The sixth annual Southern Classic took place in the first weekend of December with over 300 bikes and sidecars on the track at Levels near Timaru in the South Island of New Zealand Run over two days of racing by CAMS (Classic Action Motorcycle Sport) and again sponsored by Mike Pero Real Estate the event was again held in good weather (though Friday practice was damp). This year the event ran without the delays that had affected the race schedule the previous year. A great spectacle with large fields or riders and good public attendance. Please enjoy the photos.
So lovely to see and hear Cranes on the Somerset Levels during the summer months. I normally stay well away from any potential breeding areas but I saw these two recently in a public area and there is no sign of a young one so tonight I thought that I would sit and watch them for a while. It was lovely to watch them picking off insects and calling to other Cranes nearby.
Both these cranes were born in 2013

Male "Bombus" (Yellow/Black/Yellow)
I saw this work being done on an electric transmission line the other day. Beats a ladder I guess! 12/07 PS: It was snowing when I took this photo.

Having been born and bred with the 25/35mph freight railway, I find it very awesome to see coal empties whizzing through at 70+. Still, I suppose there's no 'arm in it.

Unlike most of the shows Aaron Twitchen positively encouraged (non-flash) photography at his show "Curtain Twitchen" a curious mix of aerials and stand-up - or possibly hang-down rather stand-up. I thoroughly enjoyed the show.
