I'm really sorry I haven't been posting photos or commenting lately :(

It's not that I don't visit my flickr contacts, I do see all your lovely photos, but I've just lost a lot of the motivation to post anything.

Real life is kicking me in the ass. Living out on my own is hard, and it's a bitter life lesson.

As much as I love my dolls, my independence means more to me, and if you haven't already noticed, I will be selling off most of my bjd and blythe collection, which is already small to begin with.

I'm definitely keeping Miss H and Ventura at least, as for everyone else, that remains to be seen. I need to focus on my portfolio and a lucrative but not impossible career.

I miss everyone terribly. I miss looking at doll photos. I miss enjoying my blythes and toys. I miss being able to spend money on things.

Most of all I miss all your wonderful comments. I feel very withdrawn from the dolly community. I no longer am active on PP or TIB, for various reasons, and I feel like I'm becoming a bit of a recluse :( To be quite frank, I've also had a lot of nasty encounters with new doll collectors on PP, DOA, etc, and along with everything else, it's beginning to turn me off the hobby.

I will always be a doll lover, but in case you haven't caught on yet, I'm still on a hiatus, that started when I graduated and couldn't find a job in my field.

Anyways I'm sure most of my contacts have (rightfully) removed me by now, but I am trying my best to get out of this rut and move forward with my adult life. I'm sorry I've missed out on so many things in everyone elses.

Love to all

Tracy

this was really an adorable moment at the grossology exhibit...a dad teaching his son the joys of faux flatulence. i wanted a shot of his face at blast-off but it would have felt too intrusive.

Drawing Book No.3

thoughts, ian in the boat, quote from boyfriend

Olive,

There are so many things to teach you. Sometimes I feel like every day and every moment is a chance for a life lesson. Lately, the pressure to turn you into a perfect little person has been suffocating and we haven’t had much fun.

After feeling, once again, locked in a power struggle with you, I took some time to really reflect on what I’ve been doing and why I’ve been doing it. It was hard to shine a harsh light on the truth but it was needed. Mommies make mistakes, too.

My most important job, Olive, is to help you stay confident, assertive, creative and independent. Now is not the time to make you sit still, always say please and thank you or force you to fit the mold of what society thinks makes a good little girl.

When I approached one of your teachers for advice, she asked me whether I was making a decision based on what was better for you or what would make me look better as a parent. I am so grateful for the coaching your school provides because being told that was like being doused in cold water.

Her saying those words, words that I have said and reminded myself of many times in the last two year, was the touchstone response that I needed.

I let a few comments said behind my back sway the parental path I was on. And I’m sorry that I doubted the child you’re becoming. We’ve haven’t had the easiest month and I felt especially vulnerable to criticism. It’s been cold and snowy and we’ve had to miss a lot of school. Your molars are coming in and you are in a lot of obvious pain.

With each major leap you make, I find myself doubting how I parent. Some of this is because of the way you make leaps. Your leaps are huge and fast. You leave me behind in the dust and scrambling to catch up. And even though I’ve been anticipating them, I still find myself caught off guard by the changes. You learning to talk was not different. It’s not that you couldn’t talk before, it’s just that now you can express your opinion so precisely and synthesize information so much better.

Every interaction became a teachable moment. I felt this enormous pressure to get it right. To explain it perfectly.

We’ve always done things a little differently and you’ve thrived in that environment. I promise that we’re back on track and that I’ll give you the empathy that you need to get through the tough times.

I wrote this a few weeks ago and the changes in you and to our relationship are tangible. I let go of what other people thought of us and returned to how I normally parent you and the results were instantaneous. It helps, also, that your molar has broken through and you are much more of the laid back, compliant child I’m used to.

I’ve started apologizing to you for the minor transgressions that make up our week. I’ll tell you that I should have let you explore longer and not rushed us to lunch. Or that I should have been more patient with you when you were having a hard time. I hope that hearing me apologize makes you quicker to assume responsibility in the future and more sympathetic to what other people are going through.

I still feel like there are too many things in a day to teach you but I realize that not every one of those lessons will be delivered through my actions or my lectures. So, Olive, I’m giving you permission to run about, ask me to pick you up and touch disgusting things on the ground. Go ahead and make mistakes, test your boundaries a bit and see how mommy reacts. Sometimes I’ll surprise you by giving you the nod and smile that tells you it’s okay to keep exploring and sometimes we’ll take a moment to talk something through and define a boundary. Either way I want you to feel safe and loved and for you to know I’m always proud that you’re my daughter.

This is his first Kiwi Crate project, a Polar Bear catching game! He made his own polar bear paws and ears and covered a small ball with velcro so it sticks to the paws when he catches it! He did most of it by himself and he's so proud.

This shot was only possible due to a number of people:

Olivier Bareau, who Skyped an impromptu tutorial on the function of the Match Colour function on Photoshop.

Tony3 who helped me realise how to open more than one photo in Photoshop and work with them as layers

Balakov who came up with the Lego Son of Man concept.

It's life Jim.... who helped to inspire this shot with his appreciation of the quote in the first place :)

Vito's Life Lessons 19/52

Memories are the only way to heal heartache, so create a lot of them (especially ones with icecream!)

------

Today my friends little dog Janie would have been 13. She died only a few short months ago and it has been very hard for her owner, aswell as for everyone who loved Jane. Losing a dog- at any age- is heartbreaking.

Every year on Jane's Birthday Sarah would take her for an icecream cone. Today, in Honor of Jane it was suggested that we maintain that tradition. This evening Vito and I headed to Dairy Queen and he could not believe his good fortune. lol. I let him eat the whole thing. I got a lot of great photos- but this is the one that had the most emotion- well at least the emotion that goes with my story. I've posted the others on my blog- they are awesomely funny.

manymuddypaws.blogspot.com

The moral of the lesson- create as many memories as you can with your dog- because at the end that's all we have. This tradition that Sarah created not only helped to get her through the day, but made us all smile a little.

Life lessons learned:

*食藝不只填飽飢餓,也在乎如何在共食的快樂氣氛與緩慢咀嚼中,享受出美味

*在有限的資源下為自己製造日常儀式感,感受與活在此時此刻

Life lesson #1: before celebrating your kill, make sure he's actually down for the count. FAIL

We are celebrating Dr. Seuss' Bday at the school I work for. At first I, took this photo to prove to my son that I actually was able to draw the Sneetches from the cover of the book. But this is one of Dr. Seuss' many profound stories. I've been reading it to my kindergarten class because for the entire year there has been talk of who's white, who is brown and even some comments about religion. I am certain that these children are hearing comments at home and repeating them in school. It's sad because one of my students is from India and he keeps telling his parents that he wants to have white parents instead of brown. He wants to be white. I have children telling him we're white and you're brown. My heart breaks.

I picked out the Sneetches for my class, hoping that they would understand the lesson the book has to offer. The children love this book. They don't think it's fair that the Sneetches with stars treat the Sneetches without stars upon thars in an awful, mean way. They love that the all the Sneetches became friends in the end because they couldn't tell each other apart any more. I'm hoping this book has helped. Thank you Dr. Seuss for all of your wonderful life lessons!

In theory, we replanted daddy's sweet potato plant. #gardening #outsideplay #natureboy #nofilter

Your teasin' ain't enough. Fed up of bidin' your time when I don't get nothin' back. (Adele: Tired)

One of those weeks where everything and everyone is annoying. I seem to have (unknowingly) been doing and saying the wrong things, and I'm trying to make up for them but it isn't working.. I quote, "Just because you want things a certain way doesn't make them that way", I am learning every day.

I just want this semester to be over with. I have 46 days to go until my first year is over: 3 essays (2 of which are almost done, I'm going to get one completed this weekend) and 2 exams (09.05 and 16.05) to go, I will be done on May 16th at 1600 hours! I love Uni, but I'm looking forward to being able to do what I want for the summer, including celebrating my 21st Birthday (which will definitely take up a whole weekend!) Not that I'm looking too far ahead, but I have friends in third year at Uni who are getting done with their projects and dissertations at the moment, that will be me in two years' time.

I went to the theatre last night (it's becoming a staple in my social calendar, I've been twice this year already!) to see Arthur Miller's "The Price" which I speed read on Monday and very much enjoyed. Aside from all of its depression (economic) themes, I liked the life lessons taught throughout. "One day you're the head of the house, at the head of the table, and suddenly you're shit. Overnight."

"Do anything, but just make sure you win"

A real life lesson. Students from King George Secondary school, accompanied by Ida Chong, Minister of Science and Universities, got a first-hand look at the transformation underway at BC Place. The students saw first-hand the cutting-edge science and engineering as work continues on building the world's largest cable-supported, retractable roof.

Vito's Life Lessons

Week 41

The Best Goals are set just beyond your reach

================

Vito has a thing for cats. His cats, the neighbor cats, all cats. He wants to sniff them, and lick them, and if at all possible smush them. It's one of his many quirks. This particular cat is my own, and he often sits on the fence and swats down at the dogs. It's one of their games they play.

Sometimes Simple is Best

We could learn a lot from our dogs- things are black and white, uncombplicated and often just simple. So unlike us. lol

For this week, a portrait of a handsome guy sitting among some Buffalo Beans. It doesn't get much simpler than that. :)
