The Cambrian Coast railway line from Machynlleth to Pwllheli bisects the town of Criccieth. Trains run at approximately two-hourly intervals. It has recently been re-signalled on the ERTMS system, meaning that there are no signalling staff anywhere West of Machynlleth. As part of the re-signalling, all the signage surrounding the level crossings has been updated. Being in Wales, all the signs are bilingual, with the Welsh wording coming first. Here are a few of the signs illustrated with the intention of helping any railway modellers to get it right.

Typical construction technique:

All base cabinets were constructed without an integral toe-kick. The toe-kick was constructed in the shop as a ladder-frame platform, installed and leveled and secured to the floor and framing, then toe-kick final material (1/2-inch thick hemlock) was applied to the ladder-frame, scribed to the floor and attached with glue and clamps, then the base cabinets are positioned and affixed to the ladder-frame base.

Wall cabinets were hung with meticulously leveled french cleats 8-10 inches from the ceiling and blocked out at the bottom to level vertically.

Cabinet boxes are constructed with 3/4" thick (nominal) prefinished ApplePly Plywood sides, top and bottom with 1/2" backs same material.

Joints of cabinet rims are butt-joints with 5mm domino for registration and strength, and Wurth Assy Plus 2.5" long wood screws and Titebond glue.

Backs are applied with 1.5" Wurth Assy Plus screws and glue, then trimmed to the box rim with template router.

Faceframes are constructed as complete frames with pocket screws on the back side at the butt joints, and glued to the box fronts using 4mm domino for registration, and clamped with Bessy K-body clamps.

Color code for the drawing:

Orange components are faceframes

Blue components are door and drawer fronts

Red components are hardware items, drawer slides, etc.

Our backyard was very hilly and it was impossible to do pretty much anything back there. So a friend of Lee's came over to level the yard.

Middleton Towers level crossing on the disused Swaffham branch from Kings Lynn. This stub serves a sand loading terminal. It's last passenger was HM The Queen who boarded the Royal Train here during 2015. The station survives remarkably intact to the right of the crossing.

A nice straight forced perspective shot, as long as the floor angle is correct, it can look much more convincing!!

On a clear day you can see Dungeness.

The sun is just about to make an appearance during a morning walk, the level crossing near the old Ames grain elevator showed no signs of activity.

Dundee United won to send St Mirren into the Scottish Championship's relegation play-off spot.

Thomas Mikkelsen fired United ahead as St Mirren players claimed for a foul but Gary Mackenzie headed the Buddies level before the break.

Tony Andreu struck a free-kick from inside the box for the Tangerines' second only for Josh Todd to equalise.

But Blair Spittal's late shot gave the hosts the victory they craved, leaving St Mirren two points off bottom.

Ray McKinnon's United, who remain third and are assured of a promotion play-off place, took the lead in controversial circumstances. Striker Mikkelsen went in with a high boot on Mackenzie but referee Craig Charleston waved play on and the Finn hammered the ball high into the roof of the visitors' goal.

Mackenzie had to receive treatment at the side of the pitch with the entire St Mirren bench, including manager Jack Ross, furious by the call from the officials.

Buddies captain Stephen McGinn had a half-chance for an equaliser with a header from a Lewis Morgan cross but there was little pace on the ball, which was gathered by Cammy Bell in the home goal.

Stevie Mallan was again showing the type of skills that has brought about interest from English clubs and was inches away with a free-kick that ended up in the Dundee United goal's side netting.

St Mirren continued to drive forward and deservedly equalised before the break. Mallan whipped in a free-kick at pace from the right-hand side that was met by the head of Mackenzie and Bell was beaten.

Simon Murray crashed a shot off the St Mirren crossbar from 25 yards and United then regained the lead in bizarre circumstances. Keeper Billy O'Brien picked up a pass-back inside his own box under pressure from Murray.

The free-kick was slipped to Andreu, who drilled through a ruck of defenders.

The visitors pushed more and more men forward looking for the equaliser and they were rewarded for their persistent pressure when substitute Todd hooked home from 12 yards out.

However, the home side took the lead for the third time in the final minute when Spittal hammered home from 20 yards.

It was a cruel end to the game for St Mirren, who have two games left to get out of relegation trouble.
