It is a medieval village that arose in the twelfth century as a result of religious fervor that was deployed at the time. He built chapels, shrines and churches. .
In the lower level, about 40 meters above the valley buildings line the single street of the population retains towers and fortified gates.
At the second level, about 60 meters high, and semi-staged rock-cut shrines rise seven and the basilica church. They are accessed by the famous staircase of over 200 steps, but you can also use an elevator.
On the top floor of the cliff stands a castle built in the nineteenth century on the ruins of a medieval XIV century. Currently only accessible to the lookout over the canyon.

I haven't been on a MetroDecker so I can't comment on the ride quality or interior, but I still can't get over the fact that the exterior looks strangely unbalanced and I can't work out why. It's like the side windows are too low on the bottom deck and too high on the top deck. Does anyone else share the same view?
Also, as a destinations guru, that huge amount of wasted space on the front rather grates with me. You've got all that empty space where you could have a massive, clear destination screen and yet the standard 140x19 Mobitec still wins favour. Perhaps it's because this is a demonstrator that it has a standard screen fitted for ease, but I really hope production models have bigger screens. Otherwise it just looks odd.
I have heard good things about it though - perhaps a nice livery will diminish the odd looks!

So this is goodbye.....for now. Looking stunning in the glorious summer sunshine, 35028 powers through the centre road at Kensington Olympia as she heads towards the WCML and her dash to Crewe via Chester.
Couldn't help but feel sad but excited to be involved with the work at Crewe and can't wait to see her when she's back after the overhaul.
African Dietes Irises - Flower of the Butterfly Iris
The flower of the spuria or butterfly iris is quite similar to that of the Dutch iris but the stalks are much taller. There are also three or four pairs of flowers on short branches to each stalk, making it valuable as a cut flower & in arrangement work. When the lovely new forms and colors are better known, the butterfly iris is destined to find more favor in gardens of all sections of the country. Not only does its blooms have great garden value, but the swordlike foliage is attractive and useful in arrangements throughout the year. Butterfly iris are also unexcelled for corsages since the flower resembles an orchid but is less fragile. African Iris Plant Info: Dietes is only found in South Africa and on Lord Howe Island between Australia and New Zealand. There are six species of Dietes, five from tropical Africa and one from Lord Howe Island. The genus name “Dietes” is derived from the Greek “dis” which means twice and “etes” which means an associate—twice – pertaining to its position between Moraea and Iris, two of its relatives. They were previously classified in the genus Moraea, but members of that genus are not rhizomatous. Since the African iris was formerly classified in this genus, it is still at times referred to as Morea iris by some gardeners. The species name “bi-color” means two-colored. Other Dietes species include the Fortnight lily and Butterfly iris.

I was holding 3rd trick at Griffith tower when I took this shot out the window of the westbound "Lined Train" on October 22nd, 1999. This was the best angle I could get as the windows on the north side of the tower were either blocked by lockers or so old and dirty that you couldn't see through them.
If I remember correctly, EJ&E's train the "Night Flyer" ran from Joliet to Gary with a departure time from Joliet sometime around 11 pm-ish. When it got to Gary, it turned on the "Lined Train" and went back to Joliet. This info may be somewhat incorrect but that is what I recall.
This train had EJ&E 656-666, 65 cars and a Union Tank Car switcher mid-train, which I will post because I would like info on it.
Train went 2-1 through the plant and levers out for this move were 49 (crossover)-51 (lock lever)-54 (home signal).
EJ&E SD38-2 #656 was built by EMD in January of 1974.
EJ&E SD38-2 #666 was built by EMD in November of 1975.

More winter scenes ... hope you enjoy them and aren't too bored. It's all I've got to shoot right now lol. And to all of you commenting on how cold they look ... I guess I must be a winter child since I was born in January. I love going out in the snow - unless it's below 20 - then I'm with the rest of you and stay indoors with a good fire or something to keep me warm.
