"Moody Rural Winter Scene - Fenceline Tree" by Patti Deters. The sun was barely able to peak through the grey and gloomy sky in this minimal winter country landscape that was photographed in northern Minnesota. The leafless tree stands in silhouette along a fence line almost covered with snow. Several textures and overlays have been applied for artistic effect and to add a bit of color and movement to this otherwise cold and dreary scene. Lately I've been wanting to use a zoom lens instead of my prime. I finally got an old lens out that I don't like. it did the job well enough. I can't capture the moon well with my prime or my phone camera.

At this moment a clearing in the clouds improved the conditions. The sky was blue and the late afternoon sunlight was golden. I got my photos in just before gray clouds took over again.

The Ludlowville Union School is left to the elements. We can monitor its decay since it isn't being torn down or rebuilt. It is most visible in winter, no leaves block the view.

I was looking back to my visit to Brooklyn toward the end of 2014. The leaves were off the trees and the sun's lower angle made scenes like this.

I didn't get to the earlier stages of sunset in time. The later part looked better and I was able to get the shot.

A large tree stands watch over a snowy scene outside of Monroe, Wisconsin.
This is one of those benefits of what I call "drive by shooting." Driving aimlessly along quite country roads can result in some rather spectacular scenes such as this one.

Some changes are slow like the trees, some are fast like the clouds and some are in the middle like the light of the day.
I didn't realize I could find so much color in winter at the park. It would look completely different today with ice and snow but I won't be going there. Its amazing how rapidly weather conditions change in New York State.

"Moody Rural Winter Scene - Harvest Moon" by Patti Deters. An orange harvest moon is seen rising over a rural winter landscape in northern Minnesota. The moody and desolate scene shows snow in the fields with leafless trees along a fence line just after dusk. Several textures and overlays have been applied for artistic effect and to convey the atmospheric weather of the season. The afternoon sky was colorful enough in its own right. It was amazing to see how the sunset was even better. I made it to a spot I knew would have a good view, and with not much time to spare.

A surprise late April nor'easter brought heavy, wet snow. It would be nice to get beyond wintry weather, but it sure makes for nice scenery.

A flock of Santarem Parakeets, with gray, white, and black plumage and striking yellow beaks, perch on the bare branches of a tree in the Encantada Forest near Santarém, deep in the Brazilian Amazon. The overcast sky and lush greenery in the background evoke a serene and mysterious mood, characteristic of the rainforest.
I wasn't expecting the sunset to be so dynamic. The timing was right so I had to get a photo of it.

A cold rain for the end of the year. It brought out a lot of color in the nearby fields.

A light coating of snow and ice made for slick roads. The fields and trees sure looked nice, though. These trees are at a nearby nature preserve.

A vibrant, abstract landscape features a tall house with many windows standing beside a leafless tree. Bright yellow and orange stripes stretch across the ground, with multi-colored leaves blowing across a swirling blue sky.
The clouds weren't very pronounced for this sunset. The location of the farm made for a good place for a photo, though.

"Moody Rural Winter Scene - Blizzard and Fenceline" by Patti Deters. Here is another piece in my 'Moody Rural Winter Scene' series. This one is also photographed in northern Minnesota, near Detroit Lakes. The frozen and gloomy landscape shows three trees hugging a fence line in a barren field during a blizzard. Though the weather is cold, bleak, and dreary this country scene has its own kind of minimalistic beauty. Several textures and overlays have been applied for artistic effect and to convey the moody atmosphere. Ludlowville Union school is a great abandoned site. Its so much more visible with the leaves off the trees. There's a rather haunting look to the place, I'd say.

Its great that I always have a good camera on me with the phone. I should have had my DSLR with me when out but I didn't feel up to bringing it.
