Walking for exercise, from home, with camera in hand, capturing some passing moments.
So fortunate to be living near some fairly decent suburban countryside scenery within walking distance of home.
(Hexalectris warnockii). North-Central Texas.
This striking mycoheterotrophic orchid occurs in disjunct populations in the sky islands of Mexico, southeastern Arizona, and scattered locations in Texas. In the Lonestar State it has been documented in the mountains of the Trans-Pecos, in moist, shaded canyons in the Edward's Plateau, and under the shade of remnant oaks and junipers on the White Rock Escarpment in north-central Texas. The latter locale is where this plant was photographed.

Story
➖➖
According to a local tradition, a chapel with hermitage was founded in 1050 in the heart of the Bois de Bonlieu, a section of the former great Ardennes forest, by Louis II, Count of Chiny who, victim of a hunting accident, was treated by the parish priest of Rouvroy. Count Louis II de Chiny and his wife Sophie have been resting there for almost a millennium.
In 1796, the whole was demolished by decision of the revolutionary authorities.
The current chapel was built in 1943. It was not blessed until 1945 by Mgr André-Marie Charue, Bishop of Namur, the blessing initially planned for 1943 having been prohibited by the German authorities.

Taken along Catfish Lake Road, in the National Forest's Sheep Ridge Wilderness. This locale is about 10 mi (16 km) west-northwest of the town of Havelock.
This study in metallic blue and green in its somberest tones is my final shot devoted to pocosins, the Coastal Plain wetland-peatland ecosystem that so fascinated me on this visit.
Because all the roads in this wilderness are gravel, the concrete embankment at the bottom of the photo makes me think I was on a bridge over one of this area's internal streams. That would certainly account for the high proportion of open water surface. (Note its flow- or breeze-induced riffles.)
Once again, the lords of the scene are the Pond Pines (Pinus serotina) in the background. I wish I could be there now, identifying all those forb and shrub species in the foreground and the middle.
The other photos and descriptions of this series can be found in my Botany of the Carolinas Coastal Plain album.

Plaza Bolivar is filled with several restaurants and the monument statue of Simon Bolivar, the Venezuelan military leader and South American hero, who was instrumental in leading revolutions against the Spanish empire. It gets very little road traffic making it the perfect locale for cafes and eateries outfitted with large umbrellas on their patios for outside dining. The Iglesia San Francisco de Asis features one of the tallest structures in the plaza, with its towering bell tower. (from a website)

The locale of the meeting, a mountaintop about twenty miles east of Manila, was in an area still occupied by the Japs, and it was necessary for our party to make a two hour march over rugged terrain to reach the meeting place which was marked by a rising sun flag tied to a bamboo pole.

The Mohatta Palace was built in the posh seaside locale of Clifton by Shivratan Chandraratan Mohatta, a Hindu Marwari businessman in 1927, as his summer home.[However, Mohatta could enjoy this building for only about two decades before independence, after which he left Karachi for India. He built the Palace in the tradition of stone palaces in Rajasthan, using pink Jodhpur stone in combination with the local yellow stone from Gizri.
