This is a new project called Manchester's forgotten architecture. There is a disturbing revolution happening in Manchester. It is turning into a Londonesque skyline with Steel and Glass being the order of the day. Older buildings and yes, streets are being demolished to make way for this "progress." One developer actually said, " We are demolishing buildings that perhaps have local history, but not recognised as national importance. It is in Manchester's interest to let go of it's past and embrace it's future.
Here is a picture of Manchester Law Library, still fully stocked with papers dating back to 1820. The majority of the artifacts have now been moved to a new facility. It is worth noting that this building receives no public funding for its upkeep. All privately funded by its members.As for the future of this beautiful building? well, it is a Grade II listed building, but that has never stopped a determined developer.
Everton Library, sadly closed down and falling into disrepair. A really lovely building that should be saved and re-opened.
Visited today for the official opening ceremony of this refurbished and remodelled library.
Had to choose this corner for photo of the day - as it features the quote from Andrew Carnegie: A library outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people, it is a never failing spring in the desert.
Very nearly complete - there's space enough for one more off-camera.... These are the Billy bookcases from IKEA. I can now assemble them in my sleep....
I've updated my BlueBrick schematic track library to version 1.1 incorporating the following updates:

blown out shot of the opposite side of the library before we moved the couch and tiled in the fireplace surround. The statue is from "The Merchant of Venice" and is by John Rogers. The leather couch is a Montis piece found at a local antiques mall. It is Dutch and dates to the 1970's. Extremely lightweight and comfortable. The ladder was bought via eBay and needs to be secured as the children are proper house apes at this point.
On October 23, 2017, our group visited the Instituto Geografico Militare. This institute is a library in the grand European tradition of rich wood paneling, and immaculate bookcases. It’s purpose is to collect and catalog maps for the Italian military.
Because it is connected with the military, there is security. It is not like a public or academic library.
The room I photographed here is what I would call the reading room.

I'd heard that Snodland library had been refurbished - so popped in to take a look.
What a transformation since our last visit! Looks twice the size (a glass walled office has been removed) and is much lighter and brighter. No more tall dark shelves and lots of pale, or colourful, modern furniture.
In the Central Avenue library, Massapequa, three librarians are available to patrons as they work on the collection. More reference shelves and a computer room are in the far right. Periodicals and new books are behind the cameraman.

I reorganized, so I snapped a few new pictures. It looks dark because the flash showed just how badly the room needs painting (not while my stuff is in there!)
I took a little ride over to the new Hillsboro Oregon Library looking for color and ducks and geese and water and found all that and more...
It wasn't just the artwork that caught my eye in the Rijksmuseum - the amazing library was a beautiful sight. I was really in my element - I love to see shelves of books and this is probably the most I've seen in one place!
The Cuypers Library is a research library in Amsterdam’s famous Rijksmuseum. It is the oldest and largest of its kind in the country and aesthetically astounding. However, despite the streams of tourists that flow through the museum, far too few seem to trickle into its remarkable reading room.
Thousands of books crowd the shelves of the largest art history library in the Netherlands, creating what resembles a wallpaper peppered with colorful bindings. Beams of sunlight spill through the windows, bathing the books in a soft glow. A spiral staircase curls in the corner like a metal ribbon, letting bibliophiles and art history buffs wind their way throughout the different levels.
The 19th-century library, which has recently been restored, has been collecting content since 1885. Its shelves are stocked with manuscripts bound to entice any art history lover. While browsing its extensive collection, you’ll come across books, journals, and periodicals, as well as catalogues about art auctions, exhibitions, trades, and collections. (From atlasobscura.com)
I want the whole shelving unit to be filled with books and have a big comfy chair and good lighting to make it my own little library.
Main ground floor of the newly refurbished Sutton central library. Visited on the day it was officially reopened by the Mayor of Sutton.
This space was originally the council chamber, wit the library situated on the floors above. All that remains from that time are the shields which decorate the walls.
