The city library looks like it is need of serious repair. A beautiful but dilapidated old colonial building all boarded up.
Located in Washington, DC this is a marvelous place to visit if you are ever in the United States capital. A truly beautiful building.
The North Street building with its distinctive copper dome surmounted a bronze statue by Thomas Clapperton, entitled Literature, often referred to as Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom, opened in 1911. The architectural competition for the library's design took place in 1906 and was won by William B. Whitie. The Edwardian Baroque building is protected as a category B listed building.[2]

Library with yellow trim--a welcomed relief from common white trim. The home was built in 1930 at the edge of town on a dairy farm, and now it's centrally located in a high dollar area.

The beautiful Newberry Library building was designed by architect Henry Ives Cobb, and opened in 1893. It is located at 60 West Walton Street in Chicago.

Vuosaari is a suburb of Greater Helsinki, albeit quite a big one, so I wasn't expecting much. It's a really nice place though, with a cracking public library.
There were plenty of books (all too often absent these days), a great children's section, computers and internet access, DVD and Bluray for loan, and the thing that really caught my eye was a Roland CAMM-1 vinyl cutter. Not the sort of thing one normally finds in a branch library!
This is a place you can always find ducks and geese.. and Flowers in season.. This is not the front of the building even tho it looks like it.. The front door is on the right side where the parking area is but I think this is a lot more beautiful... Happy Windows Wednesday, Everybody

I went to the Houston Public Library (downtown branch) after work today to do some research on the history of my neighborhood. Mangum Manor is officially 50 years old. In December 1954, the neighborhood's first residents, the Sullivans, moved in to 5019 Saxon. At the time, Donna Lynn (my current street) didn't even exist. It wouldn't be for another 15 years that what is now 290 would exist.
September 12 - Library
This is part of the children's section of our little library here in St. Charles. I set out to take a picture in the 'grown ups' section, but the children's side is much more fun!
Boxes of a street open library appeared on boulevard trees. Free of charge books offer each and every passer by a unique opportunity not only to grab a book, but to follow it;s destiny as well. Most of the books are marked as books-crossing, some lack any signs of a previous owner. Anyway this fun way to find a new reading seems to be a new joy.
