it was after a heavy downpour, and just after i fell and scoured heavily on the wet ground with my tripod (without the camera, yes). Thinking that I am always young, i suddenly realised that I am losing a bit of coordination and judgement... whoaa! how wrong was i feeling young. alas, whatever life deficit, i think i am recovering life more than i used to have when i was younger. the image above frames my deep loving to the many natural beauties. have a nice weekend

So after this long and frustrating chase that I drowned on about in this post:

I wasn't quite sure what to do next. Knowing that no eastbounds had left Selkirk yet I finally took time for a leisurely (and phenomenally good!) lunch in Chatham. Then after lunch I headed back to CP175 just east of the downtown core and saw that it was still all red.
So I checked in with Dan P. Lowe and he said Q424 (that normally meets the 425 I chased) was still not out of SK. Well great, my chance for shooting my first ever freight at State Line tunnel was looking less and less likely. But I figured I still had two hours of usable light at that point and Chatham had a brewery I'd never been to before soo....perfect way to kill time!
I nursed a flight of four beer samples for a while (had to be responsible since I was solo) and enjoyed some craft beer I'd never tried and burned up another hour. At this point I headed over to the signals again and this time they were lined up and cleared for an eastbound! I pestered Dan again who confirmed that Q425 was by Castleton 15 min prior and headed my way. Perfect, I had my eastbound freight. Well I headed to the tunnel, climbed down and set up. And...well if you've seen this post you know how it turned out:

But there was more!
Luckily in my excitement and pure high after finally getting the freight I wanted with far more dramatic icy conditions than I expected I just had to share it right away! So instead of climbing back up and departing immediately I walked into the cool darkness of the abandoned original 1840 north bore to download and edit a quick photo.
While in the tunnel about 10 min after getting that shot I thought I heard something. It took me a minute with the sound muffled by the granite before I realized that it was another eastbound! After seeing none all day and having no intel this second one right on the block of the first took me totally by surprise.
But thanks to the fact that I delayed my exit I had just enough time to turn around and run back out of the tunnel, fumble with my settings and get these shots of eastbound Q426.
So after a lifetime of never shooting a freight at the State Line Tunnels and a long and frustrating day of missed opportunities the Railfan Gods rewarded me for my dedication in the end!

The High Line Observation Deck, New York, USA
Visiting the High Line Observation Deck was honestly one of the highlights of my trip to New York. The whole concept of turning an old railway into this elevated park and viewpoint is genius, and standing there looking out over the city felt magical. It’s such a unique way to see New York—peaceful yet buzzing with energy all around. I’d recommend it to anyone; it’s brilliantly done and absolutely worth the visit.
I spent some time in Kentucky for the Thanksgiving Holiday and while I didn't get out much I was able to spend a day trackside. On the day after Thanksgiving CSX empty coal train E013 has Seaboard Air Line Heritage Unit 1900 second out at Guthrie, KY 11.29.24

Looking somewhat worse for wear, Thomas Hill 'Steelman' 6wDH locomotives, numbers 61 and 63, head a line up at Scunthorpe steelworks, which also includes four of the YEC Janus locomotives that were synonymous with rail operations on this site for many years..

CSXT Walpole based local B733 with a lone GP40-2 and 10 loads for Bluelinx in Bellingham is westbound on the Keolis/MBTA Franklin Line. These cars are destined for the customer located on the freight only Milford Running track about 3/4 of a mile beyond the Forge Park station, the last one on this route. This once a week run is the last freight train on the old New Haven Midland Division west of Walpole and it is on borrowed time with the last run possible any week (in fact I'm not certain if there will be another next week) as the Grafton and Upton has been approved to start serving the final two remaining customers from the other end via their restored connection in Milford. News reports are that the G&U will make the first deliveries next Monday but allegedly there are still cars in Walpole to be delivered so we will see. But this very well may have been THE last run on on a line that has had continuous freight service since the Norfolk County opened the route in 1849. They are seen here on the single track in this view looking down off the Park St. overpass at MP 24.7. At left is the under construction second main being restored to this route that was double tracked as early as 1888 when it was a through route mainline.
