We headed to the Napa Valley in northern California. It's famous around the world for the wineries and wine. This time we did not go for wine tasting, but to enjoy the fall colors. The road to the Far Niente Winery is engulfed in delightful yellow. It did not matter that we could not drive in there (pun intended).

I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

My brother was exhaling vapor from his electronic cigarette and I loved how the smoke played in the light. The reflection on the table top adds to the mystique.

On the way back to the San Francisco Bay Area from Nevada we stopped at the Borax Mine, located between Las Vegas and Bakersfield. The visitor center has a statue of a twenty-mule team, were a team of eighteen mules and two horses attached to large wagons transported borax out of Death Valley from 1883 to 1889.

We went backcountry skiing at Mt. Rose, Nevada. The plan was to ski all the way down to the Washoe valley, a 3000 feet drop. There was a beautiful sea of clouds. Descending down in pristine untouched deep snow was fun. But then entering the clouds it was dense fog. Everybody was well equipped with avalanche beacon, a probe and shovel. However, the tour guides deemed it to risky to proceed through dense fog, so the team had to climb all the way back to the starting point.

Cambodia, Vibes with lights and shadows

I am currently preparing for an art show in San Jose, California, called Travel Perspectives: Explore | Experience | Connect. We are three San Francisco Bay Area photographers who share our perspectives and styles in an exhibition celebrating the intentional and opportunistic traveler. If you are nearby please join our opening reception at the Art Ark Gallery on September 2nd. See details at www.artarkgallery.com/travel-perspectives.html

I'll exhibit this photo at the gallery. In 2016 we spent 3 days at a rocket launch event in the Black Rock Desert. It was Balls, the Wild West event of rocketry, with large and dangerous rockets. Many people mix chemicals to create rocket fuel. People have fun burning unusable rocket fuel in the camp fire at night - what a spectacle! At times the light is so bright that you have to cover your eyes. A friend had the crazy idea to bring his sofa to the camp. Useful and comfortable!

Amazing light in my room as the sun rises.

Walking around the Granite Creek Vineyards, we found a rotting truck that still held on to vibrant colors. This definitely matched the peacocks that roamed the grounds as well.

Last November we headed to the Napa Valley in northern California. It's famous around the world for the wineries and wine. This time we did not go for wine tasting, but to enjoy the fall colors. The road to the Far Niente Winery is engulfed in delightful yellow, which lends itself also for a contrasty monochrome image.

I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

We spent 3 days in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada to attend Aeronaut, a rocket launch event organized by AeroPac. I got up early on Saturday to witness the sunrise. This is the view from our tent shorty after sunrise. Nobody was up at this early hour.

In 2022 we drove to the Hope Valley in California to see the fall colors in the Sierra Nevada mountains. On the way we passed by a walnut tree farm near Lockeford, where we noticed a lot of dust in the trees. We stopped, it was a good photo opportunity! It turned out that the walnuts just were getting harvested. One machine drove along the nicely arranged trees to shake them one by one so that the nuts fall to the ground, another machine arranged the fallen nuts and debris in the middle between tree rows, and a third machine scooped it up. All that created a lot of dust, to the delight of us three photographers.

I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from two RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, desaturated the image by 90%, and added some sepia. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

3 [freelensing] pictures shot in the dark, or almost...

:)

Awesome night out tonight with Tei who I've not seen for an age. Was great to catch up over a couple of courses of lp.

This one is a progression of my last post but with a tilt to increase the size of the dead space in the middle rotation.

I did what I thought was a more polished version straight after this but I hadn't leveled the camera after my last rotation and Tei was stood on a slope.

Top night out buddy and we'll not have to leave it so long next time.
