machu picchu fortress from wayna picchu mountain, Peru
According to local guides, the top of the mountain was the residence for the high priest and the local virgins. Every morning before sunrise, the high priest with a small group would walk to Machu Picchu to signal the coming of the new day. The Temple of the Moon, one of the three major temples in the Machu Picchu area, is nestled on the side of the mountain and is situated at an elevation lower than Machu Picchu. Adjacent to the Temple of the Moon is the Great Cavern, another sacred temple with fine masonry. The other major local temples in Machu Picchu are the Temple of the Condor, Temple of Three Windows, Principal Temple, "Unfinished Temple", and the Temple of the Sun, also called the Torreon

Note the white pickup (Lower Left) indicates the size of this majestic mountain!
The mountain is linked to the life of Lawrence of Arabia.
As you enter the desert, the first point of interest you come across is an imposing rock formation, which took its name from the homonymous book of Lawrence of Arabia, which was also the reason for the region being known. The stunning mountain is across from the Wadi Rum Visitor Center. In Bedouin, he refers to this mountain as Jabbal Al Mazmar. Looking at the hill carefully, five pillars are clearly visible, while the other two are positioned around the corner.

This amphitheater is carved right from the mountain rock. It's a little different from the other ancient theaters in Jordan because of its (grand) setting and the pinkish-red color. Surrounded by a lot of small Nabataean tombs, affirming that it's a part of Petra. The panoramic views of this place from the trek to the Treasury viewpoint are also spectacular.

One day during our birding trip to Morocco, our birding guide hired two local guides to help us find some of the rarer desert birds. They in turn hired a bedouin who knew where to find the Egyptian Nightjars. He did not want to ride in the van with us, but walked out into the desert and we followed him.
A lovely, knowedgeable man who found us the birds, patiently guided me until I actually saw them, and then invited our group to his home for traditional Moroccan mint tea.

Pura Santi Muara Dipa which is located on Jl. Bakti Husada no. 14A Lingkar Barat Bengkulu, is the main temple for the Hindu community in Bengkulu province. For much of the year this temple is deserted, but on Hindu holy days this temple will be packed by the followers of Hinduism and visitors.

We had the opportunity to take two boat rides on the Rio Frio with a local guide whose ability to spot birds was nothing short of astounding. He'd point at times and it would take me minutes to see what he was pointing at. I liked sitting in the back of the boat, where he manually steered the engine, so I could practice a bit of Spanish and see what he was pointing at. Rufescent Tiger Herons were common. We saw many of them and they seemed well acclimated to humans, sometimes hanging around fishing skiffs in the hope of a handout or throwback. This one was walking along the shore towards a little side stream which I hoped he would fly over. Sometimes it pays off. (Tigrisoma lineatum)

Ketupat is rice packed inside a diamond-shaped container of woven palm leaf pouch. It is commonly found in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, and Philippines.
In most of Indonesia, the tradition on preparing and consuming ketupat is strongly linked to Islamic tradition of lebaran (Eid al-Fitr) celebration. Nevertheless, ketupat is also known in non-Muslim communities, such as Hindu Balinese, which suggested that the weaving of coconut fronds has pre-Islamic origin.

In Greek we have a saying "every good thing, at some point ends". And that's what happened to my vacation as I am now back to "reality". At least I had wonderful time while I was visiting Aruba, a place that I have never been before. And even if it wasn't Greece, it felt like it a little. You see, in Greece many people have a tradition for their summer vacation: they pick an island and they visit it by exploring it and going to every beach it has. Aruba offered me that opportunity as it has many places to explore, lots of beautiful beaches and it's an extremely safe island overall. So if you are not a person that will just lay by the Resort's pool and have a drink, Aruba is your island. whether you explore it by making your own schedule or using a local guide, it's fun and lovely! I took this picture at the Baby beach, probably the most famous beach in the island outside the resorts area. It's a small bay, almost a lagoon, with shallow crystal clear water and very strong winds. So don't even try to set up your beach tent or umbrella. You are better off finding a divi-dive tree (called Watapana in the local Awawak language) and lay underneath it to get some shade and cool off.

The titan arum is a giant among plants, with a massive flowering structure that can reach over 3 meters (10 ft) in height . The plant generally requires 7–10 years of vegetative growth before blooming for the first time. Due to its odor, which is like the smell of a rotting animal, the titan arum is characterized as a carrion flower, and is also known as the corpse flower. The titan arum grows in the wild only in the rainforests of Sumatra, Indonesia. It is classified as Vulnerable (V) in the 1997 IUCN Red List of Threatened Plants.
Scientific name: Amorphophallus titanum (Becc.) Becc.
Common name: titan arum, carrion flower, corpse flower, Kibut.
