Life lesson chapter 2: #37
After leaving Gambel we headed to the Siberian coast north of the Anadeer Gulf looking for Bowheads but with no success... just more ice and fog. We did see a few walrus and grey whales but at a distance.
Then we turned back east again to the Diomedes. They are right in the middle of the Bering Strait... little Diomede in America and Big Diomede in Russia with the international date line running between them. And the artic circle only 40 or 50 miles to the north.

Life lesson chapter 2: #30
But as we headed West towards the Anadeer Gulf (part of our transect back and forth across the Bering sea). It got foggier and foggier.
I was on watch with one of the Inuit whalers and while the boat captain went below for a cup of coffe, these ice cakes started appearing out of the mist... my first reaction was like a tourist: "ooo how interesting ice... why I am truely in the artic" while I busily took pictures. But my watch mate knew better and even thought he didn't speak English he made it very clear that this was not a good thing.

"did she just say "more Wookie Salad"?
"uh...no, she said "more queso.".
*intense laughter ensues*
"i guess queso is 'wookie salad' from now on, eh?"
"forever."
/if i had to hedge bets though, i bet a plate of boiled crawfish is more wookie salad style though.
Life lesson chapter 2: #22
Finally after two weeks ... there was St. Lawrence looming out of the fog. Here we would pick up the Inuit whaling captains and the survey could begin in earnest.
"Arriving" at the town of Gambel meant crashing the zodiac onto a pebbly beach, leaping out and hauling ourselves up far enough so we wouldn't be carried back out by the next wave. Several Inuit were on the beach cutting up a whale they had shot They watched us, giggling, but ran to help us once we got in far enough.
I felt shy taking a pictures and so missed some amazing photos. The scientists went to find the whaling captain, we stayed behind to talk to an older man who was wearing fancy polarized sunglasses a superman baseball cap and had a serious manner. He told us about the whale, its baleen, its habits and how it was necessary to his village. He talked about natural selection and about politics in Washington all with great knowledge. Meanwhile oil dripped from the whales skeleton.
Nearby a young man and his wife and children were painting the boat which had been used to catch the whale. It had been red before, he thought that was too flashy and was going to paint it grey this time. _______________________________

Local Police offered a procession of Tribute to Bristol’s own Gary Powell on Friday, March 2, 2018. As Pastor Sheets pronounced to the family and friends of Gary Powell on Fri. March 2, 2018, “This is not a funeral - this is a celebration of the life of a man who left an impression on everyone he met.” Family, friends and all whom he met in his journey on Earth learned a life lesson from him. His wife Linda Powell and his children, grandchildren and stepchildren will attest that he was also a well-loved man. He was the local Coin Man who could teach you something you didn’t even know that you needed to know. He was retired from the Bristol Police Dept., and he loved his old police car so much that he bought it when the Town sold it, and would drive it in the Homecoming Parade. At the family luncheon held Friday afternoon, the family raised their glasses of his favorite diet Red Pop in a joyful toast of love for him. Just the Facts: Gary R. Powell, Nov. 30, 1940 to February 24, 2018. He passed away at The Maples in Goshen, IN. He owned the Interstate Coin Exchange in Bristol and was a retired Reserve Officer of the Bristol Police Department. Memorial contributions may be given to the Bristol Indiana Police Dept. Reserves.
INDIA' Where else?
One year after the success of our first video in Shanghai ( vimeo.com/33024534 ) Pierre Lelievre and myself "Anthony Finocchiaro" decided to find adventure around in a much more exotic place.. INDIA !
We landed in Delhi but with the clear intention to visit the country as much as we could.
For ten days in India, we had the intention to find a way of transport to escape from the big city and mix with the local population, the real one !!! We planned to take a great life lesson and also share our love of the inline skating, roll on virgin spots and learn skating to the young generation.
Two days in Delhi was almost enough for us to skate most of the city ... Cosmopolitan population shortly shared the info that two crazy Frenchies were inline skating through the streets jumping all the obstacles and catch the tuktuks. It was fun to hear people saying to use "Nice shoes " speaking about our skates, but every time was a challenge for us to explain what is " inline " and what we do here, as we had many questions from curious people.
After some research we decided to rent a motorcycle and go to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal, it was a 200 km road trip between the two cities, which is not really not much in Europe ... But here 200km bike that can quickly turn into a 6/7 hours drive, which was ideal for us to make a few more stops through different cities. So we took the time to stop in beautiful spots where we shared moments with Elephants , snake charmers or cricket players.
We arrived late in Agra but we we still headed straight to the Taj Mahal where our first meeting has been with a tribe of stealing monkeys who tried to ride our bike and wear our helmets… After fighting this crazy monkeys we fully enjoyed a beautiful sunset under the walls of Taj in the company of military guards who were amused to see two tourists a bit like no other, and laughed to hear us saying that we came straight from Delhi with our destroyed motorcycle ... haha.
We spent a total of two days in this beautiful city, made incredible encounters and especially memorable sessions but also left a few pieces of our famous motorcycle after a spectacular crash. We managed to land safely but the bike lost its first and second gear ... so you can imagine what it may look like to start from Zero with the third gear…
Back to Delhi we lost our third gear so it was really hard to continue to tour with this lethal weapon in the middle of the jungle road, so we decided to give back this broken shit and continue to end this journey by skitching cars, tuktuk or even camels, but always making extraordinary meetings with inlines on our feet!
For this trip we used both the SEBA FR1 Orange & Blue customized way FR-A by adding the soulplate, and the new SEBA Street Invaders wheels which really passed the test on this very difficult grounds.
For amateur or Pro skater, this skate skate was more than ideal for this safari trip. THANKS SEBA Skates and thanks everyone who made this trip so special, I hope to feed back and show these pictures to as much people as possible!
Also thank you Pierre for being always on top, this is just the beginning of our adventure ..

Through this grouping, I'm trying to tell the story of a pair of swans teaching their offspring how to be a swan.
About 15 years ago I went on a gratitude finding introspective therapy (naikan 内観) retreat for a week where I considered all the things that I should be grateful for. My gratitude towards my wife and mother were of course immense, but I was a little surprised to find that I had till then forgotten many of the things that my father had done for me, including the purchase of a wonderful, winged, Bonito dinghy. My parents would take me to a gravel pit lake not far from our house in Swindon and watch me capsize the Bonito. I enjoyed getting out on the wings as near as possible to, and often beyond, the limit of sail force that my young teenage body could stabilize. This training in living dangerously (when on water, and there is little to bump into) may I think have served me well as a life lesson which, in my dotage, I wish to give to my son. Hence the Yamaha Mini Hopper on the roof of our Noah minivan. Ray is a bit too young for a winged dinghy but perhaps he will use and enjoy this mini Lazer-like dinghy. I look forward to having a go myself.
Is it like riding a bicycle, or does one forget how to do it? I shall see.

Todd Shea is the founder of Comprehensive Disaster Response Services (CDRS) a Pakistan-based charity also registered in the US. Todd is a singer, musician and a songwriter who has traveled all over the World performing his music. Todd got his inspiration to play music during the dark teen age years he went through after his mother’s death. The difficult times that Todd experienced in his early years taught him many life lessons, and he developed strong feelings towards humanity and the desire to help people harmed by tragedy. Todd eventually began to use music to share his experiences and convey a healing message to help troubled teenagers to get through their own hard times.
On 9/11, Todd never knew that his life would take such a drastic change and he would find abilities which he wasn't even aware of before the unfortunate event which affected the entire World and destroyed thousands of families. Todd had been visiting New York for a musical concert but instead put his guitar down to respond to the tragedy he witnessed from his hotel room window. Since then Todd has been directly involved in many disasters, providing logistics and operational support.
Todd has been working with and supporting many missions and organizations responding to disasters. Todd’s experiences include volunteering after the disastrous tsunami in Sri Lanka in 2005 and in the same year he worked as a logistics coordinator and animal rescuer during Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. He then worked to deploy a group of doctors to the Pakistan earthquake in October 2005. Since then he has been working in Pakistan to assist people who were affected by natural disasters and conflict. In 2010 he initiated a mission to deploy doctors in Haiti to help those affected by the devastating earthquake, in early 2011 he provided disaster relief services to tsunami victims in Japan, assisted in the coordination of relief during Hurricane Sandy in New York in 2012 and deployed to The Philippines to provide logistical support to several Humanitarian organizations responding to Super Typhoon Haiyan in 2013.
In 2014, Todd and CDRS continued to operate a Mother & Child Health Center in Northern Swat and began a collaboration with Imran Khan Foundation (IKF) to provide Mobile Medical Teams and major health system support in Bannu for the people of North Waziristan who have been forced to flee fighting between the Pakistan Army and The Taliban, and for communities affected by the flood emergency in Puhjab and AJK. In 2015, CDRS plans to further expand their collaboration with IKF and work with many other partners on projects focusing on health, Women's Empowerment and the Welfare of Children.

Bailey Dazy asks "Any.... exercises I can practice to help me get in touch with my inner feline?"
Catherine Saiman: Yes.. listen.. you know what you're supposed to be..
Bailey Dazy nods.
Catherine Saiman: If you put a cat outside and leave it.. it won't die.. it will adapt.. it will learn.. it will return to it's instincts.. because they are always there
Bailey Dazy nods again.
Catherine Saiman: Let me make this a little more simple.. Forgoing the nature of it.. the whys.. Look at how you react to a situation.. What controls your nature, how a human would handle the situation.. or how your body wants to handle it..
Bailey Dazy looks confused "Depends on the situation?"
Bailey Dazy thinks about it "I let diplomacy take over... normally... I thought that was right way to handle things."
Catherine Saiman: Have you ever felt the muscles in your body tense at a situation, only because you felt something..
Bailey Dazy nods "Often."
Catherine Saiman: Felt the little pull that made you want to spring at someone.. because they smell like prey.. How about the sensation that makes your hips sway.. the overwhelming urge to feel the teeth of your lover agaisnt the back of your neck?
Bailey Dazy wrinkles her nose "Not that they smelled of prey... more of... the want to neutralize a threat.... " She hmms in a positive way after the latter statement.
Catherine Saiman: How about the maddning urge sets every sense on it's very edge, that pushes your ability to see.. to hear.. to perceive so strongly you don't need any help..
Catherine Saiman: How about the ache in your body to be some place high.. the confident feeling that lets you walk the edge, and the almost thoughtless grace makes the edge so trivial, you never fear the fall..
Bailey Dazy nods again, relating, listening.
Catherine Saiman: All these whispers are muted screams.. it is what your nature demands.. and what you willingly repress..
Catherine Saiman: Diplomacy is control.. it is just another form of ripping someone's throat out..
Catherine Saiman: it is making them see your way and conceed to it, all while feeling they got exactly what they wanted..
Bailey Dazy narrows her eyes. She hated others feeling like they were right, when they weren't. "Yes... yes."
Catherine Saiman: As I told Mal one day when he was batting at a ball of yarn.. it is the most simple things that hone our very existance.. that little game, teaches hunting skills.. the pounce.. the grab.. the bite..
Catherine Saiman: these things.. so trivial to human eyes and minds.. but those are the tools of our ancestors..
Bailey Dazy nods and makes a mental note to get ahold of a new ball of yarn. "I'll get my paws on one... and work with Mal as well. He's young, he's plyable."
Catherine Saiman: Dogs communicate through noise.. cats through actions.. cats have only a few noises.. the trill of a mother to her kitten.. a soothing sense of security..
Catherine Saiman: The growl of anger.. and their meow.. yet this is not every answer a cat will give you..
Catherine Saiman: theres a swat, letting you know claws could have been used, but weren't...
Bailey Dazy nods, that was much like what she did to Bianca earlier.
Catherine Saiman: There's the quick bite, the grab, the pounce, each can be silent if so desired..
Catherine Saiman: or they can bear the growl of deep anger.. the warning to any around that they may suffer the same if so daring
Catherine Saiman: But in all this... there is the purr.. a singular vocalization that can mean so many things.. pleasure, contentment, or a self soothing sound when very afraid..
Bailey Dazy is familiar with that concept.
Catherine Saiman: Our natures are full of passion.. it is these passions that we surrender to every day.. in war.. or not..
Catherine Saiman: I would hope that these simple words allow you to feel the pride I feel... the understanding of what our kind should be.. and I hope it begins your own discovery.. so one day you may find one to teach as well
Bailey Dazy takes in each word Cat says, a simple head nod is all she can muster at the moment. "I need some time to... prowl I think."
Catherine Saiman: Give it time.. I'll be here with my library.. the books need reading, and sometimes it is nice to be needed..
Bailey Dazy smiles a little bit. She'd lean forward, rubbing her cheek against Cat's shoulder should she let her.
Catherine Saiman: Be well kitten.. and be safe
Bailey Dazy nods and head for the door.
Catherine Saiman ruffles the nape feathers of the raven with a slight smirk, "Don't give me that look Mister... I'll have you know you're a hair's breadth from being a stew" She'd smile and lightly tug at the raven's beak as it'd squawk, "She's got a mate anyways.. one that actually pays attention to her.. now shush with you tonight, there'll be no more mockery"
Vito's Life Lessons #25
Don't Take Life too Seriously, there is always someone poking their tongue out at you.
-----------
Vito is a pretty serious dog- for about 49% of the time. The other 51% is spent doing funny things, and making me laugh. In this photo he was concentrating so hard on the sit stay that he couldn't hold his tongue in. lol. It made ma laugh, and it had to be my 52 weeks photo this week. ;)
Day Twenty Two
I am reading the book, "Three Black Skirts" by: Anna Johnson. It's a really funky life lesson book. She addresses everything from fixing things around the house to fixing yourself. It's pretty great so far. I have been so encouraged to make positive movements in my life from her words. Within the book are also lots of sketches of women of all different sizes and appearances. I am thinking that my next set of pictures will be reenactments of these sketches.
The title of the books is 'three black skirts' meaning, one to succeed, one to slob-out, and one to seduce. I wanted to save the black skirt photo for when I get to that section of the book. So, as many of you know, I have quite the shoe collection and I thought I'd put it to good use.
So, three red shoes. One to seduce, one to slob-out and one to succeed. Which is which... that's a matter of opinion I think.
*also, I know we're missing a few days. i took the photos but chose to post them only on my facebook page.

Growing up in Tennessee, I learned many lessons including that a man’s word was only as good as the man. No amount of money or possessions could change this and although they may win fake friendships and acquaintanceships, they would never replace the love and warmth of real people who desire nothing but the best for you in your life. Thankfully, my life has been filled with this from birth until present day.
Although I was born with a condition known as Chiaris Malformation that would rewrite my entire life; a condition that I thought had ended my hopes and dreams, I would eventually learn that God was not done with me. In fact, it was not until I found Jesus Christ that I started to experience what it meant to live and although there were obstacles that stood in my way from having an ideal life, it was my faith in my Lord and Savior that allowed me to hold on for a better tomorrow.
On my journey for this better tomorrow, Christ allowed me to experience different lessons that many people are never able to experience and inside the pages of this book, these lessons are displayed and shared. It is my hope that by reading this book, the reader gains a better understanding of God’s word and His meaning of their lives but also, to help them in their journey to come as many of these lessons are not taught in school and sadly, many young people do not have the parental guidance needed to help them achieve success on their road ahead.
Vitos Life Lessons
Week 28
Never let the fear of sinking get in your way
-----
Vito likes water- he likes to splash around and wade out to try and reach a toy or stick. But rarely does he actually swim. So yesterday I took him out for a Swimming lesson. ;)
Armed with roast beef I lured him out to where he couldn't touch. He did pretty well and then panicked a little. He found this rock to hang on to and I tried my best not to laugh at him. He did eventually relax and went back to swimming for roast beef. :)
I don't think he'll be out-swimming Wicca anytime soon but hopefully he will become more comfortable in the water!!
I've posted more photos from the swimming on my blog- manymuddypaws.blogspot.com
Life lesson chapter 2: #25
The houses were low hovels and shacks scattered randomly around. They looked like the wind whipped through them in the winter. Even so the village had a feeling of industry, purpose and good spirits (maybe it helped that it was summer).
Over a rise was the town center: a small supermarket, postoffice and school. I found the two teachers straighten up after school, and when I said I was a teacher too they gave me the red carpet treatment. One woman was black, had lived and taught in Florida all her life. She was a small wiry woman with a wonderfully giggly sense of humor and large brown eyes... they widened further in amazement that not only had she ended up here in Gambel, but she had lasted a whole year! The other woman was very pasty faced and overweight but warm and welcoming. They both seemed to respect the people they were working for.

Time will tell.
This necklace means a lot to me because of the person who gave it to me. We're going through a rough time right now and all I can do is prove my love to him and my trust. It's a lot harder to do than I thought, and I need a lot of patience, but I'm trying to get through it.
Life lesson.
Russell Cook graduated from Northridge High School in May of 1966. Looking back, he thanks football coach Bob Fink for his advice and encouragement; he also has much respect for Mrs. Ward who showed him the way to love world history.
In the later sixties, Russell served a one-year term in the Air Force in Vietnam and received the Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service in 1970. His love of flight enabled him to complete flight training at Beale air Force Base in 1972. His many pilot career experiences include DC-8 Captain for DHL/ASTAR air cargo; Ohio Jet Services, chief pilot; Wright State University Pilot; Ohio Aviation Co., Check Airman, and training officer. Russell's mother served as his strong source of inspiration, as she instilled within him an attitude of If you can DREAM it, you can do it! When his father sometimes suggested that an objective was not attainable, Russell reacted strongly with, Watch Me! His drive for success enabled him to set goals and work for them through effort, flexibility, and great heart. Captain Russell leaves a great legacy through his professional life of flying; he currently flies Radio Control Aircraft and assists modelers new to the hobby. This is his first Kiwi Crate project, a Polar Bear catching game! He made his own polar bear paws and ears and covered a small ball with velcro so it sticks to the paws when he catches it! He did most of it by himself and he's so proud.
I always thought liking ones self meant liking what one saw in the mirror, the reflection of the outer image. How wrong I was. Life lesson #3, Mirror Image.. Learning to love ones self goes far deeper..you become more than a collection of body parts esthetically drawn together. That all becomes less important to everything else going on inside. Slowly, the inside starts reflecting out and the mirror image you see looks nothing like you have ever seen before. Now, you are truly seeing you. Embrace it, for you are beautiful.
