Yarra Plenty Regional Library's Diamond Valley Library closed in February for an exciting renovation! Work began on 22 February and is expected to be complete by mid-winter.
Diamond Valley Library was built in 1984 and extended in 1993, but since then there have been significant changes to the way that libraries are used, to community needs, and to the technology we use. This renovation will ensure that the library serves the local community well for many years to come.
The work, worth $1.27 million is funded by Nillumbik Shire Council and the State Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program and will see major upgrades to the building, including a brand-new roof. Other features will include a parents’ room, fully accessible gender-neutral toilets, a new community room, meeting pods, tech pods, and an outdoor deck to allow library users to work or lounge in the thriving community garden. There will also be a co-working zone for entrepreneurs and micro-businesses, with a space for training, workshops, and to brainstorm.
These new facilities will give our community even more opportunities to connect, learn, and thrive. We look forward to welcoming you into them!

The Summer Reading Club was a big hit this year with hundreds of kids participating and reading all Summer long. Any kid who read at least 30 books got their picture taken and was added to the train on the wall in the Juvenile section of the library.
The new Library building in Birmingham is stunning, both inside and out. You are able to ascend right to the roof on the 7th floor - the final journey in a glass lift - where you can look out across the City to the surrounding coutryside. There is also a herb garden on the 4th floor. Hopefully this set of photos gives you a taste of the building and the wonderful veiws of the surrounding buildings.

This month's library display explores the various roles of women in the American Revolutionary War and highlights the contributions of several specific women. Women played a significant role in the American Revolutionary War. Some did fight on the battlefield! Others contributed by serving as nurses, cooks, laundresses, water bearers and seamstresses for the Continental Army. Camp followers included women who, wishing to be by their husband's side, followed them on their campaigns and helped keep army camps running smoothly. On the home front women raised money to support the war effort. They also utilized their skills in spinning, weaving, and sewing to assist the revolutionary cause.
