Lucky me. A parking spot opposite the old library (now a pub) on a sunny day. There are so many beautiful Carnegie buildings around. I'd love to sketch more.
At the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum.
"The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum is regarded as one of the earliest and most significant Second Empire Style country houses in the United States. Built by renowned financier and railroad tycoon LeGrand Lockwood from 1864-1868, the Mansion, with its unparalleled architecture and interiors, illustrates magnificently the beauty and splendor of the Victorian Era." * This is the main bldg of the downtown branch. I hadn't been inside here since high school*
I went to the Houston Public Library (downtown branch) after work today to do some research on the history of my neighborhood. Mangum Manor is officially 50 years old. In December 1954, the neighborhood's first residents, the Sullivans, moved in to 5019 Saxon. At the time, Donna Lynn (my current street) didn't even exist. It wouldn't be for another 15 years that what is now 290 would exist.
Alexander Calder's LE GUICHET (The Box Office) in front of the New York Public Library's Performing Arts Branch - it always looks like it's scuttling like some giant insect

This is a place you can always find ducks and geese.. and Flowers in season.. This is not the front of the building even tho it looks like it.. The front door is on the right side where the parking area is but I think this is a lot more beautiful... Happy Windows Wednesday, Everybody
Little Free Library. There are hundreds of these little library boxes across the country and around the world. This one is in Durham, we found it while out strolling through the streets taking photos together.
Boxes of a street open library appeared on boulevard trees. Free of charge books offer each and every passer by a unique opportunity not only to grab a book, but to follow it;s destiny as well. Most of the books are marked as books-crossing, some lack any signs of a previous owner. Anyway this fun way to find a new reading seems to be a new joy.
Etu-Töölössä sijaitseva entinen Kauppakorkeakoulun päärakennus on rakennettu funktionalistiseen tyyliin. Kuva on otettu pian rakennuksen valmistumisen jälkeen ennen kirjastomateriaalin sisäänmuutoa. Kuvassa on kirjaston asiakaspalvelupöytä, joka ei ole vielä lopullisella paikallaan.

Part of the library in Stowe House, Buckinghamshire. The library is still used by pupils at Stowe School so the books are not all as antiquated as in many old houses.
Foursquare is out of date: Harper Adams is a fully-fledged university.
Today the Hereios of the We’re Here! Group are visiting Libraries and Librarians, because Melvil Dewey, the man who invented the Dewey Decimal System, was born on 10 December 1851.
Very nearly complete - there's space enough for one more off-camera.... These are the Billy bookcases from IKEA. I can now assemble them in my sleep....

blown out shot of the opposite side of the library before we moved the couch and tiled in the fireplace surround. The statue is from "The Merchant of Venice" and is by John Rogers. The leather couch is a Montis piece found at a local antiques mall. It is Dutch and dates to the 1970's. Extremely lightweight and comfortable. The ladder was bought via eBay and needs to be secured as the children are proper house apes at this point.
For a book lover, this home library is a cozy place to enjoy your books and company. What a great place to enjoy the many adventures in books.

It wasn't just the artwork that caught my eye in the Rijksmuseum - the amazing library was a beautiful sight. I was really in my element - I love to see shelves of books and this is probably the most I've seen in one place!
The Cuypers Library is a research library in Amsterdam’s famous Rijksmuseum. It is the oldest and largest of its kind in the country and aesthetically astounding. However, despite the streams of tourists that flow through the museum, far too few seem to trickle into its remarkable reading room.
Thousands of books crowd the shelves of the largest art history library in the Netherlands, creating what resembles a wallpaper peppered with colorful bindings. Beams of sunlight spill through the windows, bathing the books in a soft glow. A spiral staircase curls in the corner like a metal ribbon, letting bibliophiles and art history buffs wind their way throughout the different levels.
The 19th-century library, which has recently been restored, has been collecting content since 1885. Its shelves are stocked with manuscripts bound to entice any art history lover. While browsing its extensive collection, you’ll come across books, journals, and periodicals, as well as catalogues about art auctions, exhibitions, trades, and collections. (From atlasobscura.com)
