reasons. Apart from the eye-like markings on its wings, the colouring and shape of the wings give the appearance of a piece of foliage, especially the 'tail-like' structures of the rearmost wings which resemble a dried out leaf stem - presumably for camouflage in its natural environment.

Le château de Vénus est un château normand du XIIe siècle construit sur une falaise isolée dans l'angle sud-est du sommet du mont Erice, dans la province de Trapani, construit sur les ruines d'un temple Elimo-Phénicien-Romain. Adjacent au château de Vénus, nous pouvons admirer les impressionnantes tours médiévales et le jardin du Balio. Auparavant, ces tours d'observation étaient reliées par un mur rideau à ce château.
Ce magnifique jardin entoure le château de Vénus et les tours du Balio, construit par les Normands.
Balio est le nom donné au site il y a bien longtemps, il a été utilisé comme résidence du Bajulo, de sa cour et de son escorte militaire. Le Bajulo était le magistrat qui a localement représenté l'autorité et le pouvoir au nom du roi.
Venus Castle is a 12th-century Norman castle built on a secluded cliff in the southeast corner of the summit of Mount Erice, in the province of Trapani, built on the ruins of an Elimo-Phoenician-Roman temple. Adjacent to the castle of Venus, we can admire the impressive medieval towers and the Balio garden. Previously, these observation towers were connected by a curtain wall to this castle.
This magnificent garden surrounds the castle of Venus and the towers of the Balio, built by the Normans.
Balio is the name given to the site a long time ago, it was used as the residence of the Bajulo, his court and his military escort. The Bajulo was the magistrate who locally represented authority and power on behalf of the king.

These small tidewater patches don't freeze all winter long. They occur in drumlin- and esker-festooned tidal flats between Arviat and Whale Cove, west shore of Hudson Bay. This one is in a channel between bays that is being kept open by tidal currents.
I've been travelling over some half dozen scattered water patches in this locale for years and finally got lucky in 2019. It was a clear day with a crisp wind providing a visible icy plume blowing offshore from a black patch of open water. Mile-high west-facing aerial view.
Nous avons quité Saint Claude et passons rapidement par Morez que je découvrirais le lendemain car c'est une ville incroyablement marquée par un passé industriel fort et émouvant. Ici quelques shot sur les viaducs fusionnant aux parois des roches locales aux abords de la cité.

We left Saint Claude and had a quick look round Morez. We will go back there tomorrow. Its industrial background is amazingly strong and moving. Here are a few shots of viaducts hung to the local stones next to the town.
Un an après les inondations qui ont notamment touché la commune de Chaudfontaine, en province de Liège, les autorités locales ont souhaité rassembler, dans un souci de mémoire, celles et ceux qui ont été impactés par la catastrophe les 14, 15 et 16 juillet 2021. A cette occasion, la commune a organisé en juillet 2022 une cérémonie d'hommage dans le parc Hauster, lieu symbolique situé en bord de Vesdre qui fut fortement sinistré par les eaux.
Lors de l'événement de vendredi après-midi, une œuvre mémorielle, intitulée "La Cordée", et représentant la fraternité entre les êtres humains, a ainsi été inaugurée.
Au total, quatre personnes ont été retrouvées sans vie sur la commune de Chaudfontaine.
One year after the floods which notably affected the municipality of Chaudfontaine, in the province of Liège, the local authorities wished to bring together, for the sake of memory, those who were impacted by the disaster on July 14, 15 and 16, 2021. On this occasion, the municipality organized a tribute ceremony in July 2022 in Hauster Park, a symbolic place located on the banks of the Vesdre which was heavily damaged by the waters.
During the event on Friday afternoon, a memorial work, entitled "La Cordée", and representing the brotherhood between human beings, was thus inaugurated.
A total of four people were found dead in the town of Chaudfontaine.

Véritable système de douane locale, l'octroi fut une structure particulièrement importante pour les revenus communaux. Il servait notamment à financer l'entretien des fortifications et les travaux d'utilité publique.
Le terme "octroi" vient du verbe octroyer qui signifie accorder: la ville octroie l'entrée des marchandises en échange d'une taxe. Ces taxes, toujours mal acceptées furent supprimées définitivement à la fin de la seconde guerre mondiale. Ce bureau d'octroi servit par la suite de balance officielle à la commune. Elle permettait aux éleveurs et aux agriculteurs de peser et d'officialiser le poids de leur marchandise avant la vente.
Situé près du vieux pont, le local ainsi que son équipement de pesée ont été remis au goût du jour il y a peu.
The Grant of Terrasson
A true local customs system, the appropriation was a particularly important structure for municipal revenues. It was used in particular to finance the maintenance of fortifications and public utility works.
The term "grant" comes from the verb grant which means to grant: the city grants the entry of goods in exchange for a tax. These taxes, always poorly accepted, were definitively abolished at the end of the Second World War. This granting office subsequently served as the municipality's official balance sheet. It allowed breeders and farmers to weigh and formalize the weight of their merchandise before sale.
Located near the old bridge, the premises and its weighing equipment were recently brought up to date.

Je vois déjà des sourires illuminer les visages de certains ou l'horreur déformer les visages des puristes. Alors soyons clairs, l'appellation peut choquer certains mais le fromage est excellent ! On trouve aussi du brie et un bleu qui n'a rien à envier à notre bleu de Bresse !
I first edited this RAW/NEF image after the trip for this with Capture NX2 (www.flickr.com/photos/14723335@N05/15303561796/in/album-7...). Sadly Nikon has elected not to update what I consider a wonderful program that seamlessly integrated CEP 3.0. Anywho, I'm reading and slowly going through Jason Odell's book "Moving to Lightroom" and decided to use some of my favorite images with Lightroom...for practice. This is the end result...one at a favorite locale in Glacier National Park.
A picture I shot when life wasn't as crazy. This area in Portland features buildings of an earlier time. Portland is known for their love of a good book. Powell's Books is a well-known dealer for book addicts. But only Cameron's Books & Magazines gets to boast the title of oldest bookstore in town. Established in 1938.
This sunset of 15 minutes was one in flaming colors shining through the trees on one of my favourite spots nearby my home. Purmerland, Waterland, 2017.

La Avenida de los Baobabs o Callejón de los Baobabs, es un grupo notable de baobabs de la especie Adansonia grandidieri que bordean un camino de tierra entre Morondava y Belon'i Tsiribihina en la región de Menabe, al oeste de Madagascar. Su sorprendente paisaje atrae a viajeros de todo el mundo, lo que lo convierte en uno de los lugares más visitados de la región. Ha sido un centro de esfuerzos locales de conservación. The Avenue of the Baobabs, or Alley of the Baobabs, is a prominent group of Grandidier's baobabs (Adansonia grandidieri) lining the unpaved Road No.8 between Morondava and Belon'i Tsiribihina in the Menabe region of western Madagascar. Its striking landscape draws travelers from around the world, making it one of the most visited locations in the region. It has been a center of local conservation efforts, and was granted temporary protected status in July 2007 by the Ministry of Environment, Water and e Forestry – a step toward making it Madagascar's first natural monument.
Along a 260 m (850 ft) stretch of the road is a grove of 20–25 Adansonia grandidieri baobabs. An additional 25 or so trees of this species are found growing over nearby rice paddies and meadows within 9.9 acres (4 ha) of land. The trees, which are endemic to Madagascar, are about 30 m (98 ft) in height.
The baobab trees, known locally as renala or reniala (from Malagasy reny ala "mother of the forest") are a legacy of the dense tropical forests that once thrived on Madagascar. The trees did not originally tower in isolation over the sere landscape of scrub, but stood in dense forest. Over the years, as the country's population grew, the forests were cleared for agriculture, leaving only the baobab trees, which the locals preserved as much for their own sake as for their value as a food source and building material.
