The Summer Reading Club was a big hit this year with hundreds of kids participating and reading all Summer long. Any kid who read at least 30 books got their picture taken and was added to the train on the wall in the Juvenile section of the library.
The library was built in 1904. It is one of only 13 of the 32 libraries still standing. The bottom floor is the Layland Museum. The top floor is used as a community theater for Carnegie players. One of the oldest community groups in continuous existence. The upstairs still has wooden floors and old fashioned seats.
The Tween program for the day was Fizz Boom Eat! They kids tried different food experiments with Professor Sti!
Went to the library to get some more reading material and discovered an art show from several elementary schools. Even the 2nd graders draw better than I do!
Rick Hawkins of S. H. A. R. K. (South Houston Area Recreational Kiteflyers) visited the library and brought along a collection of his kites to go flying, but first the kids got to make their own kites with his help. Then everybody went outside for a kite flying demonstration! The kids got to try out their newly made kites as well as Rick's special ones.

nrhp # 71000049- Hunt Memorial Library is a historic former library in Nashua, New Hampshire. It was built in 1903 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
The Nashua Public Library moved to a new building in 1971. The building is now owned by the city and is available for rent for functions.

I sanded and painted this little side-table and bought it back from the drab. Found at the thrift store for $13, but it was half-off day, so i only paid about $7. Not a bad little deal I'd say.
That enamel lamp was an awesome thrift store find. $9 and I almost passed it up. Oh the shame.

Preschool Storytime (for ages 3-6): at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Pat's theme this week was penguins and each child who came to storytime got a chance to pretend to be a penguin and stand with an egg balanced on their feet.

The biggest library in southeast asia!
Passing this, I couldn't help but thinking how great it would be if I could check it out sometime, what books, how the system works, how they create the atmosphere, et cetera. All that being said, I'm pretty sure the library was also jam packed with cafes and shopping areas. We're talking Singapore, baby..
Mark Crawford presented a fascinating portrait of the life and works of author C.S. Lewis last night at the Friendswood Public Library. The program was well attended and, based on many of the comments made afterward, was very much enjoyed and appreciated. The Friendswood Public Library hopes to have Mr. Crawford back for another enlightening presentation.
Mark T. Crawford was educated at SMU, Dallas and Oxford University before completing his Doctor of Ministry Degree at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He now serves as Staff Chaplain at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.

These slides of the July 22, 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens were taken by Jim Vallance, who was in a U.S. Forest Service fixed wing aircraft and by Mike Doukas, Harry Glicken, and Rick Hoblitt who were in a U.S. Geological Survey helicopter. There were three major eruptive pulses on July 22, 1980. They begin at 17:14, 18:30 and 19:02 PDT. Slides no. 5 through 25 were taken between 18:25:20 and 18:26:30 This sequence was taken while moving counter-clockwise from the north to the west flank of Mount St. Helens at a distance of about 7 miles and while changing elevation from about 10,000 to 12,000 feet.
