A wonderful view. Behind every layer in the landscape there are new things to see.

Beyond Layers: Frame It Lesson

Framed by adding on to the background layer using the crop tool--a technique that was new to me.

As driving by I noticed this particular rock that was layred and I turned around and pulled over to check it out. Luckly enough I found myself a big chunk of layered rocks. I noticed the strata of this sedimentary rock and wondered how long it must have taken to look this way. WIth the process of lithification it forms the rock and changes it. Not to mention erosion will take its toll on the rocks and the sediments that are compressed to eroide some faster than other parts of the rock.

Layers of the trees, rolling hills with green wheat, Blue Mountains and clouds--taken on a hike around Bennington Lake near Walla Walla, WA late last April.

Proof of concept experiment. I had this idea that I could paint or draw different elements on separate pieces of paper, scan them, and combine them on the iPad in separate layers. I’d have the look of analog and the editing capabilities of digital.
