I love pickles. Pickles every day in every way. Pickles with cheese, pickles on sandwiches and burgers, pickles all over the place. Pickles are the first thing I open when we get home from the store. Pickle choices are limited when you don't eat HFCS. My choices will not be when I'm done pickling!
So far, I've made dilly beans and these pickles. Coming up, bread and butter, something with summer squash, and I'd love to make cornichons.
Chubby Kirby cucumbers are from my favorite very jovial woman at the farmer's market.
Used dill seed instead of weed and white instead of cider vinegar because another trip to the store would have done me in. These might be spicy as the pickling spice I got at the co-op has big dried peppers in it. Used a combo of yellow and brown mustard seeds.
I don't like the new "platinum" Ball lids. I woke up to rust spots on the top of two of them.
Saw this beautiful teapot in a local store recently. If I didn’t already have so much clutter in my house, I might consider buying this pot.
Montana Rail Link's 840 Local from Helena rolls along the Missouri River just west of Lombard, Montana. The Local will work industries at Trident, and Three Forks before returning to Helena. Meriwether Lewis of Lewis and Clark fame camped across the river (just left and above of the lead locomotive) on July 25, 1805.

MRL local 844 got a track warrant from Logan, MT to MP39 in Whitehall, MT for a pair of two-bay hoppers. That translated to a fun chase across the scenic 5th Sub, seen here near La Hood/Cardwell, MT, as they prepare to enter a canyon carved by the Jefferson River. March 2020.

The race is on along highway 20 is on, as L565 works west doing local work to Manchester, and westbound traffic heads to their location on a warm Saturday evening. The 25 car local is seen here between Dyersville and Farley.
M-GFDSUP rolls through Bemidji, crossing over the calm Mississippi River. Only three cars on tonight's train, but they must have had a lot of work on the way from Grand Forks... I left Grand Forks an hour after they did, and I was home for four hours before they came through.
This is an image of the artwork displayed on a mini "little free library" located in a nearby park. I find it absolutely charming, especially the tiny fairy engrossed in a book. :)
Roughly a month removed from hand surgery, my pins were removed on Monday the 21st. It seemed only fitting to get in a sweet 16 miles when it was 52 degrees in December. While this was not my first time back in the saddle, but it was 11 miles more then my first ride back on the 18th.

Photographed using a 60-600mm lens. Difficult to focus manually as even the smallest turn on the focus ring would be the difference between sharp and not sharp. Autofocus was front focussing, so I spent a few hours adjusting the autofocus fine tuning until the writing on the shop sign was sharp.
This was taken about ¼ mile from the shop, across the valley. 480mm, 200asa, 1/250, f11, on a tripod with mirror up release.
If the forecast is correct and there is some sunshine, I’ll go down the local nature reserve and see if I can find anything from the hides. I wont hold my breath, the little critters seem to know when I’m there...

Decommissioned railroad bridge, repainted "bridge green" as part of its restoration as a traditional landmark in the local landscape.
MARC E9 #67 has paused at the College Park station sometime in February 1994 with a local for Baltimore. The E9 would not last the year being among the first of MARC's classic cab units to be replaced by the red-nosed GP40-2Ws during the spring and summer of 1994. Nikon N8008, Kodachrome 200.

Fierce predator, Shrews live life fast and need to eat every couple of hours. Shrews can eat up to 4 times their bodyweight in a 36 hour period. They will eat worms, beetles, slugs etc. Agressive males often fight to the death .
They are not on the menu for several predators as they apparently taste nasty.

They don't only taste nasty but are second most venomous vertebrae in Britain after the Adder. Their saliva is quite toxic, their bite is very painful and irritating and the toxin when ingested by predators is supposed to be an emetic.
Shrews also have a very high heart rate, one of the fastest for the relative size. thanks Mic and Favemark for the extra info.
