So I'm sitting here bored out of my mind listening to Oasis while reading about lymphocytes and the immune system. I glance over; sitting on my desk within arms reach is a hole-punch and my camera. A cure for boredom! Although short lived as I am now back to work; here is what became of my spare time.

This is his first Kiwi Crate project, a Polar Bear catching game! He made his own polar bear paws and ears and covered a small ball with velcro so it sticks to the paws when he catches it! He did most of it by himself and he's so proud.

[In which Little Paddington teaches the potato masher a cold, cruel, harsh life lesson.]

My beautiful Facebook Paddington Lovers. I don’t know what potato mashers in Europe are like. Are they as hateful as the ones here in Central Texas? Paddington will say, “I’m going to open my favourite kitchen drawer.” and the potato masher says, “The heck you will.” Paddington isn’t quite sure if it’s a metric or imperial potato masher. All Paddington knows is that the potato masher does its very best to jam the drawer closed to keep him from fully opening it to get things out.

“I’m done with the potato masher and it’s attitude!” exclaimed Paddington. “Can you please fetch me a hammer You Lordship?”

I fetched Paddington a hammer from the tool closet. I won’t go into graphic details about what Paddington did to the potato masher with the hammer because there are children in this group. Let’s just say that potato masher won’t be jamming Paddington’s drawer where he keeps the good stuff like the kitchen spider, the tongs, and the cherry pitter. Also, the lemon or lime juicer because if Paddington is going to drink his weight in gin, he likes a sizable splash of citrus in the glass.

“The Late Queen Majesty’s mother taught me how to drink gin.” says Paddington. “She liked a zest of lemon in her drink(s). There’s a zester in here somewhere.”

Vito's Life Lessons

Week 43

Create your own Happiness

---------------

Along the lines of "when life give you lemons.." This is the snow version. When mother nature gives you a few feet of snow WAY before she should have ya gotta make the best of it.

The dogs of course love the snow. They have been in and out, in and out, in and out for a few days now. Vito had a fantastic time with the frisbee in the snow. He'd try running with it and end up with a face full of snow becuase it would scoop the snow as he went. I couldn't help but laugh at him...

I love how dogs can turn anything into a positive. Even snow in October. Happy Winter to us!

Life lessons learned:

*玩具一定要有名字才叫玩具,有靈魂有不同個性,他永遠陪伴在你身邊,不會離開

*角色設定和說故事一樣重要,要有靈魂,要能夠吸引人

*Follow your heart

Life lesson chapter 2: #34

After doing our first transect from Gambel(St. Lawrence) to the Anadeer Gulf (Russia) we turned back again to American waters.... much to the relief of the crew... and brought all but the whaling captain home again.

This time we went into the center of town where boardwalks had been set up to deal with the permafrost and make it easier to move around.

Vito's Life Lessons Wk 20

The dogs and I spent the weekend at a friends Sheep Farm. They had a blast. Brit (my border collie) got to work sheep a lot, and the short ones got to run around, roll in stuff, and critter. All in all a pretty great weekend!

I got a lot of great photos this weekend- but I kept coming back to this one. Togo (the guardian dog) is just one of two dogs that live at the farm and he was enthralled with my little dogs. Especially Vito. It was interesting to watch him follow them around, and even mimic them at times. He actually tried to play with them! He is a pretty mellow dog so it was neat to see him get a little wild. lol. This photo was taken this morning on a walk through the field. Vito was looking for gophers, and Togo was checking each hole that Vito already had.

In looking for quotes and ideas to go along with the photo I came across this one by John Adams. I instantly connected to it- my dogs are my inspiration. Truly. They make me want to be a better dog owner, a better trainer, and a better handler.

And being Corgis (or part corgi) the short ones really do think they are in charge. ;)

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. This means, don't be ungrateful or suspicious when someone gives you something. {Random Thought 9.16.24}

There are many adventures awaiting you. :]

My aunt Cathy and cousin Courtney recently opened up a new shop in Chicago called What Knots. They sell artisan creations and vintage finds. (and offer a photograph heaven for people like me...). I highly recommend checking it out! Also, for all artists/crafters, you can talk to them about selling your creations there!

Life lesson chapter 2: #32

The crabber was not designed for ice, its hull was too thin so the next few hours while we carried the transect was very nerve wracking. And the scientists weren't QUITE sure if our papers were in order with Russia. The crew was incredibly tense and one of them flew the American flag upside down... a sign of distress.

Life lesson chapter 3: #15

At times we would look out and see flows like this to the horizon each one covered with walrus. At one point it was estimated we were seeing over 1000.

This was 1978, almost 30 years ago. I wonder how what the ice floes in the Bering Sea are like now. Has global warming effected the quantity? Has that effected the well being of the marine life that is so dependent on them?

Consoled by Cafe Hon owner and emcee of the contest Denise Whiting, this little Hon [HarlieQuinn] was in tears after the Little Miss Hon Competition. Not only was the contest suppose to just for fun and not taken seriously (as evident from the costumes), she didn't even lose, she came in second! It was a valiant effort. I believe she even belted out a song, America the Beautiful. Oh the agony.

Vito's Life Lessons:

Finders Keepers, Losers go Bunny-less

--------------

Vito found this bunny today and was ecstatic!! I mean, bounding around with it, couldn't contain his excitement, barking and spinning for it. It was bizarre. We probably have one just like it at home- but apparently this particular bunny is special. lol.

He carried it home in the car, and spent half the evening finding the perfect hiding spot for it.

It is in pretty rough shape, and was obviously well loved in the past. Vito promises to continue to take good care of Mr.Bunny. I asked him if he wanted to leave it behind in case his owner came back for it but Vito declined to let it go.

Life lesson chapter 2: #11

Back in town we found this. A umiak, the boat that the Inuit used to hunt bowheads. The regulations that allowed them to catch a certain number of whales, stated that they had to use these boats, with an outboard motor the only compromise for modern tecnological "improvements". They were not allowed to use exploding harpoons or any of the "tools" used by modernday whalers.

www.rockisland.com/~kyak/umicon.html

And I thought it was scary and "roughing it" to be in a 90' crabber with a galley and a head (toilet/shower)!

Or Part 2 starts here

Wednesday night 8pm~

Logan~"Mom I need to go to the store for supplies for a project for

AP Psychology. It is due Friday."

He then picks a picture out of his textbook at that moment and says "I think I will make a model of this". We run to Michaels to get supplies, finishing shopping when they are closing.

On the way home I say "you know procrastinating at the end of your junior year is not good, you must prepare your self for college, Yada yada yada."

With a time frame like this, you will be lucky if you get a B.

He goes home, works on it until about 11pm.

Next day, he finishes the project, late at night, takes it to school The next morning early am before I get up.

Monday evening...........

Logan~ "Oh Yeah, Mom? I got a 330 points out of a posssible 300! The teacher LOVED my model......"

So much for a life lesson for Logan.

Logan never ceases to amaze me.......Maybe he really IS ready for college....How many late nights did I pull????

A life lesson for me.

Life lesson chapter 2: #24

This boat frame was waiting for a new skin.

The "roads" were made of small round pebbles and the people drove everywhere on ATV's. I could see why, walking on the pebbles was like being on a treadmill.

Life lesson chapter 2: #47

It was two weeks after the solstice and we were in the land of the midnight sun. The sun never really set. It would dip into the sea then 15 minutes it would rise again.

One of the crew said "the sun is setting in the north, so it must be rising." We were in such a state of light confusion by this time that it was an hysterical statement. In our bunks there was no natural light out on deck there was no natural dark.

Some of the pictures drawn and painted by the students are based on Aesop’s fables, which teach kids valuable life lessons. Omar, age 11, depicts the old man in the “The Bundle of Sticks” fable. Life lesson chapter 2: #27

We left Gambel and headed west (towards the Anadeer Gulf in Russian waters). Bit by bit we encountered little chunks of ice.

The whaling captain had a beaten up old pair of cheap Sears Roebuck binoculars. He was surrounded by scientists sporting the most advanced optical equipment the Feds could provide. The whaling captain not only could pick out seals and birds on the ice flows well before anyone else... he could identify which species! _______________________________
