Spice up your life!
Looking for a nice place to do some shopping in Istanbul and you’d rather visit it with local guide Istanbul private tours?! Or you might be looking for a colourful location in Istanbul?! The Spice Bazaar – a world of spices and smells is where you can enjoy these both. Misir Carsisi, the Spice Bazaar, is the second largest covered market after the Grand Bazaar. It has been a must-see destination in Istanbul for centuries.

Yeni Camii complex
The Spice Bazaar was constructed in the 1660s as part of the Yeni Camii complex. It was built to provide rent for the upkeep of the nearby mosque, the Yeni Camii. It is located in Eminonu and began to be built during the time of Sultan Mehmet III. Sultan Mehmet IV’s mother, Hatice Turhan, ordered architect Mustafa Aga to complete the Spice Bazaar, which he achieved by 1663. The historic marketplace is an “L”-shaped building, consisting of 88 vaulted rooms, almost all of which are now divided into an upper and lower storey
When you visit the Bazaar, preferably with local guide Istanbul private tours, you will see there are six entrances. Stone and brick were used during construction instead of wood and the bazaar has a wooden balcony for reciting the call to prayer. In the early days, the bazaar contained mostly herb stores, but in time spice-sellers, candy sellers and stores selling health products began to open here. Herb stores did not just sell herbs, they were also a kind of health consultant for people looking for herbs to heal their illnesses or who were seeking relief with herbal concoctions.

Since these store owners knew the benefits of hundreds of varieties of spices, aromatic plants, seeds and their mixtures. They were frequented by people from all walks of life including even royalty from the Ottoman palace. Herb stores did not just sell healthy herbs to people. They also obtained herb, root and flower extracts which they then bottled.

PART 2: THE GUIDES
A good trip depends on many things and one of these things is the guide. We had a wonderful guide (Haval Qahraman) who connected us with a great local guide who everyone calls ABU HAIDER but his real name is Razaq. He is the perfect person to take a boat tour with into the Marshes and inside the reed homes. He navigates this area like his ancestors did. He also sang a few local songs to us during the boat ride. It was a great trip.
(Pics from the reed houses coming soon in Part 3). This post is only dedicated to the guides 😜

We arranged for a local guide to meet me with a couple of mules, and he and I ride up to Aaron's tomb over the course of the afternoon. Talk about a harrowing trip - the mule has to carry me up the side of the mountain to the faint speck of a white building you can see in the distance.

Local guide showing us where Beethoven was born in 1770 in Bonn. Sept 15 12 Rhine & Moselle South Tour.
Today was a full day with our local guide Randy out on the land. We started by visiting a Thule culture archeological site where we saw excavations and a reconstructed dwelling, along with lots of Arctic Poppies and some Loons on the pond next to it. Next we travelled north past the airport to the Tupirvik Campground, and on to 3 Mile Lake, where we stopped briefly. The next stop was at 5 Mile Lake, where our guide Randy set up a base with a windbreak tent, to enjoy tea and bannock. From this base we set out on a 6 km hike over the tundra to a pond noted for family of Eider Ducks. Returning from that pond, we spotted the remains of a Musk-ox calf, and took in some view from a bluff above the river that drains 5 Mile Lake. Following the shoreline back to base, we saw a family of Brant Ducks. We returned to Resolute Bay for dinner, then reconnected with our guide Randy for some exploring of the coastline SE of the hamlet of Resolute Bay. To end the day, our last stop was a visit to the memorial of the August 20, 2011 crash of a First Air B373. An episode of the TV series "Mayday" featured this sad disaster.

Thanks to local guides who where looking for them all morning we got to see this nightjar while he was resting during the day.
In the evening the get active and start to feed on insects.
They have amazing camouflage and even this close up shows that...imagine it lying a few feet away...almost impossible to notice him.
The local guide, and some of the crew started referring to me as the speckled bear, and they hang out in caves. :)

Valle de Anton, near Canopy Lodge. Credit to local guide Danilo Rodriguez. First of approximately 200 life species which were found on this trip. This one was found in very dim lighting, as the species is typcally found in the dense tangled understory. If forages in ground leaves. According to "Birds of Panama" guidebook, each member of the pair sings part of the song, and indeed we were able to hear some very intriguing sounds from this bird.
