Dover Air Force Base, Del. (Sept 20, 2011) – Working as Mortuary Affairs Specialist has never been easy. It’s a job that needs to be done with the highest level of dignity, honor and respect.
It is a job where all senses get sharpen, where everything stop for a moment and all kinds of thoughts go through your mind: your childhood memories, your old friends, even your dreams. That is when you realize that it could be you… No other experience in life can get you closer to life than death itself.
Then you start thinking of that fallen soldier, about his family, his friends and all of a sudden you realize that this is it, they will no longer have him physically and that is really when you have to do your best to immortalize his presence through his belongings.
That is what the soldiers for the 246th and the 311th Quartermaster companies (QM CO) have been doing for years. Their members, out of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, do the best possible job to bring to the fallen Soldier’s families their last memory and they made it last forever.
The Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations (AFMAO) at the Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary Affairs and the Joint Personal Effects Depot (JPED) are the two facilities that work directly and deal with the fallen soldiers remains and personal effects on Dover AFB.
The AFMAO mission is to fulfill the nation's sacred commitment of ensuring dignity, honor and respect to the fallen and care, service and support to their families. A solemn dignified transfer of remains is conducted upon arrival at Dover AFB, from the aircraft to a transfer vehicle to honor those who have given their lives in the service of the country. The vehicle then moves the fallen to the Port Mortuary at the Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary Affairs. Once positively identified, the fallen service members are prepared for transport to their final destination as determined by the family.
“This is a nice job, but it is a tough job also, mentally tough… you have to deal with dead bodies…the person in the body bag could be your friend, could be your brother, your cousin, or it could be one of your family [members], said Staff Sgt. Franklyn Seda, a member of the 311th QM CO with 22 years of service, who has been working here for the last three months.
Staff Sgt. Seda is part of the uniform team, one of the four teams integrated by 1st MSC Soldiers. This group of soldiers is in charge of putting together the last uniform, including ribbons, medals, badges, etc., that the fallen soldier will wear until his last stop. They make sure everything is wear according to military standards.
The other teams on this facility are family, case manager and driver teams, which are the ones responsible for coordination, the support, the transportation and movement of the family members of the fallen soldier.
On the other hand, Staff Sgt. Jeysha Alarcón, a 10 years veteran expressed: “I love what I’m doing…I think I make a difference… you are doing something for someone that gave his life for this Country”.
SSG Alarcón works with the case manager’s team. “We put everything to send these soldiers back to their families” she pointed out, meaning that they do their very best on this job.
Joint Personal Effects Depot (JPED), one of the facilities that our soldiers support, has the mission of receive, safeguard, inventory, store, process and determine final disposition of Personal Effects (PE) of deceased, injured or missing DoD personnel in support of current Overseas Contingency Operations.
“We take so much care of their personal effects, we have great people in here, including civilians… they make sure that everything get the most detail, the most care possible, so when the families opens that foot locker they see everything is folded, everything is nice, everything got taking care of, so they don’t think that the military is not taking care of soldiers even after they are dead”, said Capt. Efrain Irizarry, a member of the 246th QM CO who works as a Summary Court Martial Officer for the JPED.
Both, Col. Tom Joyce, AFMAO Commander and Lt. Col. Kelly Kyburz, JPED Commander, expressed their satisfaction of having the 1st MSC Soldiers working on their respective facilities. Lt. Col. Kyburz also informed her intent to keep employing 1st MSC soldiers and added that they are in need of more troops like the ones from the 246th and the 311th QM CO.

You know what? I just LOVE being at rooftop level in London - I really need to look for more places with views like this. This one shows the DLR in the distance running towards East India Dock. There's a lot of water between me and it, though you can't see it at all.

Having just crossed over the Hereward Trail, Adtranz 'Turbostar' unit 170 203 takes the switchback route across the 'Bedford Level' and on towards Manea and Peterborough on Saturday 26th January 2013. Two swans, rather conveniently, fly across towards the River Ouse.

Out for a spin with my Wife and we were caught by the gates at Elsenham, which presented me with good opportunity to take some quick photos with the mobile phone.
The Cross-Country Stansted to Birmingham service finally approaches the crossing. With that gone we were swiftly on our way.
Devils Tower is an igneous intrusion or laccolith located in the Black Hills near Hulett and Moorcroft in Crook County, Wyoming above the Belle Fourche River. It rises dramatically 1,267 feet above the surrounding terrain (the summit is 5,112 feet above sea level).

a level 5 alert fire is the highest level a fire can be gauged. a level 5 requires the assistance of all available firefighters to help control the situation. yesterday i came across this fire incident which was given this status as the conditions, high level winds, water shortage and very dry weather, induced the flames even further. this large fire razed through this community of urban informal settlers in metro manila scorching hundreds of houses that left hundreds of families homeless. firefighters were able to control the fire after 12 hours

So an old friend and I were on our way downtown to a club and her SUV broke down on the bridge. The tow truck came and picked up her SUV but pretty much said we were S.O.L. soooo we were standing on the side of the road at farkin midnight for almost 2hrs. waiting on someone to come and pick us up.FUN!

at that day
my W5 still had been making stains upon its jpgs with f 5.6
so,
I had to use my W5 by manual exposure with f 2.8.
but I shot my W5 with auto exposure - 1.3 EV and manual exposure with f 5.6.
W5 has a stamina buttery.
so,
when I used my W5 I did the shooting and deleting easily.
then my frivolities came up into my right thumb finger and forefinger naturally.
before I got to my Dai-koku Oo-hashi I had been doubting the data of my W5.
The sky could accept the shutter speed 1/250 or 1/500 with f 2.8.
but my W5 had been requesting to me the more slower shutter speed.
" ? Uuu ... m ... "
" 1/60 could be possible entirely now. "
" Why 1/30 ? "
" Why did you love to make them so dark ? "
I found its reason by this shot.
I had been using f 5.6 with a fault.

this tiny little fishing boat came up to my just below silently.
Up to this yonder of this left side has a mouth of the Tsulumi River ( Tsurumi )
and too much more more yonder was a throat of the Tokyo Bay.
I was just shooting upon the Yokohama Bay.

This was merely a tiny little fishing boat's jpg shot.
There were too much more more many persons who take pictures only by film loading type cameras.
They might say like this.
" I shoot film, "
" I only love to take pictures by film. "
" jpg ? oh, no ! "
" it's nonsense ! "

so,
if that jpg were the only picture of your baby's birth shot which was taken by somebody's plastic compact digital camera,
couldn't you accept this ?

I went to my mother's house today again.
and I watched " Tola san " with my mother tonight on NHK BS-11.
This afternoon my mother went to Hakone " Galasu-no-moli ( Venetian Glass Museum ) " with my sister.
They arranged to meet at my junction station.
and took Shin-kan sen at Shin-Yokohama station to Odawala.
and changed the train to Hakone To-zan Teshu-dou to Goula.
and used the bus to Hakone " Galasu-no-moli ".
They enjoyed whole this afternoon till this night.

Heatherdale Road Level Crossing at Mitcham In mid-2015 the State government announced its intention to proceed with the removal of the Heatherdale Road level crossing together with the rebuilding of Heatherdale station
On 2/23/2018, the Hype Hunchos ( a 7on7 football team) based out of Virginia, headed to Myrtle Beach for their 1st tournament of the 2018 season. The Next Level Greats Myrtle Beach Invitational 7V7 Tournament was held at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium. The Hype Hunchos came up a little short of winning the tournament but they played some amazing ball and left it all out there on the field. The team chemistry will only get better as the season goes on. The Hype Hunchos will be a great team for years to come.

Birmingham plans allotment rent rise as demand soars
Birmingham’s 6,000 allotment holders face a rise in rent to offset a £400,000 subsidy and raise money to improve facilities – as demand has soared to its highest level since the 1930s.
However, city leisure bosses believe the £24-a-year ‘peppercorn’ rent for each plot – about 46p a week, paid by each – is too low and they are under pressure to raise charges. The green-fingered tenants put in a total of £75,000 a year but the upkeep of 115 allotment sites costs the city £467,000, which parks bosses say is unsustainable. Some sites are in need of major investment with toilet blocks, fences and other facilities demanded by gardeners. With a city-wide waiting list of almost 1,000 people, allotments are more popular than they have been in 30 years due to the rise in greener lifestyles and the grow-your-own organic food culture attracting younger tenants. Plot sizes could also be cut to increase the supply, making them more manageable for novices, while grass verges and waste ground could also be cultivated. Secretary of the Birmingham and District Allotments Association Christine Brown said that tenants recognised the rent was very low but warned against removing the subsidy.
“These allotments are leisure facilities, like swimming pools, leisure centres, libraries and playing fields which are subsidised,” she said. “Allotments encourage people to be active and healthy. I understand these are peppercorn rents and will need to go up and that the council is trying to make savings everywhere. But I worry about the effect on older people. To them this could be a lot of money. Perhaps there should be a discount for those who have been there a long time.” Birmingham’s leisure scrutiny committee heard that allotments were more popular in some parts of the city, such as Moseley, Harborne and Sutton Coldfield which has a 200-strong waiting list, while there are vacancies in other places such as Hodge Hill. Aston and Ladywood have very few, if any, allotments. Committee chairman Coun John Alden (Cons, Harborne) said allotments were a key part of the city’s leisure services and it was encouraging that they were so popular. “We are told to find space to build thousands of extra homes, but we also need to create more allotments,” he said.
The committee heard that housing developers’ ‘section 106’ money, often allocated for parks and open spaces, could be used to create or improve allotments. Almost 1,000 people are on a city council waiting list to rent a patch of land where they can grow their own vegetables and fruit. Demand for the 7,000 plots the council owns is greatest in Moseley, Kings Heath, Billesley, Brandwood, Kings Norton and Bournville. But in the Yardley and Hodge Hill constituencies there are more than 200 vacant plots. At a cost of £440,000 to buy enough land for an average 80-plot allotment, the council admits there is a ‘non-existent’ chance of increasing supply.
One idea being considered is to halve larger plots, effectively splitting them in two. It was a solution that had worked well at Walsall Road Allotments, in Perry Barr, said allotment secretary Betty Farruggia.

The term 'allotment' still carries an element of condescension. "We will allot you this plot until we need the land for something else". Let's call these places city farms or small holdings. It may seem counter to sensible accounting to argue against raising the cost to gardeners of urban food growing but let's turn the current argument for being 'sensible' and 'realistic' on its head. Compare the 'cost' of maintaining and developing space for growing healthy food close to home (including private gardens), with the unsustainable costs to all of us of global agribusiness and the havoc it has wrought on our environment and health under the banner of 'cheap food". In those terms a case can be made for keeping rents on urban food growing spaces low as a wise investment in reforming the way we produce our food.
