Almost blatantly ripped off from rprathap www.flickr.com/photos/rprathap/3190441644/in/pool-8768930... this is done in conky. The beauty of my version is the hazard icon is not cosmetic, but it gives an output based on the temperature (no it is not burning hot outside right now, I choose that one for rainy/cloudy, because I hate it :) )

The month year is present just like his.

However, where he puts the temperature I put the time... and put an X- in front of it for cosmetic effects.

at the bottom you will see the ram/swap drive stats as well.

---- EDIT -----

Btw if anyone would like my conky scripts please shoot me an email at me.at.travismccrea.com and I will shoot you the zip with fonts and everything.

I wall mounted my entertainment system - it didn't go much higher than before, and all the cables are hidden behind a cable tray, rather than ran through the wall

Our workspace made it onto Lifehacker.com. They used my pictures of the office and even wrote about me; it was so cool.

Wallpaper is by Matthieu Bessudo, amazing artist.

A desktop in honor of the Firefox 3.5 release.

Icons are from various sources: contact me if you'd like to know about specific ones.

Text is all from various Geektool scripts taken from Lifehacker.

Lifehacker's new look came out today. In general, I like the changes, however, the left sidebar was too much for me. Thankfully there's Greasemonkey... (better large)

Script available here.

Thoroughly cool. Yesterday (Flickr stats are based on GMT) my Flickr account had 9,089 hits.

Updated: The next day had 7,670 hits.

Why? My home office reorg project ended up on Lifehacker:

lifehacker.com/5423243/before-and-after-the-wire-loom-wor...

Here's the original blog post about the project:

tehdik.com/post/189682355/home-office-reorganization-kit-...

The whole project cost next to nothing, besides a small basic/tray from Home Depot that was turned upside down and mounted behind the crosspiece running underneath the desk. It was a bit tricky assembling the desk inside of the closet, but the result is very effective. I keep a small chair in the bedroom that hides away neatly in the corner. The only downside is the loss of a closet, but there are shelves mounted above the pictures that I keep baskets with pants/clothes in.

Just a slighty modded desktop from my Vader setup. I have started to study and learn the rainmeter skin developing tutorial. I will be doing lots of trial and error skins before I even come out with my first skin, so bear with me.

Made this from a DIY laptop stand post on Lifehacker.com. Used 3/4" pipe with 4 elbow joints and 4 T joints. I spray painted it with a silver that matched my aluminum macbook then put a glossy clear coat X2 because the spray paint was rubbing off.

I recently created this minimal desktop after finding the awesome DarkWood wallpaper from deviantART and some of my favourite photos.

Apps of interest:

1. RocketDock - for tracking open windows and to provide a clock. I hide this automatically so I only see it when I need it.

2. Alt-tab powertoy - RocketDock only displays minimized windows so I use ALT+tab to switch between windows that are active

3. Enso - App launcher. I prefer this to Launchy because the indexing in launchy uses resource

4. Pidgin - IM tool

5. Main browser - Firefox 3, but chrome is so fast! (honorable mention to Opera for speed)

I found the table on Craigslist for $25. Refinished the dilapidated top and painted the base from white to black.

It's actually my computer. He works in a office most of the time, but gets to telecommute once a week (He's hoping that they'll up the number of days soon). He does use his computer (seen here) for work, I think he just likes the view from mine better.

Shake to clear desktop, drag to edge to maximize, click to unmaximize

My 11 workspaces that have helped tremendously with productivity when I use them properly.

The idea was from a post at Lifehacker, this one:

referring to the desktops at this link:

The bubbles and icons I use are from the great free mindmapping program freemind. The ubuntu sticker on my computer I got with the disks I asked for waaay back in 2006 June.

USB hub, 5 port switch, coax splitter, server power supply, 500gb seagate external hard drive.

***It's Windows XP SP2***

---Rainmeter---

Rainmeter is an excellent app for desktop applets, great for embedding info. Only problem is that it's not being actively developed anymore, which is a shame...

*Enigma: Lifehacker features this all the time, but if you haven't heard of it before, I'm using Kaelri's Enigma configs. They're beautifully simple...modified a little to use different fonts and different sizes.

*10 Foot HUD: Wonderful, informative, at-a-glance data. Modified to change the color, font, and size.

*HUD.Vision: For the vertical calendar. HUD.Vision also has a bunch more apps, but none are used here.

---ObjectDock---

I've been using this since the beginning of time. Using the "ecqlipse 2" icons found here: chrfb.deviantart.com/art/quot-ecqlipse-2-quot-PNG-59941546

Also using the Stacks Docklet in Grid View. Dead useful sometimes...

---CD Art Display---

Can't find it? It's the tab in the upper left corner. I know there's no CD Art, but that's obtrusive, and wouldn't fit in this case. Using the MiniMuZic skin here: my99.deviantart.com/art/MiniMuZic-For-CAD-112159168

---Launchy---

Launchy is now my favorite killer app. It's completely removed my need for my desktop; it's able to launch anything. It's brilliant. Using the RooLa skin, found here: otisbee.deviantart.com/art/RooLa-Launchy-114283563

---Stardock Fences---

Used to organize my desktop icons, and to hide them when needed. That double click function is dead useful sometimes.

(English is not my first language, therefore I hope you can understand what i'm trying to tell. so sorry. this is my first atttempt.)

I'm very particular about productivity and GTD, therefore I tried making my desktop works as efficient as possible, while retaining its artistic value. I tweak almost everything to my own satisfaction.

1. Winamp running modern City Night skin. Blends well with the theme. Global hotkey enabled so that i won't have to take my hands off my keyboard while typing in Word or playing DoTA to change the current track playing.

2. QT TabBar and QT Breadcrumbs help a lot in multi-browsing. And neat too. Removed all the standard buttons because I don't need them anymore.

3. Enigma. Just edited the MoxaWeather so that it's aligned horizontally. The lyric under the clock on the left side is not a part of Enigma installation, it's from Minilyric but I edited it's display setting so that it blends well with Enigma.

4. Nightly FindeXer is great in bookmarking folders and getting fast-access to the required folder.

5. With launchy, who needs a start menu? Got rid of the start button using Start Killer, and installed Launchy instead. Skin: Solid-small-dark by n3-m.deviantart.com

6. Program groups. Minimized/opened window goes here. Changed the width to only 10 pixel, so that it can occupied a lot of application window at the same time.

7. Not a big fan of docks. Too cheesy. Just a simple QuickLaunch toolbar, aligned so that it is located at the center of the taskbar.

8. Changed the system icon using Resource Hacker and Replacer. Quite risky though. Changed embedded icon for certain programs too, such as the Winamp (right) and also Firefox (at the program group on the left side of the screen)

Hmmm..what else should I tell?

My desk usually looks like this. Opps, forgot to mention my whiteboard. Got it at Cvs for a buck. Thanks for looking through, and I'm open to any suggestions.

Pressing ground turkey into one gallon zip loc freezer bags and dividing in quarters with a chopstick.

Uses Desktop Sidebar (both docked and undocked windows), Object Dock, Winroll (transparency to the OneNote window), and WinAmp with the Minima skin set to be transparent. Background image is a picture I took near Lake Leman in Switzerland.

My e-Piano is connected through an Audio and Midi Cable (All very discretely hidden thanks to Lifehacker's suggested Ikea Cable-Management) with my Laptop.

The extra Laptop-Table (Dave; 15 Euros @ Ikea) which can be adjusted to height and angle is my personal Tip for any Laptop / Netbook Owner, as it heightens the display, and angles the Keyboard just right.

I've chose Multimedia-Speakers over PC-Speakers, as they benefit of having 5 Input Options, so that I can connect my Ipod / ePiano, ... to the Sub-Woofer, while my Laptop still rests.

My to-date favorite p1i Smartphone is connected with Power Supply and USB, which makes Back-Up really simple. And with the Trust Bluetooth Laser Mouse, i don't mind not having a Mouse Pad :)

And since an original 600 Euros Swopper was a little bit pricey, i went for the 100 Euro alternative (Sitness, bought through Amazon)

Lifehacker Desktop Show and Tell

I have been customizing my desktop for almost a year now, but Lifehacker + Kaelri introduced me to Rainmeter and Samurize.

- Windows Vista

- Rainmeter - HUD.Vision (Clock, CPU); Enigma (Sidebar, System, Notes, Moxa Weather)

- Samurize - Arcs

- CD Art Display - Coversutra

- Launchy - Vision

- Rainlendar - Moderna: Classic

A simple desktop. Uses Desktop Sidebar (set as a normal window), Object Dock, and WinAmp with the Minima skin set to be transparent. Background image is a picture I took at Glacier 3000 in Switzerland.

I was in the shower, thinking of new ways to put the skins, and I thought of a beautiful setup that would look like a landslide, and then I did it and it ended up like this. Enjoy
